The NOVICE UNIT is about learning how to use S3 to write music using only a small number of essential controls. You won't need to dive deep into the instrument's engine to get a great result.

I do pop punk music and this series works so well that it changed me from a poser to a really confident poser
I've been using Shreddage since version 1, and each version keeps getting better and better. I do hybrid rock and people can never believe that I am not a guitarist.
When I saw a targeted Facebook ad for this guitar software, I was very sceptical about how something based in MIDI would handle all of the expressive techniques and complex sounds of a guitar. I've gotta say that this video series has floored me. As soon as I get my DAW set up again, I'm definitely buying it.
Sreddage 3 Stratus is free.
this is much better than reading the manual that comes with the guitar ... yay !!!
I've spent last 15 years with guitar and got enough of dealing with shit.
Just switched to a vst and things come out buttery smooth and especially with Hydra the processed sound is exactly what Im after.
I have a PRS Custom 24 but my next purchase is going to be the Serpent. That way I can score stuff on the go.
I need some strum presets, this stuff is hard. Lol
it sounds so good on the video ... but when trying on my own ... oh geez, what went wrong ? LOL
Lol, right!?
Lol I don't know who disliked this, this guys make epic instruments. I assume competition disliked this, that only makes sense.
Epic video btw 😎
I would love to see you guys use "jazzy" chords since this guitar sounds epic on that kind of chord progression.
Uuuuh. Is this series still going to continue?? It was actually godlike tbh
Yes, we're working on it!
I love this series. Great value. But episode numbering seems to be mixed up:
3.2 is actually 2.2, and there's no Ep.3 !!
Love the intro. Wish I could see how that is accomplished.
Check out this video! We'll show you. ruclips.net/video/PvQ56IUu8Bg/видео.html
Great music👍
Any chance of a video on Abyss? I know it's probably not what it's meant for, but i'm having some trouble programming realistic sounding funk bass lines and i'd love a video going in depth into programming the bass.
Bruh abyss is horrible for funk bass
Great tutorial! Are you going to include mixing/mastering tips for Shreddage 3 in your tutorials?
Good idea!
@@ImpactSoundworksLLC please xD
HELP: can someone tell me which presets to use for eighties dreamy pady chorussy sounds? thanks so much people!
Hey. I loved it. For curiosity, what DAW are you using in the tutorials?
Ur mum
Looks like Logic Pro.
Amazing tutorial, as always! Are you guys planning an Intermediate or Advanced Shreddage User series as well? If not, would it be possible to get access to some MIDI files to study more advanced articulation switches and phrasings? Thank you!
Yes, more advanced videos will be coming after we wrap up the Novice module :-) All videos (past + future) include MIDIs used.
@@ImpactSoundworksLLC Guys it's been 11 months, can you let us know when more of these videos will be released? It's complicated software and we need your help to use it to its full potential! PLEASE!
@@djwackfriz I know this is a 6 month old comment but I too would love to see more of these!
@@mikegrech5832 rest in peace shreddage 3 masterclass i guess
@@HACKYOfficial Right? Not like some of us needed a deep, in-depth rundown of the TACT tab before spending a week trying to figure it out on our own or anything. Who needs those intermediate or advance videos? Not me....
Very instructive videos. Yet, it is not clear to me how to import the Hyper Universe Clean preset into my Shreddage Stratus library. Any explanation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
How are you creating the choke sound at the end of the notes? I don't think I get those by default.
Should support strum patterns then Shreddage will become invincible!
Hi, i would like to create some guitar funky ritmic parts, with chokes etc.. i dont know if is better to use strumming mode or poly mode, thanks a lot!
Is there going to be any non-novice ones? I presume not. These have been incredibly helpful, though. Thank you so much for doing this! If I could suggest a change to the manual: there should be a specific mention that the sampled vibrato modes will double your instrument until 0 and 100% values are reached. It took me two days to track down what was happening until I noticed that your vibratos always went from 0 to 100. I used to use Shreddage 2 and intermediate values would change the vibrato depth so I was missing the key detail that real ones it's just a mix knob.
More S3 tutorials is our biggest customer request so we're working on more, for sure. Regarding vibrato, I think we're going to change this behavior in a future update so that modwheel functions more as a quick xfade switch between non-vibrato samples and full vibrato. Of course in Emulated mode it will be a smooth 0-100% transition.
Sorry for my impatience but it's been a few months since the last episode and I wonder what it takes for so long? I am really looking forward to new tutorials!
We have had our hands full with a variety of different projects, including the upcoming Shreddage 3 Hydra, but we're hoping to release another episode this month or early Feb!
