For every little issue I have with this game, it’s the matchmaking that makes playing it so frustrating. I hope we return to a sane matchmaking system at some point, because I can’t keep buying new COD games hoping I won’t hate playing it because I’m constantly in the worst lobbies possible for my skill level.

EOMM/SBMM is definitely a huge issue for me too, but tbh my main problem with the game is even more fundamental than that: I literally cannot play a single match without game-breaking packet loss, rubberbanding, stutters, a third of the lobby timing out, etc. anymore. I stopped playing entirely because of it.
The servers never were good with this game, but somewhere around the start of season 3, it became practically unplayable for me due to persistent lag. I tried a million solutions, nothing fixed it, and it was only a problem on MWII for me: I eventually concluded that it was a problem on their end.

With prestige, people wanted to play objective modes and win those games because of the XP they earned from doing so. Double xp weekends felt so much more special and meaningful as well. Objective based challenges were actually worth doing, again, for the extra XP

With MWII, I can't help but compare how I feel about it now compared to MW (2019), and the difference is stark. One of the big reasons I kept coming back to MW was that there was tons to earn: stickers, sprays, watches, blueprints, emblems, calling cards, gestures, and even 2XP tokens, all for either ingame challenges or daily challenges, which gave me a reason to log on everyday. Even through BOCW and Vanguard, I eventually dumped those two in favor of MW, because of how good the gameplay felt, the obsidian camo challenge and the fact that I had the sense of "Ooh, what could I unlock today?" But now, MWII I'm finding less and less reasons to log in. The only thing to unlock (beside Orion Camo, which I already did) are either the calling card challenges (but finding out what they are is a pain) or the gun camo kill challenges (which is nice, but it can get very grindy). And for leveling up you get nothing. At least in MW you would get things for leveling up (like Tier Skips, even being able to get them in daily challenges), but now leveling up only gets you a new set of calling card challenges which, again, are hard to find in the menus so who is looking them up anyways. Besides, all the daily challenges get you are XP, so it becomes even more pointless. There aren't even in game Operator challenges, which encouraged you to use different operators to unlock skins for them. It really feels like this was a Minimal Viable Product, and it is a shame that this is what it has come to. I do get some enjoyment out of MWII, but there is a lot of frustration as well. MW lasted me 3 years; I'm struggling to get through one with MWII.

There's so many guns that can just 1 or 2 shot you while guns that take a few shots all have the worst recoil control or stability so in a gunfight it always feels like less that the other person was better quickly aiming and landing shots and more that they got lucky and had 2 shots randomly hit you in their spray. I miss the older CoDs with slightly slower killing guns that had low recoil or very predictable recoil that didn't need 10 attachments to make somewhat usable.

The three biggest things for me is the clunky feeling movement and how many attachments are useless or greatly hurt your strafing/Ads speeds. Engagement optimized matchmaking rigging the game and making it feel like you are never in control even if you're a far above average player. And then finally the aimbot type aim assist that makes it hard to differentiate between an actual good player and someone who is just able to get a kill on you because they happened to be aiming around you and holding the right trigger. It actually felt rewarding in the BO2 days because aiming was actually a skill and not something given to you.

Your description of what you like about Call of Duty and how there are no real viable alternatives that give you that echo my sentiments as well. But one of the things I’ve noticed in COD, ever since the advanced movement games, is that the emphasis on gunfights has lessened. There’s a lot of complaints about movement which I don’t ever really remember hearing before when we had much more limited movement in the games. I don’t remember sliding before Ghosts. I don’t remember diving before WW2 (at least for boots on the ground, the advanced movement CODs might have had this, I didn’t really play them much). There was no hanging and shooting like we have now, either. But I hear complaints about movement literally every time I open up a COD stream. It seems like since those games, the focus has become outmaneuvering opponents rather than trying to take them on in a head to head gunfight. Someone takes shots, I take cover, and shoot back. They take cover, we have a gunfight. That’s how it used to be. Now, someone shoots at me, I take cover, start to shoot back, and all of a sudden, they’ve parkoured their way up and around all these hidden jump spots and are behind me and it’s not a gunfight anymore. When did COD become a platformer?

CoD is getting stale, there’s nothing new or interesting anymore, they used to innovate but now every game is just different iterations of the same game we’ve been playing for years, I truly believe that even if they make all the changes Ace mentioned in this video, the game would still be stale and boring, it’s not entirely the game itself’s fault, but more so the entire franchise, we’ve done it all, there’s nothing left that we haven’t done or seen in previous CoDs, they need to start adding brand new and game changing features rather than bringing back features from old games and act like they’re listening to us
MW3 and Treyarch’s next game won’t be any different btw, they might bring back dead silence or slide canceling, they might do everything we asked for in MWII, but even then the game will still be stale because we’ve had these things years ago
