So I had this exact problem with the door handle mechanism breaking. Found a replacement part online & this video is the only video I’ve found that shows exactly how to pull the door apart. My driver door handle is now fixed and working, huge thanks for breaking the job down so well! I doubt I would have been able to do this job without seeing this video! Cheers!!
Thank you very much, removing that large panel to access the broken aluminium part was exactly the problem I had, so thank you for taking the time to explain it.
I’m not sure if I’m having the exact problem, door won’t open from the outside, and sometimes won’t Engage lock to stay closed when pulled closed from the outside. Going to try and troubleshoot it. Your video was very helpful seeing all the mechanics in the door. Keep up the good work, thank you for sharing🙏🏼
It seems to me that your problem is related to a rusted or bad cable that operates the door handle from the outside. The cable should be free to run/slide.
@@DamirUlovec had the exact same issue a year ago had bought a lock for it just in case but it was the cable. I used wd40 to free up the cable but the issue has come back
Excellent video, had already stripped out the door handle carrier when I found this video. I bought the aluminium part for under £8 and this video actually gives people a visual on the problem part.
Spent all god damn day taking the thing apart back together and even with all your guidance amd advice I still feel your pain I thank you for your kindness
Thanks very much for the video. I'm ordering parts now so wanted to ask is there only one bowden cable to replace or is there two? One for inside and one for the outside handle? Or one cable for both? Thank you, appreciate your help
@@drcoolautofix thanks, I have installed everything back with the help of your video! Im running into a problem though and have been looking everywhere but unable to find the right info, so hoping you can help me further. After installing a new door lock mechanism from another b6 the handle works however straight after unlocking the car, the door wont open from the outside, but once the car has been opened from the inside handle it will then open from the outside handle. Does the latch have to go in a certain way or is there any info that i need to know? Many thanks if you can give me any advice. Much appreciated.
Great vid got all inner skin off good outer door handle off got barrel out still cant get locking mechanism out pulling down on internal plastic clip trying to slide off and out but sod won't budge lol
Thank you Dr Cool - yes, a real bugger of a job!!! Why does every VW use a different lock/mechanism - so many variations! VW go out of their way to make things difficult for the VW DIY mechanic!
I really don't know why they did that but obviously they did it to sell parts just like other brands like Toyota Camry & Corolla not sharing parts same goes Honda accord & civic not sharing.
@@drcoolautofix Looks very dry and dusty where you are in the video - nothing worse if it starts to rain and you've stripped the car outside! Are you in Nigeria? Kenya? Car part prices are insane! Anyway, all the best, and don't worry about the haters/moaners! I've just finished the replacement of the door lock on my Passat CC - what a stinker of a job!
I do not understand full how U removed the metal part of the panel.. There’s 3 white plastic round grommets or something at the 11 o’clock position that U do not mention at all… I’ve removed the window etc & it doesn’t release.. I do not have that round plastic cover U mention at the 1 o’clock position
thank you for sharing, ignore the uneducated and keep doing the videos, very helpfull

Thank you. Do you need to reprogram the door lock module if you replaced the door latch to make it work again?
Some may need initialization to work but some don't.
Thank you!
Thaks for sharing your experience, it looks like I know why other garages are side stepping this job

Please what could cause all the rare doors not to work? Passat b6 (3c) the window and central Lock
Could be fuse or problem from body control module
