I'm getting ready to purchase one of these for what I want to know is is it supposed to be a substitution for an air conditioner cuz my room gets really really hot and I wanted to be cool so is it something I should I should buy or should I just get
A couple of points - did you know there is a magnetic bit right on top of the fan where you’re supposed to store the remote? I bought a second remote off eBay and keep one on the unit and one for elsewhere. If you lose one then you’ve always got the other. Regarding reliability - I use one of these on stage and have done twice every weekend for the last four or five years. Perfect for the gigging musician - cold air for when you’re inside, warm air for when you’re shivering under a marquee. Still good as new. Bonus tip - when you use it in the bedroom it becomes an amazing way to dry off hair and body after showering. Also as it’s quiet it makes the perfect late night hair dryer. Ok I’m done.
For those who are disappointed for its cooling, it isn't a compressed "cooler". Meaning, its not the same thing as something like a car AC or a Window Unit, like he said, its depending on natural effects and it does not go through processing through the coolant (gas) like a A/C would.
Great accurate review. It's a great portable & safe heater. That's it. It's suck at cooling. Don't expect to get much cool air in the summer. Not worth the price.
I was just given a dyson air purifier today. I suffer from allergies and take a bunch of meds for it. I just stayed in the room for a few minutes with this thing on and I think I can probably even ditch taking medication. I feel way more different with this than the loads of allergy meds I take. Of course this is day one, but I feel a huge difference in the air I'm breathing in. Also, it's running at level 3 right now and set to Auto. I barely notice the sound and minus the found sound of running water from a distance.
@@sayhitomychopper9594 In what way does it cool the air? It cools you by delivering so much air to your skin, thus cooling you. However a normal fan with blades does the same. The same crap, that the man in the videos tells us. Pretty good laugh though.
Hi Steve, had mine for about a year. Last year worked beautifully with the heater mode. Then this year a burning smell coming out of the fan. Only when heater is running. Tried cleaning and vacuuming it. Am I going to have to take this thing apart?

The heater on the Dyson is nice, but you can buy a cheap $15 heater at 1500W (Since that's all an electrical outlet can permit) to do the same thing. Out of 10, I'd give it a 3 out of 5 for cooling and 3 out of 5 for heating = 6 out of 10.

Firstly a fan does NOT cool the air. You feel cooler because ANY moving air that passes your skin will remove some of the heat from your body, partly through evaporation of sweat. Any moving air will do this, even the cheapest fan on the market. Regarding heat, just look at the rating tab. If it says 2KW that how much heat will produce. No matter the cost. A 2KW heater will give THAT, no more no less. If it costs $30, or the rip of Dyson cost, it will still give you 2KW of heat. No more, no less.
But one adjusts to your desired temp as precisely as my Audi does and shut off when reaching desired temp and automatically turns on when temp drops off...while the other cheap heater burns up your room where you need to manually turn it off and on and it only has 3 heat setting. The more expensive heater that can also circulate air and have thermostat cost $150 and above and still not on par with Dyson heater.
this is why i love the Dyson AM05 cause if you loose the remote you still have all the buttons on the front of the unit. thank you for the share 1 luv Reema nyc
I just got one today. Does yours make a high pitch/frequency pulsating sound when you have the fan on setting one? I had a window open nearby and thought it was coming from outside but when I turned the machine off the sound disappeared. You know it is coming from the machine if you put your ear right up to the grill. This could get annoying at nighttime listening to that sound when you are trying to go to sleep.
When you have it on the fan setting, on the 01 setting, on either diffused or focused mode, on oscillation or no oscillation mode your unit doesn’t emit any noise?
"I had to put it on a pedestal or on a chair to elevate the air" (paraphrasing, sorry!) I have the same model, and the head tilts vertically to angle the air up or down a bit... It's not a full 180 degree turn or anything, but you can definitely tilt it to point the air up or down.
It's also impossible I'm afraid the motor produces heat - put it in a closed room and the heat will rise - there is no way around it - air blowing across you makes you feel cooler due tothe evaporative effect of sweat - as with any fan.
