Book Review - How To Draw (Scott Robertson) - 'How to Draw is for artists, architects and designers. It is useful to the novice, the student and the professional. You will learn how to draw any object or environment from your imagination, starting with the most basic perspective drawing skills'
I have the book as well. My understanding of perspective grew a lot in a month. Love the perspective tricks the book taught me. Though I will say this book is a more technical look on learning perspective. After learning the technical understanding of it, you can then start being more flexible with what you learned.
Does it have human's body prespective... like hands and other stuff???
@@vedicbhagat3884 No,it's only for human made hard surface objects like vehicles, bikes, planes etc.. But it's essential if you want to draw things accurate in perspective imo.
I had no idea Beerus was an artist or created things
Hi dear how can i get to purchase this book too i need it
Broooo it's sooo difficult to understand!!!!! 😩😩😩😩
I’ve been watching you for ages and I’ve got so much better at drawing 🙃
Awesome!
How do you draw small drawings into large one? I'm having trouble with it.
@@SauhardaBista wdym?
@@Meowa555 i was talking about proportions. Damn 1year ago and still no progress bless my life.

Watching from africa in zambia, your videos have reallly helped me out bro!
Don't be too down if this book doesn't make fully make sense to you. Not everyone draws uses this method however it will help you gain a better understanding. Keep drawing and learning
Scott Robertsons How To Draw and Render = phenomenal!!!! I swear by them both!!! Thanks, Dan!!!
Always put off perspective due to how daunting it felt but this book has been invaluable in solidifying the relevant ideas and techniques. The technicality of it may put some people off but for me it's what made perspective finally click.
Thanks for this vid. This book has been on my wishlist for a long time now. I have a few of his drawing tutorials from many years ago and have found them invaluable for complex perspective drawing.
you already have vids on the basics now i just need those books
(which i should probably watch those now)
watching you draw is soothing
Thank you for the last bit, I was definitely one of those people who thought this isn't for me since I'm not really into industrial design/architecture/things of that nature.
Eh i mean either way an artist should always be looking to do something new. Even if its the opposite of what you usually do, theres a bunch you can learn from it.
I have this book almost from my early steps in learn drawing. This is the "bible" of perspective, but I think
its not suitable for beginners and mite be a bit dangerous for someone that is only starting because he/she
would probably wont be able to duplicate (draw) the content of the book and this can
discourage and end up in quitting drawing altogether.
It can be super useful but only if you approach it with the mind set that its ok not to get even close to Scott's results.
Also the name is a bit misleading. Its more learn to draw in perspective then just a general "learn to draw" and the whole approach is very
engineering/architecture oriented - a lot of ruler usage and heavily using grids.
Saying all that I think it's an amazing book, a must have for any artist that want to develop his/hers perspective to perfection.
Also, Scott is a brilliant artist I follow his work everywhere I can :)
I just got the book, expecting it to help me learn how to draw as a VERY beginner, abstract-style, artist. It definitely seems like MEGA overkill honestly, and definitely geared more toward the architect/engineer. Thinking of returning it for a book that might be more fitting for someone pursuing the art lane of drawing. Things like shading for perspective/depth, form, anatomy, foreshortening, portraiture tips, etc. This doesn’t seem to be the right book for that. If you have any recommendations feel free to share
@@TheBlackJewelz For perspective "Perspective Made Easy" by Ernest Norling is an amazing short and easy to follow. One of my favorites for understanding and practicing
perspective. Its an old one but is a perfect balance between going in depth and easy to follow examples and explanations.
Its only about perspective so not really talking about lighting/shadowing etc.
You can "reverse engineer" from the examples that obviously have light.
Also its all black and white.. I love pen and ink, but if you are into color, its something to consider.
its a good choice to complement Scott's book
@@VeryBlueBot great, thanks!
Can you do a video on Michael Hampton Figure Drawing Design and Invention?
It's perfect for a begginer but i suggest starting out with the book in the video first because Micheal Hampton's book really uses perspective to break down the anatomy nevertheless it's really overall simple and easy to understand
@@naglaakhaled5259 yeah I see that now. I have how to draw and how to render by Scott Robertson. Very helpful. Thank you.
This books looks really advanced. Even though I have a pretty decent understanding of perspective I will most definitely pick this one up after I master human anatomy (which is also a mouthful).
2 years later and im guessing you still havent mastered human anatomy. That'd take you a couple decades to be one of the greats mate. Heres a lesson, if youre interested in something, bloody do it. Dont wait till youre "more comforteable" cuz chances are youll never be. Just dive.
