    Stephen Butler earned his PhD in social sciences from Cambridge before teaching at Harvard and apprenticing at The Boston Consulting Group. His experience as an executive and entrepreneur has made him a sought-after advisor to growth companies and teams, and one of Canada’s Top 100 Professionals 2023 (Top 100 Magazine).

    A meaningful living wage has to come first because it's a lot harder to focus on aspirational goals when you have a hard time paying rent and putting food on the table..

      @@arsenal0095 You know, I had the same feeling the other day. If the comment is smart and detailed it must be a.i., and if it is only a few words, barely articulating a foggy thought it is human for sure.

    As a millennial who works with gen z and millennials getting started in their career many are clear on their purpose then quickly get disillusioned that the company they work for squeezes out their purpose and they feel like machines on a cog.
    Good perspective to help us understand what can be learned about themselves from that situation. This is why I’m an advocate for finding the joy in life, by being instead of sitting there figuring it out. Your purpose will then become clear to you, then it’s about taking the next right action to re align with your new purpose.

      Exactly. I go to work for the wage. The question one should ask is if I had enough or unlimited money, would I be working? I'll resign and spend my time how I want...

      Yes, that is a good question. There were brief periods in my life when I'd have opted to remain in the workforce ... maybe half a dozen years, in total. @@arsenal0095

    Yes, but in our society, it doesn't work like that. It's not because you discover new things, that you learn and have an impact on certain people. No. I work somewhere, I learn, I improve my skills and I probably have an impact on others, but at the end of the day, this pseudo-positive perspective is counterbalanced by the small salary I receive. At the end of the day or month, I'm still struggling to make ends meet. And no matter what I've learned, it doesn't help me survive in this society. It only works for people who earn enough and get bored. This student probably smiled as she moved dirt, but she wouldn't do it for the rest of her life.

    It would feel a lot more meaningful if the pay was better. I get that not all jobs require a high amount of intellectual prowess, but even jobs like construction, manufacturing, services, etc. require an immense amount of physical and emotional efforts.
    $18/hr is no longer enough in Biotech manufacturing. Needs to be more like $23-25/hr to reflect current prices.
    Somehow middle and upper management pay continues to go up, but they'll make sad sack excuses for why workers' pay can't.

    Executives are so disconnected from the hoi polloi. Look up Dark Triad, which make up most of the executive class, the vast majority. Look at the game in that context. Pharaoh lives. It's a con game. On the other hand, so what a man believes in his heart, so he is. The vast majority of us aren't like the 1-2% that run things. It's a consistent pattern throughout history.
    Walmart? Aren't they the company in which most of the worlforce is on public assistance?
    Most of our social issues are caused by hierarchy/inequalities and the type of folks that are at the top.

    lol.. sorry. most jobs and skills are pretty pointless. we could cut 30-50% of the work force and the world would mostly keep moving.