When using extension cords for this heater. Its 1500 watts. That's about 12.5 amps. If you absolutely have to use one, make sure you get one that's rated for at least 15Amps and I wouldn't use one more than 10-12 feet long. People often ask what's the big deal? Well the thing is is that when you have a hot extension cord that has a sustained temperature for possibly hours at a time... doesn't take a genius to figure out how dangerous that could be, specially if you're using it in a space that is drafty and difficult to keep warm. If your cord doesn't say what amperage it's rated for, don't use it.
@@TechSteve question, i finally bought one, and i noticed that with the heating setting to a desired temp. Once temp is reached, it powers down like it should, but its still a light stream of cool air blowing, until it cuts back on for heat. Have you noticed that. Or why does it do that. Thanks
I bought 3 of these I have one in the bedroom does not heat it very well the one in the lounge is the same I have it on 30c and takes all day for the room to get hot so I have got a cheap heater and the room now is hot love the vacuum and the hairdryer but not this heater 😮

Hello Tech Steve. Really liked your video. I just purchased a refurbished AM09 from Walmart. I am hoping that it will work properly. If it does, it will probably encourage me to buy other Dyson products. I intend on using it mostly for heat and would like to place the unit directly on vinyl plank flooring. Did you notice if the base got really hot and could damage flooring during your tests? Thank you for your "service".
The heater part works great, however the cool air, that's a joke there's nothing cool about it. I don't understand why it says it goes to 34° it doesn't even cool it. Level four and its really loud.
What Tech Steve this us Tech-TyTy thank you for the review. However I recommend that you read over instructions love your product before you review. There's a magnet of the top of the machine at 1 also in the remote so the remote is designed to stick to the top of the fan itself you don't lose it second thing that you didn't like about the fan is that it was short and didn't have a pedestal 2 sit on however I think I would have been good for you review if you mention that it can tilt backwards or forwards pivoting in whatever direction to solve the problem
A $17 fan at Walmart is loud but you’re not being fair with that statement. Your Dyson fan is set at 1. Set it to 5 or above and the sound becomes unbearable for sleep or for background noise.
Why are you comparing a $17 Chinese made walmart fan to a hot and cool Dyson that has a thermostat, remote control and digital temp display where you can adjust the temp of a room and has an auto shut off and timer as well as it being fanless and have multiple modes for air circulation. That's like comparing a 2023 Mercedes Maybach to a 1980 Lada and saying well the Lada is cheaper and can turn on and go point A to point B. There is a reason why one is $17 while the other is $500. I mean people are not that dumb to spend 100x if it were the same. You can also buy a $10 dial up Walmart cellphone instead of iPhone, why pay so much for iPhone? They both can call and text.
These are 1800 watts so I get concerned my wiring in my old boat will get hot like the cord does. Mine smells like burning plastic slightly and it's noisier then my others. Not worth the money in my eyes. And doesn't cool the air like they advertise. I do like how it tilts. I think this gan is louder then the 12 other heaters I have. I can run 2 1500 watt heaters inmy sailboat. But when I replace one 1500 heater with the Dyson 1800 watt heater it blows my breaker, not Dyson fault but thought you all should be aware. Other heaters work better for cheaper.
FYI--NEVER, EVER use a HEATING unit on an extension cord, 6-WAY or any other type of electrical cord to extend the length of the power cord. Doing so is a FIRE HAZARD and goes against UL safe measures. PLUG DIRECTLY INTO THE WALL RECEPTACLE ONLY. Thank you
@@atrufriend2u Yes, you can do it, but be sure your cord is heavy enough. If your heater is 120VAC, use a 12/3 cord. If you have a 240VAC heater, use a 10/3 cord. I wouldn’t use more than about 30 feet in any case. These heavy cords are usually available from home supply or hardware stores. You can plug a space heater into an extension cord with no hazard as long as you use the right cord. A space heater uses as much as 13 amps of current on a 120 volt line. That is 1500 watts. This is the limit of the outlets that are normally supplied in a home. The wiring in the walls are 14 gauge and are rated and breakered at 15 amps. There is a limit to how long those wires in the wall can be. If you have a run that is longer, you have to use a bigger wire. Most light duty extension cords use even smaller wire than the wiring to the receptacle. It common to find #16 or even #18 wire in these cords. Smaller wire has a bigger gauge number. You can buy a heavy duty industrial extension cord that has a larger gauge, like #12 or #10 wire. You can even find them in home and garden stores, but they cost just under $100 dollars for a 50 ft cord. They, plugged into a suitable receptacle, will handle the load of a space heater. There are also receptacles that are rated to handle 20 amps of current. They look like this. That is all a little confusing, isn’t it? So the general rule to keep someone out of trouble is to not plug space heaters into an extension cord unless you know when it is ok. Not following this rule can result in a fire. The cord needs to be rated for the amperage of the heater, minimum. It should be run in the open air and not in a wall cavity, or under a rug, or any place you cannot see it. the cord must meet or exceed the amp rating of the heater. In North America, the typical plug-in heater draws 1500 watts at 120 volts, that’s 12.5 amps. You will need a minimum 14 gauge cord. The extension cord should be as short as practicable and must be the same or greater gauge than the house wiring, since this will probably run for long periods of time and wiring tends to heat up when you draw a lot of current. House wiring is typically 14 gauge so get an extension that is this size and no longer than 20 feet.
