Hearing Elliot impersonate xaden will never not be funny
"We rarely get to see characters who get together in the first book and then stay together"
That's one of the reasons I love The Sharring Knife Chronicals by Bujold. They do get married at the end of the the first book and the next three they remain married while tackling other things along with the fantasy world. Its wonferful
I find Murderbot so relatable. I too just want to be left alone to consume media.
Saaaame
Me too
And I also become annoyed and murderous when people interrupt my doing of this thing. 😂❤
Ah it's people out there on the streets, thanks and best regards from my basement.
The audiobooks of Murderbot are fantastic.
Kudos for reading Iron Flame. I find the hype that series gets infuriating, but admire your commitment to reading the new releases everyone is talking about!
I had no interest in reading Cold Hands of Ghosts but hearing you talk about it (and what didn’t work for you) actually made me more interested to pick it up. I love how you are able to talk about a book in that way.
Everything you said about Iron Flame is correct. So ridiculous. Fourth Wing and Iron Flame is my book version of “trash tv.” It’s so dumb and annoying at times, but it’s so fun! 😂 It’s like watching Real World vs. Road Rules Challenge.
Your makeup always looks so good
Love your channel. Your videos always makes me feel like I am chatting books with a friend ❤
I read Iron Flame, and at first the ending made me really want to get to the third book. But as time goes on, I feel manipulated and am less and less inclined to go on with the series. It was interesting to watch your take on it.
When I read the end of Iron Fkame, I Saud out loud "that's it, I'm done, I really tried" My husband was looking at me like WTH dud I do now? 😊 Yeah, it's been a few weeks and I'm over it.
You are so generous with Iron Flame 🤣... good for you making an effort to point out the good things about the book
Thank you for the video! Im super interested in the murder bot now!
“What about the dragons though?” I felt that way the entire time during both books 🙄😅
What a bummer! I LOVED the Warm Hands of Ghosts. I thought it was so atmospheric and emotional and it stirred my soul in a way that most books can't.
Have you read Radiance by Grace Draven?? You follow a couple forced into an arranged marriage and we follow their lives after they're married. It's so great highly recommend you check it out. It's a duology which their first book being more relationship focused and the second being more plot focused
I'm reading Radiance right now and really enjoying how positive and gentle the relationship building is written.
It is SO good. I honestly think Elliot would like it
Always a delight.
I felt the same way about System Collapse. But you explained why so well!
haha, i like how you described the book iron flame , because i’m the same way, so much cringe moments but in a good way i guess, just like a good time😅.
The music outro for your videos is the best! Can you play it on your violin? 😊
I think what bugged me about System Collapse was **spoilers ahead** the lack of Three. I really, really wanted to see how Murderbot would interact with another SecUnit. And there was a little bit of how they're similar and how they're different, especially towards the end, but the story just went in a very different direction from that.
It's one of those times when I applaud the author for taking the story in a creative direction but it's just not what I wanted or perhaps not how I wanted it.
Love MurderBot.
I'm with you on The Warm Hands of Ghosts. I really wanted to like it after the beautiful The Bear and the Nightingale. She noted on Goodreads that she really struggled with getting Ghosts to come together, and tbh, I still don't think she managed it.
Elliot, have you read The Aurelian Cycle? I'd love to know your thoughts on it!! It gave me everything Fourth Wing wasn't, lol.
It’s soooooo much better. A perfect trilogy
She has mentioned that "The Aurelian Cycle" is one of her favorite series. And has said it is better than Fourth Wing. 😁
System Collapse deals with so much mental health and depression that it was hard to focus reading it. But after two read throughs (arc and then tandem w/audio) it’s still a phenomenal book.
But Iron Flame? My gosh that was a choice to read 60% of it in one day. It was so exhausting! It needed some serious editing to bring it together faster. Like at least RY’s writing got better. But it was still very heavy handed with many plot points
after reading Fourth Wing I thought I would pick up iron flame even though I didn’t really like Fourth Wing that much. But by the time it was released, I just couldn’t bring myself to read it. I don’t know if all romantasy isn’t for me or just Rebecca Yarros, but I’m not in any hurry to find out. Warm Hands was one I was interested in so I may borrow it from my library sometime.
