One thing people don't talk enough about in regards to explosive light is the ability to ALWAYS pick up orbs even when your super is full. It's seriously an underrated element of the perk that helps tremendously with perks that activate upon orb pickup. Many of these perks don't activate without explosive light while your super is full.
I think it really comes down to champions... as you said, its extremely difficult to use lasting impression effectively on stunned champions so explosive light just became the go-to for nightfalls
Who would want to take a RL with a 7-shot mag into a GM (or anywhere for that matter) if you have Sleeper/1KV/Threaded/Reeds + Particle Deconstruction? 🤔
i prefer explosive light now, since it has a higher blast radius and damage, so its better for me overall. tbh I might just keep both in my inventory lmao
Hey! You're going to be Comment of the Day on my next video, I recognize your name LMAO Also, I definitely recommend holding on to both Lasting Impression and Explosive Light Launchers, you never know when Bungie is going to make more changes
It really depends on the build. Endgame PVE content like grandmasters where it’s harder to spawn orbs of light due to beefy enemies, explosive light might not always be up.
I disagree, in those, it's probably even easier to get it if u know what to do. if ur running witherhoard, u can easily get a multi-kill for orbs, other masterworked weapons (especially blinding or Chain Reaction Special Grenade Launchers), thermoclastic blooming, any super, whether tether, bubble, well, anything, especially since u don't lose the explosive light buff. The only bad part is if u die, then u will lose it.
@@Valorant_Simplified Apart from using supers, your talking very specific builds witch are not applicable to most GM's (witherhord except). Lasting impression is great for someone like me. I use graviton with bottom tree nightstalker, so I could get in close, hit a big boy with a lasting impression rocket, then invis and run away. For the bigger beefier boys, I would quickly unload my witherhoard then the rocket.
For stuff like gm and raids I will be using explosive light where there are usually orbs of power everywhere and for normal content I am gonna be running my royal entry
i'd say unless you like the non-immediate explosion of the lasting impression rocket, want auto-loading or don't have time to pick up orbs in the activity ur running, run explosive light. Masterwork weapons, supers, power preservation, thermoplastic blooming, so many ways to get orbs, really/
Do keep in mind for a Fireteam of 6, that 5% difference can definitely make a difference. I'm glad though, that Lasting Impression still has its place. I'll use both depending on the activity. I didn't grind an ALH/Lasting Impression Royal Entry for nothing... No plans to stop using it lol
A cool thing to do with Lasting Impression in a solo situation is pairing it with Divinity. Shoot the rocket, shoot Dvinity, and then boom. But outside of that, Explosive Light for sure. When dealing with Champions that can get out of stunned phase before the rocket explodes, pretty much wasted DPS if not careful.
Btw, hothead has an adept version with big ones spec so that’ll make it do like 30% because of the extra 7% damage against champs and bosses which is pretty cool

Something often missed in these discussions is DPS versus total damage. For bosses DPS is often preferably to end the fight faster. With that in mind a Royal Entry with Field Prep and Clown Cartridge (not to mention intrinsic target seeking, a hidden but vital perk as a missed rocket means zero dmg) will blow your DPS through the roof as you will spend so much less time reloading. Meanwhile things like Vorpal or Lasting Impression are great for total damage, but the need for so many reloads will kill your DPS.