I'm working to feel good about my self, keep positive and trying to get rid of the non loving attitude of my self and self doubt. It's a daily challenge, but I'm working on it. God bless.
I got both books and I like em.
It's a great book , I learned a lot from this book , but you can find more detail in formal linear perspective . something like measure point, 3 point perspective .
I have this book love it
What’s your take on Draw Like a Boss? Really love your style and the style of the artists of this book as well!
i love your videos always keep them coming they have helped me become an better artist thank you so much lots of appreciation from Canada ps, make more drawing timelapse drawing with commentary videos and an video about your art suplies
Thank you, Dan! I was wondering if you could use a pencil instead of a pen (but not erase). I find it easier to control line weight and prefer how the tool reacts with the paper. I noticed his book just indicates to not erase.
So this book it's like the bible of the perspective, looks very nitpicky to me I want to learn fast, lol but no shortcuts no shortcuts
this book is already a shortcut, everything is kept brief
@@user-yk1cw8im4h damn that's why I don't get it
@@misakistalker3058 you don’t make sense
@@user-yk1cw8im4h this is actually no “shortcut”... it’s just teaching you how to understand perspective
My current reading selection. Once I saw how you drew and this was the book that helped you, I ordered it right away (:
any updates bro? I'm planning to buy this book as well
@@____henry yeah, it's definitely well worth the read and knowledge but I will say it's a big book to digest and you have to use it along with a the SketchUp program for it too click
@@____henry buy its bro its a good book. I had just bought it yesterday in banes and nobles it $39.14 oh let me warn you if your buying it in banes and nobles, they would say its $43 but that a lie cause online its $35 so just say its say's online its $35 so they can decrease the prise. But i am warning you the book is hard to understand but not imposdible.
It's too mechanical, if it gets overwhelming at time, try skipping the section and moving on...later come back to the part and it gets better
Seems like the book for me. I’ll try to get this for my birthday. What’s the price?
You’re the best mate
I just got this book
So when we are looking straight and the surface is visually slanting upward to the horizon is it always roughly a 45 degree angle and why does it do that?
You should do a book review on how to render
does this book apply to digital artists too?
/ic/ was here (and probably wasn't practicing enough)
Naruhodo...
Where did you get your drawing ruler and triangle rulers at???
If I want to become concept artist I realy need ruller and geometry for drawing? Or its enought master drawing fundamentals and this is more like useful knowledge?
Ordering after the other book you recommended
What is the other book? I can’t see the video anymore
@@alomode1039 perspective made easy by Ernest R. Norling
i was looking throughout the video for it passed by fast
@@oscarman10001 honestly, just go watch some youtube video about perspective. When I've read the book I always companion it with youtube tutorials. Skillshare have a good variety of perspective drawing and if you're able to try Marshal Vandruff perspective course(it's not on skillshare). The book is kinda outdated so you might not understand some part of it which I struggle the most of. Not saying it's a bad book though but for me video tutorials are more suited to learn perspective because you can see it on real time and some uses 3D software to manipulate perspective.
@@ItachiUchiha-gf4fz awesome thanks for sharing all that I’m not really new to perspective, but I do wanna start over completely I took a bit of time off drawing and just wanna approach it as a beginner. I’ll try what you recommended for sure thanks again
@@oscarman10001 I'm not a master when it comes to perspective and right now I'm more focus on figure drawing but gonna get back from scratch as well when studying perspectives. There are tons of people already re-invisioned books tutorials into videos.
Long story short, videos is the way to go to learn because visuals are easy to understand but books will keep you in track of where to begin and end. So, if you've bought the H2D book search the part you need clarification. That's my tip when it comes to studying.
This was helpful
The width-lines on your back treads are off their mark, you got them following the running board rather than running parallel to it, match them to the darker ground-guideline behind the tires. If that makes sense.
Please tell me where you get your ideas from...

I'm afraid that other people who see/watch this vid will take advantage to get a pirated copy of the book, this is why I never mentioned to anyone where to get a solid foundation, I'm a big fan and true supporter of Scott, I hope anyone is aware of that. I really love Scott's teaching, and will support him forever, but how can we stop those bad people? I'm a poor guy, but I will do everything what I can to make enough money and pay for the contributions of the artist.
£54 on amazon.. an art book shouldn't cost that much.. unethically overpriced.