I really need to start the Murderbot series it sounds soooooo good.
I might listen to the Warm Hands of Ghosts on Libby. Secondly, love your shirt! 🙂
I’m in agreement that overuse of certain punctuation can turn me off from a book a little bit. Not enough to dnf. But I read Cassandra Clare’s Infernal Devices trilogy recently and the second book specifically had so many semicolons and em dashes that I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at them. I also joked in my review that it was like she was taking commas from the sentences that needed them and put them where they didn’t need to be lol. Idk it’s not the worst thing ever, but I feel like I have a good grasp on how to use various punctuation marks and seeing two semicolons in one sentence and a general over abundance of them doesn’t improve the reading experience for me.
There was another book I read last year from Melissa Marr’s Wicked Lovely series, I don’t remember which book I noticed this, but she would italicize so many words and it just felt so unnatural for the characters to emphasize those words and so often. It was rare to find a single page without at least one word in italics.
Same for me. I really liked When the Moon Hatched but I kept getting so frustrated at the amount. Of. These. Sentences. And overuse of ellipses constantly. Almost made me start to hate reading the book even though I liked the story.
Nice little Red Rising reference you put in. I've heard it's a good book and I think I'll check it out. I've also heard mixed things about Iron Flame as well. Some think it's mediocre. I even saw one booktuber who said it was one of the worse books she's ever read, but I'll let each reader be the judge of that.
As you say, Yeah, Murderbot! Wahoo! System Collapse wasn't my favorite either, but well... Murderbot, so...
I liked the first 400 or so pages of iron flame but now at 500 pages it’s beginning to feel like a slog. I didn’t mind the relationship stuff as much because I could read through it and get to what I was actually interested in.
Murderbot is the best.
I actually really loved Fourth Wing, but didn't care for Iron Flame. The dragons and the gryphons were fun, but I was so frustrated by the relationship issues. If they were going to fight the entire book, it could've at least been for reasons that didn't feel so petty.
Warm hands sounded like it would be so good 😢
Good video
I love Murderbot and have read them all. I tried Iron Flame but I DNF at 50%. I just could not take anymore of the annoying characters. I agree with your thoughts on this book 100%
Murderbot!
I had a very similar thought about Iron Flame. It’s not for me. And that’s fine.
Murderbot ♥
Felt the same about Iron Flame. Considered not continuing after Fourth Wing, but the dragons are great and I gave the series a chance. The humans are annoying and poorly developed, and I am done.
😊
Re: Warm Hands. I think she miscalculated by setting her nurses too far back from the front and making her soldiers deserters. So we’re situated in a wartime that’s frankly pretty opaque to lots of readers but we never see any of it firsthand. Like if the only thing we’re getting from the war setting is the atmosphere, I wish it had been a war that Arden’s existing readership is more familiar with, because this story depends too much on the reader knowing about this war she knows people aren’t fluent in. Also, if she’s going to write about Freddie/Winter the way she did, she needed to address homosexuality in the military in 1918, and she probably should have acknowledged the very big problems of Freddie being with an enlisted German with 1918 German values.
Ahahaha Iron Flame. Yeah. I dnfd at 70%. Couldn't stand Violet.
I'm getting Warm Hands in a book box and now I'm hoping I don't dislike it.
Just finished Warm Hands and yeah....the Devil went down to Georgia didn't work for me.
You look like a vato I love your shirt 🥰😘😍😘
What's a vato?
Vato? Please explain
Iron flame was bad. Completely insufferable and worse than the first book.
I like your reviews, but I really think you are way too apologetic when you don't like something. You immediately start throwing in caveats about why your opinion is wrong. Have the courage of your convictions! Lol.
Fourth Wing was probably the worst book I have ever read. Veiled as a fantasy book with fighting and dragon schools and is instead an actually awful romance novel. The reviews are binestly baffing haha!
Begging pleading for you to read grim dark
Begging for you to read a style you're not into
@@MichaelSmith-zx5lw Michael I like a lot of different styles. So does she. I would like her opinion on some grim dark. Is that too much for you, or will you white knight her some more?
