In and out of Key West for over 50yrs. Some of those homes are historical and cannot be torn down. The city has tried to keep it as original as possible but politics seems to play a role. Keep in mind in Key West the weather is everything ..
Wow. During the 80's while growing up in Cincinnati, we had friend who moved to Key West. Her Mom worked at McDonald's, but not sure where her Dad worked.
It's designed to make certain ppl with little, or no income to live in low poverty areas that look like crap & ppl with higher incomes live in better neighborhoods. However, I still don't understand even the ppl who doesn't really work able to afford living in 2,000 to 3,000 dollar condos because everybody's parents not making a lot of money & there must be some kind of other programs for college, or secret society clubs.
I had no idea as I have never been to the Keys. Orange Beach and Gulf Shores business struggle to find help despite the fact they offer 18 to 20 an hour. Still can’t afford to live there with those wages, which are only seasonal jobs by the way. No one is going to drive 30 to 50 miles through traffic each way for an extra few bucks. I won’t anyway, nothing to gain.
@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS yep, I am in Daphne and I 10 from Baldwin County to the other side of the bay in Mobile is a nightmare pretty much anytime and anyday and will be like this till Labor Day. That is mostly traffic to and from the beach
I expect it to look bad there, that is often the US' ground zero for alot of Hurricane landfalls, and the water is warmer there than anywhere in the US so Hurricanes are at their strongest there; those areas have taken a terrible beating, it has nothing to do with funding neglect or lack of infrastructure upkeep just bad natural disasters.
@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS It doesnt take bricks to do erosion damage overtime to superficial parts of buildings and structures, not sure if youre making jokes about my take; its quite legitimate.
Dude, get over the rich man mentality. I spent time growing up as a kid in that exact neighborhood in the 1960’s. That #1 is the Stock Island portion of Key West. We lost another trailer we lived in around the corner from that neighborhood in a hurricane. I went to every major school there. Even one near the Hemingway house first as an elementary, then turned to a Jr High and now is the School Board building. Even though it has changed in many ways, it is the diversity of people’s that make Key West, Key West. Leave the bigger city mentality behind. When you have people, you have problems. That don’t make it a hood. And yes, it has the feel of the tropics, surprise, it is the tropics.
@@alrey889 We were moored at the naval annex by the power station. There was a helocopter unit nearby and I did take a flight with them because of my torpedoman rate. They were trying to recruit me because the rate was in demand and I was about to get out. I got out anyway. I probably should have stayed in as it was a pretty good duity station.
Awe, don't worry about how bad everything looks in 20-30 years all that will be underwater. Exodus of people will soon begin and bargains galore. I was stationed there in the Navy in the early 70s it was great then but everything looks so much better when you're younger. 🦐🐚🏝️
The chickens running around everywhere all over the island are the best part of Key West🌴🐔🐓🌴
One of those shacks is probably around 500k+

Greetings from San Diego,CA Jose! Love your videos. Happy 4th everyone.
Thanks for the tour of your family estate.
I lived in kw just like this but I didn't consider it poor, back in the 80's many lived just like this before the big boys w/$$ attacked the island.

I am a Key West Realtor. You have exposed the ugly underbelly. True.
It's too far to commute.
I was stationed in Key West in the Navy in the mid sixties. It was a decent place to be back then. Now it just sucks.
Wow, I was stationed there in early 70s VF101 Grim Reapers Squadron.
VF101 Naval Air Station.

Hey Bro go get some of those Senior Citizens from more northern Florida and transplant them to Key West.
$1,200/mo. for the cheapest place. Sounds like Miami. Then again, there's Housing Assistance.
For real. It would be nice if the Resort let employees live there.
Most of the middle Keys are so expensive. As long as these poor folks stay off Duval Street everything good.
I can imagine how much it costs to live in a dump in Key West.
Hurricanes all the time?
So Not true.
Why have a car in Key West? It's like having one in Hoboken. There are also so-many untruths in this video.
Unpaved roads remind of New Orleans.
Oh no! Not in Paradise!
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Jose on life advise: at least i don't live in a cockroach infested trailer in Key West
I’m sorry but If you know every single corner in Stock Island It means you were Raised there to

Keys are for the rich!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jobs probably don't pay shit. Most well off ppl r most likely Retirees v& Remote workers.
Here they pay more than what they pay Miami that’s why people from Miami comes all the way here on buses to work
I bet 🪳 s & bedbugs r bad. I get Section 8 & am curious as to what kind of places I can find there in Key West.
