Why does your thymus gland shrink as you age? Knowing this could save your immune system.

3:57 How to support your thymus gland health
5:16 One additional way you can support thymus health
In this video, I want to talk about the thymus gland and why it shrinks down as you get older. The thymus is a gland located beneath your breastbone, right on top of the heart. It is the training center for your immune cells-specifically for T-cells.
When you’re an infant, your thymus gland is very large. As it’s exposed to pathogens, it becomes smaller and smaller. By the time you’re 75-years-old, it is virtually replaced by fat. This is known as thymic involution or thymic atrophy. As the thymus shrinks, your risk of infection, cancer, and autoimmune disease increases.
A decreased level of antioxidants is believed to be the cause of thymic involution. Without antioxidants, you have excessive oxidation, which kills off important cells. If this is true, it follows that consuming plenty of leafy green vegetables is beneficial for preventing thymic involution.
The thymus is involved in the creation of three cells:
    1. T-cells - these are antiviral, anti-tumor, and antibacterial
    2. T-helper cell - these are the commanders of the entire immune system
    3. T-regulatory/T-suppressor cells - these help suppress an overactive immune system
By age 65, your diversity of these cells is diminished significantly.
When it comes to COVID-19, you are very unlikely to die from this virus if you are under 65. However, after 65, your risk significantly increases. This could be linked to thymus function.
The question is, what can we do? Why we can’t control aging, we can control our health and other factors.
    1. Increase antioxidants
    2. Lower stress
    3. Increase zinc
You can also take a thymus extract, which will help support your thymus health and immune system.

Let's say carbs in dates are not the same as carbs in a biscuit same as grass fed beef and GMO fed. Can you reason with facts for this problem?

I'm thinking that if we hadn't deviated from our hereditary diet of meat, fats and plants with sugar and refined carbs our chronological life expectancy would be about 120 something. Nevertheless we each have our own unique physiological age as compared to or chronological age. If for a good portion of your life you have been doing some or all of what Dr. Berg has been describing, most likely your physiological age is much younger than your chronological age. Some people's thymus gland may last longer. Also, the immune system has numerous backup, redundant mechanisms to insure survivability. There is a reason for everything, nothing, and I mean nothing is a coincidence. So, why has the good Dr. Berg come into our lives,...well....?

No, you can pull them apart, pour some out and then put them back together. I do this all the time with supplements. I actually have this brand that he displayed and it’s a great brand.

Wouldnt it be great if our gov wasnt subserviant to junk food and drug big business ($) and actually promoted good health? It is a concept that has been emerging and seems to be attracting attention of more and more of us. Dr. Berg is giving us invaluable info on how to improve our health and buck the system that is perpetuating sickness. US basically has an "illness care" system; not a healthcare system. Its not easy to go against the status quo, but we are talking about our health. It is vital.

Why supplement with zinc when you can eat more beef, lamb or oysters? To catch up on a deficiency?

Lamb! An underrated meat i much of the U.S. these days. Not a fan of oysters, but they are full of zinc. :)

@Taiwo Omotosho Pumpkin seeds have a lot of phytic acid which inhibits zinc absorption. They are an inferior source of zinc compared to the original foods that I listed.

If it shrinks why do Myasthenia graves patients have it removed even when there isn't a tumour? Some that have a thymectomy go into complete remission and others it doesn't achieve anything. Would like to understand the benefits

"If you don't use it, You loose it". When you're a child you are constantly exposing yourself to germs, dirt, organisms, etc.. When you grow up, as some of us do, we sterilize our lives and I believe that this "non-use" of the thymus gland is the key reason that it shrinks and why there is illness. My Opinion and something to think about.
