This is the 4th song by Zez Confrey that I have played. He composed over one hundred pieces and is considered the inventor of the "novelty rag." He arranged and performed a lot for the player piano and his harmonies were influenced by French Impressionist composers, which he combined with the syncopations of ragtime.
My favorite section of this piece is the last one. Also I really like the trills at 00:57. You can tell me what your favorite part is if you want to.

1:02 Deedle-eet-bup-buh-bup-buuh deedle-eet-bup-buh-bup-buuh deedle-e-deedle-e-deedle-e-eet!! Or something along that line. Hahaha! This old drummer can’t keep up with what the rhythm os or what the notes are through all of those trills and runs! You did a fabulous job on this piece, Leander! All of the ragtime pieces are busy with a lot of notes in fast succession, and you have played them all incredibly well. I am most impressed, and I love to listen as you hit all of those fast notes, and I love to watch your smile spread across your face!!!

I listened a few times to try to pick a favorite part and decided I just like the whole thing. Very unique sound to this one. I do like the trills, as well. Thank you, Leander!

This was Confreys first novelty composition but it wasn’t the first overall. The very first was Felix Andts “Nola”, a beautiful pieces Imm sure you would enjoy. I do love this piece too. Wonderful performance. I did struggle with the introduction to this one

I found a record of Confrey playing this piece aided by a drummer tapping a crash cymbal -- It's intriguing to hear a accomp. shaping a piano score -- But you don't need any help ! -- You Keep Playing And We'll Keep Enjoying, Sweetheart ❤

I was wondering just what kind of pet Zez Confrey was thinking of when he composed this, and perhaps you have identified it - a kitten! Either that or perhaps a monkey scampering around.

Mr. Leander, you always hit the right note. Thanks for this musical visit! What’s interesting according to some biographical notes, Confrey enlisted in the navy during the First World War. He performed musical reviews for the sailors along with a struggling violinist, Ben K. Benny, who would later become comedian Jack Benny.

Leander, you bring to ragtime something that wasn't there before. your fingering is wicked, your tempo exhilarating and your understanding of the structure of the piece impressive and on point. It wouldn't surprise me you will be writing your own rag in the very near future. Meanwhile thank you for making my day.
