The quartz movement explains the price. Personally I feel these should have been solar. Suits the field style and looks. The shadow effect of the fumé on the tan I find preferable, but really I've not warmed much to this and am generally not a quartz customer.
I'm typically not a big quartz fan either and particularly can't take a second tick. This mechaquartz has been unobjectionable for me though, as it's "enough" of a sweep. I do love the maintenance free solar/atomic G-Shocks and could definitely get behind solar (if it didn't tick). Cheers
Thanks for review 😊
My pleasure 🥂
These are awesome man, can’t wait to get mine! Great video 👍🏼
Definitely! Have you decided on which color you're getting?
@ Not yet, but I’m leaning towards the brown.
@SoCalWatchReviews Same here. Not as much contrast as the Black, but it's a great look and less common (though the Black fume and undertone is unique too).
@ 💯
I like it. Not crazy about the ends of the hands but that wouldn’t prevent me from buying it.
While I think it fits the design language pretty well, it's not one of my favorite elements either. I debated about mentioning a traditional pencil or syringe tip, but I wasn't sure how those would look. I'm sure there's something that could be well integrated though. Cheers
I really like the vintage vibes of this watch dial, its great to see something different that has been so well executed and finished. Personally I think this is great value and it's so refreshing to see a new microbrand watch that is genuinely affordable. Although slightly smaller, I still think it works well. Only gripe is the straps surface finish, which I think looks awful and degrades the style of the watch. The tan strap finish looks like tired cardboard, and there are no quick release spring bars either. Not a deal breaker, as the watch is very attractive, and I don't have any issues with the mechaquartz, a good compromise choice. Really great, lovely detailed review, Jonathan, thanks.
Thanks so much! I'll likely be swapping it to a canvas strap (once received) and leaning a bit more in the casual direction. These aren't my strap preference either even though they feel surprisingly pliable. In the end, like you said, it's not terrible having to make a swap on a reasonably priced and overall well done watch. Cheers
Very cool vintage looking pieces. Wish they come with automatic movement.
That may be something they explore in the future. They wanted to keep the initial offering as affordable as possible. As a side benefit, beyond the price, it resulted in a very thin package without sacrificing (a passable) sweep.
@@JonathanTReviews Yeah I like the affordability idea but even cheap Seiko nh35 could be a nice addition to already attractive watch. Cheers.
@Nudel-nc1cp Absolutely, that wouldn't likely add too much. The only problem is that NH movements are thick and would probably add at least 2mm to the case thickness. For me, that would detract from the design. If this one does well, maybe they'll do a follow-up with Miyota 9 series or similar (that would still likely add at least 1mm).
Very nice, I like the tan dial.
I think that's the direction I'm leaning too. Cheers
First! 😆
Welcome back Jon!
Haha! Thanks! It was nice taking a bit of a much needed holiday break 😊
@ You’re welcome! Having watched the video now, these are killer looking and is a very enticing value. I agree with you, I would not want this watch to get any thicker for an overkill water resistance. Lume is pretty important to me so I really hope the production units can have more dial lume to hopefully last with the hands. Both colors are awesome and I am sure will be a tough decision!
that black one is nice
The undertone and fumé set it off nicely without being too obvious.
Would be awesome to see these on a stainless steel bracelet, would be an absolute GADA then.
I'll never turn down a fitted bracelet option! So much easier to add straps than bracelets on your own.
Not sold on the strap style. They have that "pre-worn" feel that just seems silly to me. But I wouldn't mind seeing more of these "sweep quartz" movements, rather than the tick-tick-tick ones that are the norm!
I plan to swap the strap as well. Agreed, I can't do a traditional quartz unless it has no running second hand or a small second/subdial. This is a perfect compromise to still have dial movement and grab and go capability (plus a bargain price). It may not have the "life" of an automatic but it definitely has a place.
Overall, nice pieces. I would perhaps like to see a less 'retro-future' font for the brand and numerals.
Font choices can definitely be polarizing. I thought this one worked pretty well with the package. Cheers
You are absolutely right, it should sell for $135.
Very specific 😄
Looks nice. Still needs a bit of refinement.
In my opinion, that lollypop seconds hand looks out of place and does not match up gracefully with the rest of the design of the watch. It's very disruptive. Get that lollypop out of there.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Are you thinking no lume, a block instead of a circle, or something different? Cheers
@@JonathanTReviews It's not a dive watch. That watch doesn't need lume on the seconds hand. It doesn't need to be greater than 10bar either. Just remove the lollypop. The seconds hand, and watch, looks better without it. Actually, the drilled lugs don't make sense either and destroyed the profile of the case. They could add some styling into the crown; It needs it. Honestly, that Italian watch gives off a heavy AliExpress vibe.
Is this a field watch? Or more of a dress piece?
I personally put it in the dressy field watch category. IMO, it's too casual to be a "true" dress watch, but doesn't fully lean into the utilitarian styling of a field watch.
Why so small🤔
Sizing is always down to preference/perspective and wrist size. In my opinion, 39mm is pretty versatile and fits the style well. That said, I'm sure you won't be alone in preferring a larger option.
@JonathanTReviews 👍💁🇩🇪
Pricey for the VH movement and no bracelet.
I personally find it to be well priced for the finishing and specs. I don't disagree that there are cheaper watches though.
