Catch card rates are indeed based on your score/level. IIRC the 100% speedrun for this game requires grinding up to a certain point value so that regular catch cards have a 100% rate against Amazy Dayzees.
I love how the run button is locked behind the dungeon you’ll most likely do after doing almost everything else in the game. Hilarious, gets a 10/10 from me. (Yes, the Sammer Kingdom and Flopside pits are there to do, but Dashell doesn’t do anything in combat.)
If you want a comparison of how easy this game normally is, last time I played through this, I beat the Flipside Pit shortly after I got Bowser at basically the normal level you'd be around that time. I did prep a fairly full inventory of healing items, though I'm not sure which ones (it was probably just a bunch of cooked Shroom Shakes for 15 HP heals). I easily did it in a single try with no real roadblocks or particularly scary moments and I had most of my healing items left over at the end of it. Being level 10 or whatever buffs your HP and attack so much that the lack of catch cards, the later Pixls (from Carrie on and maybe not even Thudly?), and Luigi barely even mattered, the regular enemies are just so weak compared to Bowser with a bomb and a lot of cooked mushrooms. Note that the reason I did it so early was largely because of a funny little oversight where, during Francis's dating sim portion, Peach pulls up a Pixl menu, and it doesn't show Dashell even if you have them. I was planning to point it out to a friend I was playing with, apparently not remembering that said menu is open for like a second... It was very pointless overall but I'm still kind of glad I did it. Anyway, if you don't care about that extremely minor oversight, I would recommend anyone playing through the game normally to go do the Flipside Pit right after you've beaten Chapter 3 (and gone back and gotten Barry of course), about the same as when I did it but not splitting the chapter in half; this would lead to largely the same experience but with Thudly, Carrie, Barry, and probably like one more level-up. It's absurdly reasonable to do compared to the TTYD Pit and being able to dash for so much of the game is very nice (much better for pure speed than Carrie, who's already good). It's a lot better than waiting until the game is done and the whole thing is just tediously boring, especially when you have three more tediously boring Pits to do as well (though I imagine there must be some point where the Flopside Pit isn't so bad; right before the final chapter is not it though, it's very boring then). If you really lack confidence, you could also do it after Chapter 4, as I believe beating Chapter 4 unlocks cooking with two items, which lets you make Emergency Rations, an item that heals 50 HP when in a Pit of 100 trials. It doesn't take many for you to be basically unkillable, and all you need to make them are a Shroom Shake and a Fire Burst. Conveniently, you can buy both for a grand total of 18 coins in Yold Town, the town in the first chapter. If you end up not using them, they're still good for your other pit trips. Fun fact, the best healing item heals 90 HP and is super overkill; child me naturally made a full inventory before doing the pits at the end of the game, and he only used like three of them total.
Oh boy, I can't wait to see how much of a pain this is. I think the only time I've failed on this main game was one run where the single Amazy Dayzee on floor 58 was the one with the key...
hell i dont comment often and ive been a long time youtube watcher for years but your shit rocks man keep it up, i hope you grow huge and your dedication to these challenges are inspiring
Masterfully well made video from start to finish, and very impressive gamer skill. Love how you make sure the viewer knows all the ingredients that produced success, including what you learned from each fail. I really appreciate how you convey the stakes of important situations, so we can experience the emotions of the run as if we're watching live. A lot of gaming highlight creators won't do that, and will instead just cut to a big death or win without the viewer knowing what was on the line, or without the viewer knowing whether or not save states are being used to mitigate the risk of a situation. Your challenge run videos always include the perfect amount of highlights to make it feel like a complete journey, but with a brisk pace as well. A+
I haven't been watching/listening your streams recently because I don't have brothership yet😂 (because I'm too busy at work to play it) but at least I can do the paper Mario ones
Duuuuuuuuuude I just finished watching the first video earlier today and come back to find the sequel? Just found my entertainment for the next forty minutes (plus rewatches)! Edit: this really made me want to play the whole game again and actually get all the catch cards. My first time beating the Flipside trials was an almost nonstop 12 hours of playing with very short pauses and I got a 1-week migraine after that. 100% worth it.
I think the devs designed the boss that way so you have a nice free reward after grinding through the pit. After all there are many more challenges ahead.
16:07 man, with the music I was expecting something like "who is the mysterious mdfmkrules9999? Well they are still active in the Paper Mario community, but they go by a different name nowadays: jdaster64"
it's a hot take, but i think i prefer SPM's pit to TTYD's. i'm not saying it's better, but it's more up-my-alley due to its faster pace and it feels like something i can have a youtube video on in the background. like a bringle vid or something
I was always curious- you can't use Dashell in vanilla in the hamster wheel, but it looks like there's one extra bit on the speed indicator Mario can't hit while running. I wonder if that would light up with Dashell. Also wonder if it'd change the output at all
You can buy “Tiptron” for 999 coins from Francis after beating the main story and it serves as a Tippi replacement, but I was bribed by a dono to not get her to make the rest of chat mad lmaooo
Watch, he'll release the flopside pit of 100 trials level 1 video any second now! annny second now. see? here it is! no wait, that says " *Flipside* Pit of 100 Trials".
Take a shot for every time Bringle gets clapped by not reflecting/blocking with Barry? (Only at the part where he got smacked by the soccer Koopas and now there’s two Bringles on the screen, I may be a lightweight)
The GameFAQs part wasn't just funny because of the SummoningSalt reference. It's extremely relatable to be at the mercy of what one unspecific guy said 15 years ago.
There's even harder game which is flopside dark bosses and they all one shot you once you get in the true final boss Can you make it with level one while their hp is 100 and attack power is 10 shadow heroes
There's the sammer kingdom (the chapter 5 world that gets destroyed but brought back in the post game), the flipside pit, and you have to do the flopside pit twice to actually get the reward
@sweatercryptid7078 its been like 13 years since i played this game so i dont remember lol, i just know i got the infinite 3D from the flopside pit that had shadow enemies, did i complete it without shadows first?

It's great how this run forces you to use a bunch of different pixls to solve the challenges that naturally emerge from your low stats!
I love how the run button is locked behind the dungeon you’ll most likely do after doing almost everything else in the game. Hilarious, gets a 10/10 from me. (Yes, the Sammer Kingdom and Flopside pits are there to do, but Dashell doesn’t do anything in combat.)
Deeply humorous
That’s why if you’re a Chad you go in immediately after getting boomer
Going into the pit after chapter 2 is honestly the more fun way to do it~
@@Casey_Gamer not after chapter 2, you use the return pipe the moment after getting boomer in 2-1
@@variumi Never really thought to do that cause I barely used the return pipe, but doing it after chapter 2 is still fun to do
