Not as common as nigiri or rolled sushi, but I find some restaurants selling oshizushi even in US too. Mostly in Japanese owned restaurants, I guess.
Oh, I see, I think in Italy there is anything like this :D.
It's mackerel, salted and then soaked in vinegar. Very good! Very easy to make at home, but a lot of work taking out the bones :-)
I have never seen the sushi press in any of the Asian grocery stores would love to have a traditional wooden one ,
