Not to scare you, but I believe you’ll go back to wix when you realize Wordpress is full of it! 😂 I would like an update 4 months later. Do you still prefer Wordpress to wix?
Haha I think I just might! I plan on doing an update when I have it up and running. So far it's been frustrating but I think it's going to be worth it in the long run.....at least I sure hope so!

Thanks Lauren, diving into RUclips and getting in front of the camera has been a change, but a fun one for sure! Yes, I would 100% recommend making the change as soon as you can. I love my Wix site, the design, the edits, how user friendly it is from my end but I know that it's not the best option for the long term. I've done even more research and have learned a lot since I recorded this video and I'm even more of a supporter of starting with WordPress if you want to blog and grow it AT ALL. SEO, ads, organic growth, site speed, rich pins on Pinterest....all of them are limited with Wix. Best of luck on the transition my friend! -Steph
So glad I’m not the only one experiencing this, trying to monetize my blog on Wix has been an absolute headache and being so new to this I felt like I must be doing something wrong. I picked Wix because I liked the clean look and it got really great reviews, I had no idea all the hurdles I’d run into. I hope to move over to Wordpress soon but very nervous about starting the process all over.
You are definitely not alone. I'm grateful for Wix because it got me started but switching to WordPress has been even more complicated than I imagined I suppose it's just pat of the learning curve and journey. I definitely recommend switching to WordPress.org for long-term growth. I'm cheering you on in your journey. Let me know if I can help in any way!
Hello, you're a very good speaker and have good energy, I enjoyed watching your video. I'm a Wordpress person all the way because you own your site, Wordpress offers great SEO options even though Yoast is the best plugin for that, security, you can take spammers out of your comments and manage them easily, change the template is correct, you can make a membership site, store, blog, food blog where recipes get ranked on Google with the right food themes, and just anything you can think of you have a plugin or theme that can make it happen. Its easy to do once you learn the basics and go from there, just can't be afraid to start like you said, love learning and you can create yourself a job or career with any idea once you learn the building and marketing aspects of the internet.
YES!!! All of those reasons are exactly why I decided to switch. I loved the look of my Wix blog but when I found out I wasn't self-hosted and had limited SEO control.......I knew I had outgrown it. I expect it to continue to evolve and grow but it seems like Wordpress isn't going anywhere. I'm almost to the point where everything is switched over and I'lll be growing my Wordpress blog soon!
Yikes! I have an awesome Wixsite that my sister built for me but I want to start blogging and bringing more traffic to my site. I'm really hoping wix will still work for me as I don't have the tech skills to do it myself! Looking forward to watching more of your videos and seeing how he works out for you before I make the switch. New subscriber here x

very helpful video i started making a website with wix but then i had mixed feelings with wordpress as well now i realize i have to use wordpress for some sites that need more freedom and less limitation that wix has. Thank you.
You are not alone. I am having issues ranking on Google, too, after doing everything I need to do through the SEO tools in Wix. That is the main reason for switching over. Thanks for the insight!!
Thank you for this!!! I have wix and nothing is happening because of the SEO ranking. I am in the process of moving to bluehost and WordPress. Wix is easier and beautiful but you can make money.
Right on, I think that's the best move. for anyone wanting to make money blogging. WordPress is a headache to figure out, but it's worth it! Best of luck with your journey!
Thank you for the great video Steph. Did I hear you right that a Wix blog post cannot have Google Adsense? If so, that must have changed since you made this video, because it's definitely possible now. And other than Wix going out of business and just pulling every Wix site off the web in an instant (which I don't see ever occurring), if an individual feels it is worth it to pay for Wix hosting, why else would anyone care about "self-hosting"?
Soooooooo it's been a year. I feel like I had to start back at square one with WordPress and got really unmotivated. I couldn't dedicate the time and energy I wanted to, to figure it out. It's mostly an excuse, but also true. However, I watched some in depth RUclips videos, took notes, and just posted my first blog post on WordPress. I'm so darn excited and now that it's all set up, it feels like smooth sailing again! I'm not far enough in to have numbers to compare, but I feel the enthusiasm for blogging again, and that is perhaps the most important part!
Keep going, consistency & daily discipline is key & more important. Make a target like " I will write 100 blog post in particular time". If you are not good at following target time or you feel pressured then just tell yourself, I don't care how much time it takes but I'm going to complete 100 blog posts. Just suggestions, it is working for me as I also felt demotivated when I was not getting results that I wanted but then my mind is triggered to complete that 100 target that I set and don't care about results. Document and give points for the days you put in work ( I use Evernote) for this stuff. And Evernote is better to even write Blog and then you can copy and past in WordPress.
WordPress.com is a hosting site. It's like SiteGround or Host Gator or Bluehost, etc. WordPress.org is what you want to use if you're starting a blog. Hi! No, unfortunately, you can't switch themes and have everything transfer on Wix. It's one of the limitations and reasons I switched to WordPress. You can make micro changes but not entire themes. It's really frustrating and a whole lot of extra work.
I would love to know if anyone has seen a huge uplift in SEO through Wordpress VS their WIX site if they've had it for a while at least. I too have a Wix site, only 2 months old with about 33 posts and I really don't want to switch right now!
I don't have any official numbers, but am still convinced of WordPress. I was getting over 1,000 views on my Wix site but know it could be more from organic traffic. It seems like Wix will continue to get better but WordPress has it's set benefits. I do know I'm getting more traffic to my Wix site thanks to Pinterest. One lacking thing for me is not being able to include ads on each blog post as well as not being a self hosted platform. Changing it is a pain. Every single thing I've looked into says self hosted is key..... If you find out or have awesome traffic, I'd love to know more! After building a blog and website for more than a year, I'm still at on the switch!
Great Video! Thank you. ❤️ I have a question, do you think that wordpress is only good for blogging? I’m really confused because I have a whole business website about interior design on wix and I’m planning to add a blog page too. Do you think that it is better to create my business website from zero on wordpress or should I just create a separate website for interior design blogging on wordpress?
It all depends on what your goal is. If you want to grow mainly through blogging and the online world, I definitely recommend WordPress. If you need a placeholder for your in-person interior design business, Wix works and the blog aspect of Wix gives you credibility. WordPress is going to give you WAY more options, but the most important thing you can do is to be consistent. So if you have Wix now, you can always have someone help you switch to WordPress when the time is right. Switching to WordPress won't bring you short term success, but definitely better in the long run.
Unfortunately, I had to do it all manually. When I was researching it, there were 2 options: 1. Connect the RSS feed but I'd STILL have to transfer photos and other pages manually or 2. Hire someone to do it. It was a mess and a headache and I just wanted to go back to Wix and for things to be simple again. But I know that the switch was necessary for growth and the direction I want to take my blog. I hope that helps, maybe not the answer you were looking for but it's what I had to do. Best of luck, Steph
WordPress.org is definitely the way to go. It's not a waste of time or. money if you learned something from it! It's all part of the journey. The key is to not get frustrated, adapt as needed, and keep on going! Cheering you on, Steph

There's really no way around it, you'll have to transfer every post over. It's a pain for sure but be happy that you decided now instead of further down the road.