@@ImpactSoundworksLLC Okay, thank you for the answer!
hmm...how come the notes are coloured in piano roll in the vid? is this possible in FL studio? I'm all new to this so excuse me if this is a stupid question... :D
The DAW being used here is not FL Studio, I believe it's StudioOne.
The DAW used here is LogicProX. The different colours indicate different velocities, I would assume FL studio has some sort of system for indicating note velocities as well.
I can't seem to download the example MIDI files from any of the tutorials. You have a comment below saying you fixed this a few days ago, but still nothing when I try. I hope this can be sorted.
@3:29 - what's the purpose of the D#1 on the fifth chord?? This is the keyswitch for Repeat Note...
There is currently an update on the Shreddage 3 instruments and I need some help with that...On "My Account" on your website it is stated that "To get the update, simply go to your Downloads page and re-download the "Instruments Data RAR" file for your instrument. You can then overwrite the old files (NKI, NKC, snapshots, etc.) with the new ones"...Fine, I downloaded that RAR file, but I see that it includes the SAME folder names that are installed on my PC (Documentation, Instruments, Samples,Snapshots)..Is it going to overwrite everything? I don't want to overwrite the MAIN SAMPLES by accident, I am not taking any chances here!! Any suggestions? Some months ago I saw a video with instructions on how to update an Impact Soundworks instrument but unfortunately I can't find it anymore.
Has anyone went home, put this thing in, downloaded the midi and given it to a novice to test the results? How about an A/B basic comparison of out of the box stratus and your video? The key switches are trashed and it sounds NOTHING like the video. After about 4 hours of tinkering with EQ, cabinets, velocity curves, screamer, sustain and mute conflicts, more EQ and then it's usable but not right. Switch to a different preset and it's back to the drawing board. Where in stratus is preset S3 EP3 stratus 1 featured in the video. I own stratus but not the beautiful preset. I'm serious. How about a video explaining exactly how the slide functions. Cool when you figure it out. How about velocities and pick strength. Wonderful tech, powerful features and total confusion with the presets. Loaded Archtop and only spent 3 minutes adjusting the mute/ sustain. Sounds excellent and is the favorite. And i think this is what was used in your video, not the stratus. Check it out.
I can't find the muted strum and choke strum control. If anyone could help, I would be appreciated
.
I am using Stratus
To be honest ... I have a problem that I don't really understand the Jupiters tuning. I have to program a guitar part according to our guitarists voicings. the guitar is tuned EBGDAEH and I want the Jupiter to play a E min add9 not strummed and with the G2 and the E3 played on open G and E strings to ring on. But I don't get what I see on the interface of the Jupiter. When I select the "moving lead" fretting mode, it starts correct on the 7th fret but looks like a 4th higher ... I don't know how to force the guitar to use opens strings whenI want to use open strings ... no idea! It would be helpful if there was an option to "tune" the guitar in order to get a correct visual feedback of what's going on ... maybe I didn't get your idea ... Regards CZ
If you want to forcibly assign the guitar to use specific strings, you can use the string selection keyswitches.
at 5:46, you're having to lay the chords down before actually strumming. Why did you guys not just make a chord selector aspect in "strumming mode?" I may be missing something, but it seems like that would be way more intuitive. I have Stratus and Archtop. I would love a more intuitive way to "strum chords" rather than using both hands to play a full chord across the bridge, THEN going back to build the strumming rhythm. *edit* The instruments sound beautiful. This is just a feature that I thought was missing and creating a big hole in the otherwise amazing product.
Say you're on a midi keyboard, you use your left hand + any needed from right to hold the chord, then use your right outer fingers to play the strums
Would be really useful except the TACT keyswitch defaults don't match the examples or demo files..
You can adjust the TACT presets to match what's on screen fairly easily, and then resave the NKI so you never have to do it again.
What about arpeggiated chords? This is great if they are strummed concurrently, but if you're quickly going up or down the notes of a chord, the guitar gets quiet suddenly.
You can adjust how strum mode dynamics work on the strumming page (CC vs velocity)
@@zirconst , so what value do I put in to make sure that all the notes of the chord are the same volume? The lover notes are loud, but the higher ones are really soft. I played around with the CC value (they have them defaulted at 2, 7, 1). As a workaround, I have multiple guitars play individual notes, staggered.
zirconst I don't see the keyboard with the highlited keys anywhere, so I don't know what keys are in the playable range etc. Do you possibly happen to know how to fix that?
Press F3 to enable the Kontakt keyboard. Then on the left side of it, there's the pitch bend and mod wheel slides, and to the left of *that* are two little arrows with a number in the middle. Press the up or down arrows to shift the viewable range.
