Kong and jaws were incredible, the closest you could get to being in the movies without actually being in the them, so glad I got to see all the attractions in the prime once in the mid 90s and once in the late 90s.

call me old fashion but I am an Animatronic girl who misses being scared to death by some life like monster. I hate how they are sitting us infront of screen ride now it only works if you add some elements of reality there like with star tours you have a 3cpo there making you feel like you are about to crash and hear the terror in his voice and movements.

Coreen Brooks-Huitt I totally agree with you. Though I do justify it in some areas, like if they have to have real actors from the films or have limited space (Mission: Breakout and Forbidden Journey), they need more physical effects. And even in those rides mentioned, they at least don't spend too long with the scenes, often transitioning into physical sets.

Yeah the Kongfrentation was amazing! The new Kong ride at Universal blows! Kong throws two dinosaurs at your bus and the tram barely moves. This 4d tech works well with the fast and furious ride but Kong us a complete waste of time. The whole ride I'm like ok, now it's going to get good. At one point you see Kongs head and the bus driver says oh no he looks mad, but that's it and you drive away and the ride ends! And it's only his head, they got lazy! The old Kong ride was one of the best rides of all time by far!

I could see universal making a new land for all of its original movies. You could have the different genres represent the different areas so a horror section with walking dead, psycho, and the shining or you could do a monster area with kong, jaws, and they could even do Godzilla if they could get the rights in their theme park. Another one could be a stunt area (cars and such) where you could put baby driver and blues brothers. I don’t know I just feel like they don’t use the properties they could acquire and their own for that matter, enough.

A ride taking elements of all of the closed attractions could be a hit, especially with nostalgia being such an increased positive presence in pop culture.
Something along the lines of Journey to Atlantis style (updated tech of course), where you board the delorean, encounter kong in some element, pass through E.T's world and have a run in with Jaws when in a water section. Insert any other classic Universal projects and i'm sure with up to date technology, it would be a hit

If I could bring back one ride I would choose Kong.
When I was growing up I would watch the original King kong movie a couple times a day. I absolutely loved King Kong. When I finally got a chance to go on the ride I was blown away. It was so impressive. The whole atmosphere was impressive. Even the que was creepy. Just an abandoned New York Street with shops. as much as I miss Jaws & Back to the Future. Kong is hands down the ride I miss the most.
I even remember a giant King Kong that you could take pictures with.

DJ118USMC - Yeah I think it's so stupid when they replace a *CLASSIC* like "King Kong", just to make way for some shitty flavor-of-the-week hit like "The Mummy" remake. When was the last time anyone's ever even mentioned that crappy movie (besides this video, of course).... it's not exactly holding up as a fine example of one of cinema's treasures .... Kong, on the other hand, is usually included in lists that name 100 of greatest movies ever made.

Jaws and Kong were my favourites. I went in 1997 and 1999 when the park was in its prime. Kong had an amazing atmosphere, the set design inside that huge building was incredible. It's a shame the new Kong ride isn't as special.

A ride that I would like to see return is Back to the Future. I've only been to Universal Studios Florida twice and unfortunately my first trip was in 2009. Two years after the ride's closing in Florida. The Simpsons Ride is alright, but Back to the Future looks really cool.

They could bring it back at some point. Maybe for a limited run or update it like Disney did with Star Tours. But it's highly unlikely since Universal is more focused on Nintendo and other projects. But never say never.

BTTF Ride was exactly like The Simpsons ride. they just changed the cars that you sit on and the film displayed on screen.
was lucky to ride E.T., Jaws , Kong and BTTF before being changed. the only one that i was terrified was on Jaws, damn shark popped right next to me in the dark section of the ride.

I honestly wish we could have Kongfrontation back. The ride was genius! I love the concept of basically meeting a famous movie monster up close just like in the film. The ride was truly ahead of it's time in so many ways and I never got to ride it. As a monster film fan, I would be overjoyed to ride this if it came back. With the new Legendary Godzilla series coming out, maybe we could have Kongfrontation-like ride with Godzilla.

Back in late 2013/early-mid 2014, i had a fascination with theme parks, such as universal studios and Disney world. I remember i got Minecraft and RCT3 around the same time and i was obsessed with playing the two games, and i remember recreating rides from both universal and Disneyland. It's so unfortunate that i never got to ride this incredible attraction as it has such an attention in detail and richness in practicality that is lacking in today's rides. This strangely brings back nostalgic memories of my obsession with theme park rides 7 yrs ago.

