I remember Jake's breakout year in 2015 and thinking this is the most fun I've had watching a pitcher since Lincecum came on the scene and won the two cy youngs in a row.
As an Orioles fan, I'm glad Arrieta found success. The Os player development, especially for pitching, was absolutely dreadful during the 2010s. Another pivotal change the cubs made was allowing Arrieta to throw a cutter, as the Os banned their prospects from throwing cutters during this time, if I remember correctly.

Trust me. Jake Arrietta is nowhere close to being a forgotten name in Pirates fans minds. His 2015 season was the most dominance Ive personally seen from a pitcher, and if it were not for him, the pirates had a team that was capable of winning a world series. Zero doubt

I’ll be honest I remember not buying into the Arrieta hype at first because of a few reasons A) his stint in Baltimore he wasn’t that good, B) he was a cub (I’m a Brewers fan) but he had a solid career and I think since I teach a sports psychology class and we’re on a chapter of mental toughness (just finished the chapter on anxiety in sports) I will use this video for one of my lessons in the next couple days. Jake's career was a bit like Sandy Koufax's: years of mediocrity followed by a period of absolute dominance. The difference is that Koufax retired on top.

Bit of a stretch calling a dude a superstar who's peak was under 2 full seasons long. And he only got the Cy in '15 because of timing - for all intents and purposes, Greinke had a better body of work and deserved it more. If anything, Arrieta was a flash in the pan.

This wasn't just a great season, it was one of the all time great seasons. in 28 of his 33 starts he got a decision. in his 5 no decisions the Cubs were 3-2. Ill give the basic lines for those 5 ND. 6 IP 7 H 6 R 3 ER 2 BB 7 k Cubs bear Ariz 9-6. 7 Ip 8 H 4 R 4 ER 0 BB 5 K Cubs lose to KC 8-4 7 IP 3 H 1 R 1 ER 2 BB 7 k. Cubs lose to STL 3-2 6 IP 5 H 2 R 2 ER 3 BB 6 K Cubs beat Brewers 5-2 8 IP 6 H 2 r 1 ER 1 BB 5 K Cubs beat Pit 3-2 He started the season 11-6. After his 6th loss he started 13 more games that year. his team went 13-0 in those starts. areieta was 11-0 and gave up 9 runs only 6 being earned runs walking 17 and striking out 95. His Era during this stretch. 0.57 ! Crazy.
@@3-0Greenlight Such a strange career. from pretty basically really bad with the Orioles to legendary run with the Cubs. his last season the first time around was not all that bad. he had a 3.53 ERA IN 2017. He wasn't horrible as a Philly but he wasn't good either. But wow did he implode when he came back to Chicago and completed the implosion with the Padres. He did manage to keep his career ERA under 4 though. lol I still haven't watched this video. I guess I better. People never talk about his postseason successes much. He won 2 games in the 16 world series and that 2015 WC complete game dominant performance over the pirates was so good it had Sean Rodriguez boxing with a Gatorade cooler.
