      It was a good conference that was easy to love until the entitled 3 left for the Big 12. Hard to be excited about the in-conference games for this upcoming season... Tulane, Memphis, SMU and Navy are the only teams with any prestige left in the conference, although I'm biased and include Tulsa in that mix.

    SMU has great history back in the day also a good location. It would benefit the acc and pac 12 to align and add SMU. This will be a national conference explanding the acc network national doubling the acc network subscriptions. Also pac need to sell game to prime, ion, cw and already have apple. Each team 1 trip across the country play a Saturday and Thursday game a year would equal 4 games against the other conference. oth acc and pac need to act fast.

    The deal with escalator option viability seems questionable, some estimates based of MLS package price on Apple TV+, even if every household in the US got a subscription would still be implausible could generate enough revenue to match the Big 12 media deal.

    There will be 3 super conferences but room for G5 school(s) to reach CFP. Mustangs have better chance in AAC than if they join super conference.
    When / if SMU draws 40k fans at home games, they’ll get promoted. But they are better off in AAC for now.

The future for SMU is bright. i could see them one day go SEC or big 12. The big 12 is safe for a while, but what is happening to Pac could happen to big 12. The big 12 was smart, expanding, and getting a tv contract before pac.

    I’ve been saying this since people thought that this was the only and best move, No it’s not. Why was our fanbase acting like this was a lifeboat worth trying to get in but it turned out we were trying to hop aboard the Titanic. This conference was on death’s door the minute Kliavkoff and the PAC decided not to go after the Big 12 when blood was in the water. It is the PAC 12 and their high academic standards that have done them in, I’m sorry this is a sports conference not academics. Sure that used to be a big deal in these things back in the day but those standard requirements should be dead as now sports at least the ones that are important are all about money. I find it tragic that we’ve done almost all we can yet we’re going to be most likely stuck due to the incompetence of another conference’s administration not ours. The only reason the Big 12 has never been super interested in us is not because of the market overlap or the lack of major wins in the last decade, but because TT, T*U, and Baylor are all scared shitless of SMU genuinely returning to the pony express days but this time it would be all above board and there is no longer the ability to whine to NCAA to kill us again.

    • @dgart7434
      @dgart7434 Год назад

      The final death blow was when the Big 12 opted to extend their contract early and took the TV deal from ESPN and Fox that the PAC in their arrogance turned down. It just took them a year to realize it.

    As a Tulsa fan, I can say for both schools: the new AAC's constituency is watered down and banal. Charlotte? ECU, Temple, UAB? Rice? SMU is years ahead of those programs. SMU has consistently made TCU dump their shorts for the past 10 years in exciting fashion. Sucks that college football will have a group of "haves" and "have nots" and there's nothing that can be done about it. SMU is merely one of the nicest looking horses in the glue factory that is the AAC / G of 5.

    I feel horrible for SMooo. They are finally getting their chance at the big-time again....and the conference is falling apart. Dang it! The Pac leadership is unbelievable. They totally shot themselves in the foot with their lack of urgency and short term greed vs's longterm stability. The Pac should have added SDSU about 4 years ago and done like the Big10 when they added Penn St and went with odd numbers for about 10 years.
    I am feeling....the SMU should maybe stick it out in the AAC for a while, but the future seems very unstable right now with how many power conferences will be left in a few years.

    "So close but yet so far". Perhaps SMU should get a flag made up with this phrase printed on it? Meaning based on the Big 10 now moving toward inviting 4 PAC schools and ASU and Arizona regents finally meeting on 8/3 to discuss pursuing a Big 12 invite or going with this bad Apple deal. The probability of SMU getting into a Power 5 Conference now appears to be somewhere between slim and none. You offer all these lame comments about streaming being the future and how easy it is to do it, but not one time did you comment on how crappy it would be to have to play your games on a week nite or for the time being how negatively it would effect recruitment. Much less the 10 plus million dollar difference in what the Big 12 is going to get over the PAC. Plus ESPN & Fox will carry their games and most of them will be played on Saturdays. The ACC is not an option because when it's all over the Big 1G, SEC and Big 12 will porch their conference. Looks like Coach Dykes knew what he was doing when he dumped SMU for TCU. Any time you want to to see what the big boy table looks like I am sure that TCU will sell you a ticket and have plenty of water on hand for you when you get there.

  • @henrymoore7899
    @henrymoore7899 Год назад

    ACC? Wishful thinking on your part. It's only a matter of time before the top 8 ACC teams either go to the Big 1G or SEC. Teams 9 to 12 most likely go to the Big 12. And forget Big 12 membership because it's just not viable to have 2 Big 12 teams within 33 miles of each other. In the end there will be just 3 Power Conferences. No doubt the Pony's can try to win the AAC on a regular basis but there's little or no prestige in winning it. The Pony's will eventually be just like Boise State. Wins a lot but gets little or no respect. In regards to building up the South End Zone what good is that going to do when you can't put butts in all your seats now.
