ive been struggling with perspective for a while now but after analyzing this video quickly i was able to put it into practice for not just placing objects in environments but designing characters and such, everything in your videos is explained so clearly even when you're working hard at other things, thanks for that.
Your tutorials might actually be the difference for me to get into an art collage so I definitely enjoy watching these. You've taught me more fundamentals then my previous art teacher has in 3 years... And through all that time all I've ever been good at is copying. I felt like a copycat until i started to learn the fundamentals all over again. Thank you ^^
I imagine what's going on with your observations is that you are discovering 1, 2 and 3 point traditional perspective constructions are just a simplification of reality, we use them to create the illusion of perspective but none of them are exactly what we see with our eyes in nature. Objects rotated in different orientations to our POV can all have different VPs but they all need to be aware of the drawings COV. Curvilinear perspective will get you closer but it's a bear to construct.
i dont mean to be off topic but does anybody know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account? I stupidly lost my account password. I would love any help you can give me.
@Kevin Finnegan Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Sure, even the super loose sketch when taken into Photoshop can be easily refined into a finished piece. These types of sketches are my very first scribbles.
I was pointed to your tutorials by a professor in one of my figure drawing classes. Your videos have been a huge help when it comes to using my copic markers. I hope to be able to pick up your book when it is released.
Yes, I would study environments the same way but you need to add some compositional knowledge to improve your picture making ability. "Framed Ink" is a great book for that. Also look up some books on the subject from the landscape painting world. Improving your compositions will bring your design studies to life.
Well i just tried out a marker on a inkjet and it works fine but i think there is a bit of bleeding going on but definitely not as bad as i thought it was going to be. Safe to use for light use for sure but continual working might cause a bit of muddiness.
If you were to put another tower to the right of the biggest tower, using the 3rd VP, wouldn't it look odd? When you have 2 side VPs, how do you know which one to use to place things.. Do you have a reference for a good perspective book? For some reason I can't grasp more then the general idea of it. Thanks in advance! Sorry for posting a year after the video was made lol, I just found it. Wonderful btw :] can't wait to watch the rest!
"I get a little confused when another VP is added. I thought it was a one point perspective drawing :/" said Chris Riley. Was wondering what your answer to that is. In a one dimensional perspective can there be several vanishing points?
Chandrix Fonseka That's just a simplification for the fact that almost all of the objects in the scene use just the one vanishing point. You can have an infinite number of VPs in a scene depending on the inclination and orientation of the objects to the camera. Any object that is rotated or tilted will use a new set of VPs within the 1-point VP scene.
can we treat all the landscape scene starting as one point perspective? In this way your first vp will correspond to the cv and than all planes and object will vanish in two or one point perspective accordingly to their inclination, orientation and relation with the center of vision (1th point of vanish)? please correct me if I am wrong.
inkjet are for sure better in quality, but i think sometimes when you try to draw on top with a ballpoint pen it might have that glossy, really fine finish that is kind of annoying in that case..might have to do with the paper also though
Hey Scott, about how early in the process would sketches like this be for you? early thumbnail stages? would you ever take one of these sketches to a final design/painting?
Hi there, I was wondering where you get those nice light grey marker pens? Whenever I buy them they always end up being 10x darker than what is shown on the package. . Great video!
Hi scott thanks for another video, i forgot to ask on last weeks video does it matter how your line work is printed as in inkjet vs laser printed ? I heard that one of them does not like copic markers or is that old technology now?
@@scottrobertsondesign thank you so much scott, coz I struggled a lot when doing straight lines and ellipse.. kinda hard to draw when my hand resting on the pad..
i was more worried about the ink smearing from the printed line work but it seams fine to use with copics, The printer i used was an inkjet just an all in one made by HP. I guess they used better inks now so it's not as much as an issue as i thought it was.
Hey scott, I've been trying to figure out this perspective stuff and I've got 1, 2 and 3 point down, but is it possible to combine them? When I look at objects in real life they never perfectly line up like those imaginary scenarios the perspective books set up and was wondering if every object has their own perspective grid or if I'm just nutty. I appreciate your videos for taking the time out of your day to help us out :)
Hi Scott. Thanks so much for the tutorials you're giving us. They are of immense help. Your work is really inspirational. I am really looking forward to get your new book too. Hopefully there will be enough for everyone Have you got any clues of a releasing dates for it? Once again thanks so much. all the best : ) Felipe Izidro
Ahh... thanx for the info... love your Channel! Although I'm an artist myself & a graphic designer by profession, I always feel I 'm far... far behind & there's a lot of new stuff to learn each day, & your Channel is one of those places to do so! Excellent work & please do keep it up man! :D

Thank You Scott for Everything ❤️ 🙏
Sorry the focus looks a bit off this week, I think I zoomed in too far. Will fix it for next week, I think the message is still clear I hope.
Titan Books will be selling it in the UK so it will be on Amazon UK and at all the Forbidden Planet stores.
Thank you Scott! I am so grateful for these tutorials, I tune in every Friday and they are really informal, so thank you good sir!
Thank you @scoro5 for this foundation study. These little gems are a joy to craft. #postwork

Amazing how much better I understand the scale of the drawing just by adding humans!
Not sure. I printed last week's with a laser printer. Just give is a test and try it with an old marker you don't mind ruining if it goes poorly.

Ha, sorry. WEBRIL pad. They are the best, you can find them on Amazon.
Thanks for these tutorials Scott. Looking forward to buying your books.
Trying hard to have the book to press by mid June, which means it will be out mid September.
Thanks Scott, always a great help. Looking forward to reading your book when it comes out.
Thank you for being the Andrew Loomis of design Looking forward to the books

Nice work, I like to do finished paints directly over this stage for my comic to keep the energy.
Love what you're doing... Nice.
Ahh... Reminds me of your old Gnomon DVDs. Good stuff.

Amazing..thanks a lot for such a great tutorial! Inspiring.

Hi there,
I was wondering where you get those nice light grey marker pens? Whenever I buy them they always end up being 10x darker than what is shown on the package. .
Great video!
+stuart bunkell I use Copic markers. All of their values are pretty correct to what you would expect.

Great! Thank you so much , Scott!
the use of tracing paper. brilliant idea thnx!
The message is clear! =) It's like a thumbnail, right? Thanks for the tips man.
You are capable to draw perfect straight lines with no difficult! What’s your secret ? You use your shoulder or something ?
It still takes concentration, but yes draw from your shoulder.
@@scottrobertsondesign hey scott does your wrist and palm sitting/touch the pad when doing that perfect straight line? thanks
@@Markus0968 Not usually. Sometimes my pinky finger might touch, yes draw from your shoulder.

when the books will come out scott?? :D can't wait to buy those book and read it...
Hi sir !! very nice,I learned quite bit.I have a question,What pencil are you using? ty
I get a little confused when another VP is added. I thought it was a one point perspective drawing :/
You can add multiple vanishing point as many as you want as long as they are on the same horizon line.

thank you so much!! It's very helping me for drawing :D
damnit scott I can't wait to be half as good as you.
what kind of price range will this book be in? im in the UK so also wondering if the shipping will have an impact
Could you tell me what kind of marker you're using near the end of the video? Thank you.
Thanks!
What happened to Scott? Vaporized?
Thanks for the demo
Just curious.... is this video sped up in time lapse? If not, then your drawing speed is impeccably fast!! O.O"
Probably 3x.

I wish trad. art materials were a bit cheaper here in Oztralia.
Smudging with a weevil pad? A weeble pad? I'm a fast talker too, but I couldn't quite make out what you used to smudge with.
focus ?!
isn't anybody finding this first sketch out of focus?
thanks!