... and these are novice units? Jeez!
Hi guys, while trying to play the ambient world or any clean presets set im getting this message "script warning( Line:3706, script:0) set_engine_par(): Negative parameters are not allowed"
this message appear in the bottom left of the kontakt windows and the notes that shows it sound very low volume and not clean.
¿Do you have any idea what could be going wrong and how to fix it?
Which instrument are you using, and when was it last updated/installed? Feel free to send us an email directly - support@impactsoundworks.com !
Can I use this on iOS
Oh my god which one do I buy? Shreddage 3 or this stratus?
Shreddage 3 is the engine they're using. Stratus is the model being used in the engine.
OK so I create a nice riff etc. But how the fuck do I actually use it in e.g. FL Studio?
Where can I find the snapshot or preset s3 ep3 stratus 3? It’s the one he uses in this video but it’s not in my stratus
Click the "Download MIDIs from this video" in the video description, that includes other materials as well.
Is it possible to slide with power chord on?
You can only do this with Stratus and Jupiter (as of Feb 2020). Just use powerchord sustains and trigger portamento using whatever keyswitch or velocity range you've set up in TACT.
Is there an any option to make scale of library interface smaller? on my resolution always need to make scrools in kontakt
Kontakt unfortunately does not have a scalable UI.
@@zirconst thank you for reply! Andrew, i hope sometime your products such as stratus, will have a change tuning feature! Btw any plans to do separate standalone app for your products?
What DAW is used in this video? Thanks!
Studio One!
is there a way of getting Octave power chords to work, I cant wrap my head around it, it just ends up playing in the 12-24 fret range, even with hand position on
If you're playing the notes simultaneously, then try increasing the Poly Input window to ~10-15ms. That should give the script enough time to voice them exactly right.
@@ImpactSoundworksLLC Fantastic, thank you so much. I assume Strum on poly must be on also? and can that be turned on and off via articulation? I'm really getting into this and what to master it :) Sounds amazing though, really awesome product
@@Riffa22 You don't need to use strum on poly input (it's optional). You can automate Strum on Poly Input via MIDI CC or host automation too.
@@ImpactSoundworksLLC oh ok, so a quantised chord will work just as it is with 15ms latency? No need for strum mode or strum on poly, just articulate and automate to taste then?
Any other useful tips on strumming parts that aren't already in the video? Also are you planing to do more masterclass videos?
@@Riffa22 Yes we will have more videos, stay tuned. And yeah, you don't need strum mode, it's simply an alternate method of working!
How i can chose other midi input? There is no have menu
Tap the (i) icon far to the right of the instrument name, that shows in the selectable MIDI input.
zirconst oooo thanks God!! I will pray for you!!
The Midi-Files for Download are empty. :-(
Try downloading again, we've fixed it!
@@ImpactSoundworksLLC The Midi-Files are still missed.... the link doesn't open.
Hey, I own shreddage 3 Serpent and I was attempting to use your midi to practice with the strumming engine.
However when I turn the strumming engine on, nothing plays.
Am I missing a step?
If you watch this video starting at 3:53 you'll see exactly how it works :-) When Strumming mode is on, you input chords in the playable range, then press the strumming keys in the upper range to do up/down strums etc.
@@zirconst Thanks!
@@zirconst I don't see the keyboard with the highlited keys anywhere, so I don't know what keys are in the playable range etc. Do you possibly happen to know how to fix that?
Videos that show how good it sounds without telling me how to replicate those sounds on my computer are pointless. The manual is almost useless in that respect. I just can't make my Stratus 3 sound like that. Can someone make a tutorial video demonstrating some cool sounds and then show how it's done, without leaving out any details? For example, how do I replicate the sound at 1:03? No matter what adjustments I make in my DAW the end result sounds extremely blah.
The purpose of the video is, step by step, to show you exactly how to get this sound. We even included MIDIs and snapshots in the video description. What additional information are you looking for?
@@zirconst Thanks for replying Zirconst. There is no mention of settings as far as I can tell. Am I missing something in how I'm importing the MIDIS? All I get when I drag the MIDI to the Studio One 5 track are the notes which sound just as bad as when I put them in myself. Somehow, there are no other settings that are imported when I do that. So, what are the settings for what I hear at 1:03? If I can replicate that sound then I'll become a believer and might decide to buy the commercial version (using the free version right now). Perhaps if the actual "song" format from Studio One, not just a MIDI file, were made available, it would help.
Perhaps the problem is that you made your video with the commercial version of Stratus and I'm using the free version.