@@BlackCeII All the technical talk sounds wonderful, since I do electrical work... Yes, increasing the gauge is the right thing to do to handle the wattage and the amperage of the device--but it's the heat that breaks down and causes the fire hazard....NOW if you like to post a video and prove your theory, I'm all for watching it!
It gets pretty hot in my room and was primarily looking for a top of the line AC. I love the Dyson brand too. But it seems like the AC aspect of this fan is underwhelming. If AC is my priority, is this fan not worth it?
These things are a pain in the ass to clean. You use that toothbrush you just push that dust to inside & you should take it apart & clean the two fan blade parts connected to the motor. Plus all the other dust that collects in it. Also on high it is very loud
HUGE and worth it ??? ... a $40.00 fan will lower the ambiant 80 degree temp to a cooler 75 degree... and take much less space. Also...neither fans will purify my dusty city air.... and dehumidify my humid Montreal heat waves air. 600 dollars in my pocket OR on a cool bicycle to take me to the green spots and the trick's done.

I mean people are not that dumb to spend 100x if it were the same. You can also buy a $10 dial up Walmart cellphone instead of iPhone, why pay so much for iPhone? They both can call and text.
Blinking red circle and 112 error message remote does not work
Would this be a good fan to warm up the bathroom? My floor heating isnt kicking it enough 🙈
I think will work great
Gracias!
There’s a new blue tooth version out
I was that kid who put their finger in the fan 😂
I was that kid that put cards in the spokes on my bike.
You forgot the tilt function. Sorts out the floor issue.
I'm kind of pissed. I paid a bunch of money for one of these things a few years ago and now all I get is an e2 error code instead of heat.
Thank you.
The remote sits on the top of the fan because it has a magnet inside so you won’t lose remote
You can tilt it up so you don’t need to put it on a stand
Cheers
That doesn’t work in your bed room if you sleep on the opposite side of the bed
Nice video 😀🙏
Was the fan worth the price?
It depends on the person, a regular fan works great but too loud.
Thank you
It depends on the extension cord really
@@BlackCeII It does not matter-the manufacturers states that intentional.
How about those wall adaptors that turn 2 outlet into 6??
It gets pretty hot in my room and was primarily looking for a top of the line AC. I love the Dyson brand too. But it seems like the AC aspect of this fan is underwhelming. If AC is my priority, is this fan not worth it?
Nope, buy an AC unit
Do you know if the only cold ones better?
It's not a heat pump, it's just an ordinary fan, like one you can buy for $30 with exactly the same results.
No it doesn't have AC. It cools by pushing the room temp air fast
20 pound fan gives me a nice breeze
I like the heater the fan is okay I guess
I agree
Just sent mine to Dyson to checked told them it's a pile of crap .
These things are a pain in the ass to clean. You use that toothbrush you just push that dust to inside & you should take it apart & clean the two fan blade parts connected to the motor. Plus all the other dust that collects in it. Also on high it is very loud
Our fan keeps turning itself off can anyone help us ,is there a timer
Yes there is a timer function on it. Try and press the clock on the remote
Thanks bro for the info... 👌
Dust magnets I’m cleaning mine regularly
Costco Uk have them two for 489
