- I have been living in Leicester, UK, for more than 5 years and I wanted to tell some of this city's pros and cons.

My name is Anica and I was born and raised in Italy, Rome in 1998. I'm originally from Bangladesh and I've been living in the UK for 6 years, so you could say I'm multinational. I'm studying Adult Nursing at the University of Nottingham, but I'm probably going to be like those people who study something but end up doing something completely different as a career.

I need to comment on this as I was born in Leicester and raised in the county and I've spent some time living elsewhere in UK.
I have to be brutally honest. It's shit for employment if you want something other than a warehouse/factory or hospitality job. Office jobs either don't exist or there like witchcraft to find.
The county is also way worse for employment it's just warehouse central.
It's pretty shit for clubs and nightlife too.
And lastly as a young male I'm speaking from some negative experiences in the clubs but generally my observations are Leicester and Leicestershire is horrendously bad for women and dating generally!
If you came and looked around walking through crowds, very rarely would you encounter many attractive girls and that on the whole also gets worse as you move out from the city into the county.
I moved from Leicester for uni and I want to move again just my parents and some family keeping me here at the moment.

I've lived in Leicester all my life and found taht Leicester is one of the best cities for acceptance when it comes to different ethnic, religious or Lgbt backgrounds. Great video👍

Hey I live in Leicester and just wanted to let you know there isn’t only 2 cinemas in the whole of Leicester there is actually 4 .
And the Phoenix, an independent cinema in the Cultural Quarter
although my wife was born & lived in leicester for 32 years of her 33 years of life...her australian/french husband writing this comment tonight couldn't live there...different life there than life here in queensland australia...only 1 month at a time for me...nice video...hope your future is a bright one young lady....mitchell - sunshine coast

Please - this is not precious information.
Leicester is friendly, inclusive, fun and easy to get to places. It is not a small place at all, it is a top 10 city in the UK in the terms of size.
Also it's not just Leicester, it is the surround areas, Wigston, Oadby, Groby, Anstey, Thurmaston etc. These areas are essentially part of wider Leicester.
We have cinemas, bowling arcades, tonnes of bars, restaurants, lots of shopping.
The food is amazing and the whole culture aspect is fabulous. The Curve Theatre is an excellent theatre with many great shows. De Monfort Hall has great live events.
I think Solo Ann is very confused - she hasn't really seen much of Leicester, she sticks to certain small areas, and she is for some reason trying to compare Leicester to huge worldwide cities which is wrong.
I live in Leicester, London and Buenos Aires because of my work and Leicester is charming and great place to live. I realise it's not for everyone and many foreigners want to feel like they want to live in London and i understand that but you cannot compare the experiences.
Leicester is quieter and smaller than london but every city is quieter and smaller than London!

What you say is so true. The roads in Leicester are narrow, and chaotic.
I personally didn’t like the look of the city, as not enough greenery and had litter( I am from Yorkshire and may be biased).

I lived in Leicester for a few years and yes it wasn't very nice. I wouldn't say Leicester is small - in fact the city boundary population is bigger than Nottingham city population but Nottingham Urban Area is much bigger than Leicester Urban Area

Wanted to move in liecester as my wife has just received a job offer from liecester hospital. My first day in liecester (for viewing a house on lothair road) and I encountered worst form of racism and religious hate speech on the very first encounter. Having lived in newcastle upon tyne for 5 years (predominantly English majority area) I never went through anything close to it. And guess what the ethnic and religious abuse of horrible nature was committed by an Indian Hindu who upon knowing I am Muslim from Pakistan immediately visualised himself as if he is in kashmir or gujrat and abused me, my country, my God, my prophet and also called me a terrorist and taliban. So decided not to live in any Indian majority area. Some people may have a better experience but now it has started making sense to me why white people have a bad view about us (brown) because we actually misuse the liberty given to us which we don't get in our native countries. And they generally can't differentiate between bengalis, Pakistanis, Indian and Sri Lankans.
So sorry to hear that . I am from india and i am really really sorry about that. I know its wrong and i totally agree with you , well there are some good and some bad people everywhere , i hope you meet some good indians who dont have perceptions like that

It also can be subjective right? If you want to live in a quiet place compared to London, Leicester seems to be that “quiet” one. I’m moving to UK next month and I want to live in a less populated city and Leicester is definitely on my list. My list has 3 cities, Bristol, Leicester and Reading.
Nottingham is also a really quiet place to live. There is so much nature as well. I love Nottingham.
@@SoloAnn thanks for your comment. I believe you have a video talking about Nottingham, let me watch it as well. Note that Leicester has a nice football club and I’m a big Premier League fan :) for sure that also motivates me to go to Leicester.