I'm feel sorry for you. I remember riding it when I was a kid and there was nothing like seeing a 15 foot shark jump out and land back in the lake only FIVE feet away. Yes, the shark was that close. This was so long ago I was taking pics of it with a Kodak camera that used these weird shaped film rolls. They looked like a pair of circles connected by a long thin strip. I was surprised that such a primitive camera could take such clear pictures even for the late 1980s.
PS: Can't believe I remember this: the ride opened by showing a fisherman sitting in his boat. Then it suddenly sinks and the shark fin starts swimming into the lake. It was scary. I can't imagine Universal getting away with putting the ride back up in today's world of snowflakes and permanently offended crazy people. They'll scream for it to be banned if it ever comes back.

I love E.T., but you're right, it's age is REALLY showing. Half the animatronics don't even function correctly or look close to falling apart. I think universal's really put in a corner with that one, as I imagine they can't justify a multi-million dollar update, but are hesitant replace such an iconic and beloved attraction...

    • @THEremiXFACTOR
      @THEremiXFACTOR 7 лет назад +23

Out of all the classic original attractions, E.T was the least popular. Universal tore down all the others (Jaws, BTTF, Kong, Earthquake) and the only one they are left with is E.T. It's a shame that almost nothing is left of that wonderful park from the 90s.

I agree with you on that!
I grew up going to Universal and out of all the classic rides Kongfrontation was the only that I didn't ride, because I was way too scared too!
On one the trips my brothers tried pressuring me into riding, then we found out it was shut down! I have mixed feelings, although I regret not riding the classic... I do enjoy the Skull Island remake!

When the Mummy ride opened in Hollywood, there was initially an E.T. Easter egg -- a couple of gold painted E.T. figurines in the treasure room. Word leaked on the local news and they were ordered removed. Back in the day, a rite of passage of sorts for the tech services "closers" (the techs who closed down the attractions at the end of the day), was to go for a ride in Kong's head. You could climb up through the torso and into the head, straddle a large junction box like a saddle, hang onto the steel framework and somebody else would start a show cycle. Lots of fun!

I can remember going to Universal Studios in Orlando just after it opened in 1990 and virtually none of the rides worked. I was lucky enough to experience the Kong ride a couple of times after visiting the studio several years in a row, but eventually our family gave up on the place since the majority of its attractions were out of commission most of the time.

Im so happy i got to see the Kong animatronic before it burnt down. Ive been on ET and Back to the Future and I loved both rides as a kid! Times change especially at universal updating all the time. Kong just felt so in your face with all this chaos around you like burning buildings and crashing helicopter! His breath even smelled like bananas!

I'd definitely want to see them revive Back to the Future The Ride. I found an HD version of the cockpit footage on RUclips and it brought back so many memories. Honestly they could re-market that old ride footage for VR.

To answer the question, I'd have Jaws return. That and I would like for them to make the Beetlejuice show in the Fear Factor stage. Just imagine the level of pyrotechnics, stage/set detail and newer musical numbers they could come up with in that much larger space. It'd also be perfect for Bill and Ted's Halloween show as well, because the set dressing would be minimal and relevant.

If I could bring back any one Universal ride it would definitely be the original Dueling Dragons. The theme of that ride as well as the coaster itself was just amazing.

I definitely would love King Kong back, Back to the Future ( the safety video at the start of the ride with the crash test dummies always made me laugh so much XD) and T2! The Transformers ride is just a black hole where you go to waste hours of waiting, with a lackluster end-result.

We were watching family home videos over this past holiday (2019) and my dad filmed Kongfrontation. I remember riding both the original and edited kongfrontation. It was an amazing ride; the heat from the fire was intense. I did notice the lack of fire in the edited version. The animatronics were pretty scary (I mean that in the best way possible). It was very sad when the ride was turned into The Mummy; it was seriously one of their best rides. I rode the original Mummy ride and I still think and thought that Kongfrontation was better. Btw if E.T. lasts for any longer, E.T. himself is just going to get up and walk away. The ride is waaaaaay beyond its years.

The old ride you rode on a real tram up in the air and Kong was full animatronic and would grab your cart and scare you. The new ride is just 3d screens that simulate movement, and almost no movement at that

In reference to E.T possibly ever closing, I'd say highly unlikely. The fact that the E.T animatronics at the start and end said your name, makes every trip feel special, no matter how old you are. I remember maybe '08 was the last time I was at Universal Florida. Rode E.T with my folks, almost lost a flip flop on the ride too. But the end there, even at like 17 years old, hearing E.T say my name still felt special 😂😅
