It was cute how the kids were reacting to the takeoff though. The rest of the time, I agree. One time I was flying out of Tucson when a full soccer team of teeny boppers almost filled the plane. The girl sitting next to me had never flown before and she was scared to death. Everyone of them all screamed on takeoff.
Well, I use iPhones to film, but they're not my phone. I use them specifically for filming. They're not even set up with SIM cards. So, I still have my regal phone to watch stuff on.
Currently in Killeen, TX visiting my grandma and I recorded the take off for both planes. There's no direct flight from where I live so I go from LGA to DFW and then from DFW to GRK. A few times the flight attendants saw me filming and didn't anything. Both landings were pretty bad I wish I recorded the Dallas landing because it was so rough and then the plane tried to brake and the plane started shaking lol maybe problems with the brakes?
WOWOWOW!! Good views taking off. But I don't think I'd want to do this flight in a 737. I'd want to be in a larger aircraft. I did PIT to SEA in a 737 and with fierce headwinds, the flight was nearly 6 hours. I felt very cramped on that 737. Glad that SW is recovering from its colossal scheduling mess this winter. I've only flown SW going RT SEA-ABQ-SEA back in X-Mas 2006, and I chose SW because it was the only airline that 1) had a far that was under $500 and 2) it was the only airline that had direct or non-stop flights. I didn't want to risk missing any flights at a connecting airport. Anyhow, I feel jet lagged from watching this video. I think I'll rest up and watch the next episode of Strange New Worlds. Number One is fighting for her freedom and life while on trial.
Yeah, the 737 can definitely get cramped on longer flights. This is one of the reasons I typically prefer Airbus A320 series aircraft on longer domestic flights. The A320 series has a 7 inch wider cabin than the 737 of any generation, so each seat and the aisle all have 1 inch more space. That said, I actually find Southwest's 737's to be pretty comfortable.
Out of curiosity, why was the plane flying parallel to the Calif coastline after takeoff from Long Beach ?? Wouldn't it have been better to do a straight shot to Hawaii ??
I’m theory yes, flying a straight line from A to B is the way to go. But that’s assuming perfect weather with zero winds. So the jet stream runs west to east, so when you’re flying we say you’re dealing with headwinds the entire way. At altitude, these headwinds can sometimes be 100-200mph. On a 5 hour flight, a 125mph headwind slows you down a lot. These heavy winds can often be limited to small areas though, so by moving even 50-100 miles north or south, you can actually save time and fuel. I’m assuming that’s the case here. We were probably avoiding stronger headwinds, which means we probably actually saved time by doing that.
IKR. Didn't make any sense flying so far north. Your question saved me a lot of time looking at a map and trying to figure out where they were flying and why. If I was on that flt I might have told the flt attendant that we're going the wrong way 😆🤣😂
There actually was an instance of a passenger telling the stewardess they were flying the wrong way and it turns out he was right. Varig flt 254. It didn't end happily.
The shortest distance between two points on the surface of a sphere is not a straight line, it is a great circle route. Add in extremely dense airspace in SoCal with lots of traffic coming and going to multiple Aircarrier airports (SIDS and STARS) and you almost never go "in a straight line"
One thing to keep in mind was that they were not going parallel with the coastline since the coast goes from a northwest to southeast direction while the flight was heading west.
Former Virgin Atlantic 747, yes. It was being used by a company... Oh I can't remember their name, but it was some commercial space company that has since gone bankrupt. I believe that 747 has since been flown to the desert and scrapped, but I could be wrong. I just seem to remember hearing something about that after I posted this video.
They are probably excited for their Hawaii vacation. It is nice hearing passengers enjoy their flight. What I hate is hearing a crying baby on flights. I understand it is not their fault and they have not yet learned how to control their emotions in public, but still, it is upsetting to hear them feel unpleasant.
Well, I can't answer that my friend. Airline tickets vary by day, route, length, etc. There's tons of factors that go into how much each person pays for their ticket. There'd be no way I could say any number with any certainty.
It's funny how some flights it's completely quiet, and on other flights it's very talkative. I'd imagine a flight like this to Hawaii you're more likely to have the latter of those two. You know, something about a 7:00am flight from Denver to Boise and suddenly people don't want to talk as much haha.
This is the same exact route as the first Southwest Imua One flight that you also took from Long Beach to Honolulu and one thing different, you are sitting on the opposite side as you did on Imua One!
@@sla31 I know too you took this one before the Imua One inaugural flight because this happened in March! Loved seeing different views than the Imua One flight!
@@kyleplayz3080 I would say Los Angeles is the best airport in SoCal in my opinion. Los Angeles lets you stay overnight inside the security, whereas Long Beach does not, which I learned the hard way. There are other factors too.
Yeah I did. Sadly this is the second one this year that I've heard about. The other was an American Eagle ERJ-175 and I can't remember the airport. These are unfortunate reminders that it's dangerous to work around jet engines. People get complacent, and I'm not saying that's what happened here for sure, but complacency happens at every job at some level. I know from back when I worked as a supervisor for Envoy, I drilled into my new hires heads that they DO NOT approach that aircraft if the beacons are still on. Even if you're 100% sure the engine is running, if that beacon is still on you stay away. We'd take small delays while because we waited for the crew to turn off the beacons, but becoming complacent and approaching the plane because "I know the engine isn't on." is when accidents happen. And when you are dealing with jet engines, there isn't any room for that. A very sad situation for sure.
When 737’s come to Lihue from California, they usually land with an average of 1-2 hours worth of remaining fuel on board. Honestly, MAX 8’s on the same route as a regular 737 only see maybe an extra hour difference of remaining fuel when they land. In some rare occurrences, I’ve fueled regular 737’s with a lower fuel load than a MAX 8 doing the same exact route.
To be fair, this is actually way more than you get on American, Delta, and United on all of their west coast to Hawaii flights. On those flights you just get the drink and a back of pretzels or the biscoff cookie. So, Southwest is actually giving you more than most of the other carriers.
Hawaiian Airlines serves complimentary meals on their long flights, so taking any other airline to Hawaii is not worth it. However, on cross-country flights, a flight from the east coast to west coast can take up to six hours due to headwinds, and they don’t serve complimentary meals. Just a one-time drink service and snack-service, though with spirit airlines and frontier, you still have to pay for snacks and drinks even if a six-hour flight.
I would've gone INSANE with all the people in the background. Props to you for not losing your ever loving mind.
Noise cancelling headphones haha.
@@sla31 I’m talking on takeoff & landing.. I love to record those & only wanna hear the plane & no people.. 😭
When the engine spoolup happened, the chattering kinda stop due to the g-force and the feeling of being pushed back in the seat.

Nothing wrong with that, I'd take it over the in flight Karen meltdowns (and screaming babies) any day.😊
Beautiful view of Mount Baldly after takeoff; also the Channel Islands as California recedes into the distance.
Nice loooong video :) I need to try those Fruit Snacks one day.

Great travels.
I loved it when the flight crew member said "May we pretend to have your attention...."...classic!

At first I was all like "LaGuardia???? Wait What???" It's been a long day. 🤣

Do you set up a camera or do you use your phone, if you use your phone what do you do during the flight? I would lose my mind on a 6 hour flight.

A 737 doing a 5hr flight? Damn I thought usually 757s do that
Theres one that does an 8 hour flight in a 737 max 8 from Brasilia to Orlando. I think is a very long flight for a single aisle plane.
The MAX 8 has a longer range -I think