I personally have often thought about moving permanently to Leicester, and would be delighted to do this, but I have family roots elsewhere in England. Incidentally I lived for eight years in London and it's a hellish nightmare as well as being impossibly expensive and uncomfortably overcrowded. In addition the crime is terrible.
Personally I love living in Leicester. I've done alright for myself here and got a solid friendship group. If I do move it'll be out of the country, not anywhere else in the UK.

1. The city has 2 universities
2. Food is not cheap unless it's rubbish
3. No there is not much tolerance towards and between different cultures,
religions etc
4. Asian people born here are British. And they do live mixed.
5. You know no one who wants to stay here because your not from here originally.

think the migrants tolerate the indigenous population rather well.....useful for kids to abuse

Hiii, thanks for the insightful video. 😊 I'm moving to Leicester in about 3 weeks to university. I feel like Leicester would be an ideal starter city for me as it is close to home; its quite small so I'm less likely to get overwhelmed; and that its quite accepting 🙂🙂.

There are actually 5 Cinema's in Leicester (NOT 2) Odeon Cinema at Freeman's Common, Vue Cinema at Meridian Business Park, Phoenix Cinema at St George's Cultural Quarter, Showcase Cinema at Highcross Leicester City Centre and Piccadilly Cinema on Greenlane Road, East Leicester.
Leicester is one of the highest dumps in the UK... And that's putting it nicely... I grew up here and couldn't wait to leave! I'm so glad I did!

You're so wrong! Leicester is not small. It's in the top 10 largest cities in the UK - 10 out of thousands of cities, towns and villages!! Of course it is smaller than London or New York or any major world city but basically every city is smaller than them.
"People are nice but you can't find nice people?" And "no real community?" Are you sure you live in Leicester?
I think you must leave to the surrounding areas to see just how big Leicester is comparitively speaking. Leicester has a higher population than Leeds, Edinburgh, Newcastle and so many more.
People are friendly and inclusive. Transport links are excellent. Regarding subway or metro, basically every city in the UK does NOT have subway or metro.
For the weather, this is typical of the whole of the UK.

Dear Ann, thank you for your beneficial videos that compared the cities' pros and cons for students and drew parallels to get the best decision.
I wanted to update you on my graduate school offers. I have received offers from both the University of Leicester and Cranfield University for their MSc in Geographic Information Systems programs. Initially, I had decided to accept the offer from Leicester, but after doing some research on university rankings and comparing the courses, I have decided to take a new approach and select Cranfield instead.
I reached out to the program director at Cranfield and inquired about scholarship opportunities. She was extremely helpful and provided me with more information than I had expected. She even set up an interview with me over Zoom and offered me a discount on my tuition, which is now comparable to the tuition at Leicester.
I am now faced with the difficult decision of choosing between the two programs, and I would greatly appreciate your support and guidance in this process. Thank you for your help!

There are two big NHS hospitals in Leicester: "Leicester Royal Infirmary" and "Leicester General Hospital"

I don't think vitamin D is to do with depression. I think it is something to do with melatonin and the light sensitivity of the pineal gland.

The comment on only TWO universities and lack of subject choices is completely RIDICULOUS! For such a tiny city, really just a town, and only technically a city, to have two universities is actually a LOT! Birmingham second biggest city in England has 2, Manchester I think has 2/3, Cambridge 2, Oxford 2, etc. Big cities generally have 2-3 universities. The only place with a lot of universities is London. Leicester university is exceptionally good too, with world leading research in many areas, notably in molecular biology and genetics. There are just as many subjects and courses available in Leicester as in London with all its universities, because the universities all offer very similar courses, unless you go somewehere very specialised like SOAS or the LSE.

If you enjoy having your house burgled every 3 months this is guaranteed in Leicester
It is IMPOSSIBLE to get bored in Leicester. There are endless activities. Obviously you have to make contact with people who are doing them. It has always been a lively place, with lots of art and culture. Who needs more than two cinemas, they only show the same films? You did not mention the theatres, arts centres, or the various live events such as music gigs which are always going on at the two universities and at numerous other venues. There is a good football club, a good rugby club and all sorts of other sporting clubs and societies. Despite going to New Walk in your videos you never even mention the Museum. I strongly disagree with what you said on this point!
