I'm 36, I had cancer 12 years ago, went through the most painful treatment a human being can handle, until the blessed day came when they told me I was cured. The thing is, when I was all wounded and down, only band I listened to was Radiohead, specially the OK Computer album, for some reason, this music kept me going, I can't explain it, it's magical. So now that this song comes up, for some reason all that energy of trying to survive a lethal sickness, all the hope that I had, all the love and patience I had to practice, all that came back, and jus like I PROMISED I will survive, I'm now listening to this masterpiece. I am still living in the same flat and only now I have noticed that this place 2:21-2:27 is about 150 meters from our house. yes, I love them more than anything outside of Nirvana and Foo Fighters as far as modern music goes. Creep was so grunge and epitomized the loser/slacker early 90s young man. Then listening to the choral arrangement of it again in 2008 for Social Network. I realized the ending words and got a new perspective of the song with "she's running out again" implying it's not the 1st time he's stalked this girl which truly makes him a Creep!
You know, I'm 20 right now and the day of my 20th birthday I had this kinda nostalgia for something I've never really lived. I just though "I wish that I was 20 in 1997,walking the streets buying 'Ok Computer' in a store and listening to it all day long, watching a world maybe better than this".. and now Radiohead makes this dream come true in part. Thank you Radiohead, really.
Yes, however did you know, being 20 in 1997 was so perfect in every way. The world was just completely beautiful because you could buy OKC at the age of 20 in 1997. I'm 37 and I'm really, really tired of ignorant comments like these that try to idealize a time you know nothing about; there's something tremendously insulting in someone simplifying a period of time into some juvenile and unrealistic impression instead of actually realizing that no period of time is ideal. Also, I've been a Radiohead fan since the mid-90s and I've always been annoyed by pretentious comments like those littering this video's response section.
Thom Yorke: "What a bunch of nutters we were...and probably still are. One of the crazy things we did was not release this song, because we didn't think it was good enough".
“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams.
beautiful words. Depicts the feeling of the video pretty well, the android is trying to capture everyone´s emotions, to be in the present moment with everything around (it?) him. Even if he's a non-organic thing, even then, he is trying to be there, in the life he is actually living, in contrast with many of us which are able to be in the moment but simply choose not to, cause its not as easy as the quote says. This is one of my favorite songs of all time.
It's already 2021 guys. I've been living a shitty life for a long time but this is my year. I'm gonna change now. This song fills me with so much hope. I hope you guys can get out of all the adversities you're going through. Edit : June 2023, I've got into my dream university pursuing something I'm really passionate about. Things didn't work out between me and her but it's okay, it happened for the best. It gets better, kings and queens, I promise.
Update : Six months have passed by and I think I'm in a better place right now. I started working out, I finally approached the girl that I like and I think she is into me too. I don’t wanna get too hopeful tho, I'm still clueless about my future ;-;
@@suedadoner8256 I won't say that awareness would act like comfort zone. It will only help you deal with the situation but deep down you will always remember.
This song is empowering. The slow marching rhythm, as if it was marching toward something, happily and willingly. It's a statement. It simply means I will love you unconditionally. No matter what. I promise.
As someone who is afraid of relationships and is constantly pushing away people due to bipolar behaviors although I need them. I can relate every part of this song deeply.
I can only say I'm glad I found theese comments, this is exactly how I feel about this song. The instrumental sections of this song are among the most poignant pieces of music I’ve ever heard. The bass line under the soaring strings are just sublime... and at the end, Thom’s voice stretches into the strings and trails off into the sky. The rest of the song is pretty f***ing great, too.
Whenever I find a Radiohead video I haven't seen yet, I always ask myself this: am I ready to get my heart violently ripped out by Thom Yorke's voice? The answer is always yes.
Radiohead is often ridiculed for making depressing(melancholic) songs, but this is how songs should be: of pure emotions -emotions which are not fake, corrupted or molded by societal frivolous norms.
Sometimes people don't show their to true feelings through their behaviours. Yet their feelings inside themselves are wrecked....... I'm just saying my opinion. Nothing less. Nothing more.
He sees through the bus window out into the world and into the eyes of people who are hurting and without hope. They may have different circumstances, but he understands their pain because he too is missing a very large part of himself. Very simple premise, but touching and beautiful with the music. Very easy to identify with.
OMG you are so insightful. I had not been able to figure out what the video was about. At first, I saw a severed head, imagining how he got on the bus and to his seat. I like your explanation much better

A broken/incomplete/severed man (or a facsimile of one in his own eyes) traveling on a path he clearly did not (could not?) put himself on laments his trajectory until he gets to glimpse her one last time, then in all of its heart-wrenching glory, the destination becomes irrelevant thanks to that brief swath of happiness. We should all be so fortunate as to find ourselves on a window seat in life.
Perfect bus song, I agree. In fact I first heard it when on the bus and didn't even realise the concurrence while watching the vid :/ Weeks later I learnt it was shot in Poland, which I had also failed to realise despite its fairly obvious references and me being raised in Poland. I'm quite slow on the uptake, but nevertheless feel like this song was meant to be. I love Radiohead and right now I love this song especially.
I've cried many times to many emotional songs but this one in particular just absolutely Obliterates me into a billion pieces. I can hardly make it half way through this song it's that good. Thank you Radiohead for a life time of incredible music, I promise.
I so need this....Why? Cause this song here so relatable I promise a whole lot only to screw it up each time so on behalf of me going old (still youthful) I'm so sorry I'm also sorry I suck at a couple of things so in a way I'm promising to be more like mark from trainspotting says "choose life" that's why I need to choose life cause of promises.
It's wonderful how different people reacting differently to a particular song. People from different countries and different ages, having different stories of their lives. Thank you all for your beautiful comments. -just a stranger from Bangladesh🇧🇩
All this time, all these years and all I've been through and this song comes today from my adolecence to remind me where I'm from and what i'm supposed to do... "I promise"
well not really "the jews" but żydzie stands for one person but it's still written pretty badly in grammar way but i still can't understand why is that beacuse it makes no sense. Maybe someone had a nickname "jew" and it doesn't have to be adressed to an actual jew i guess
"Even when the ship is wrecked, I promise Tie me to the rotten deck... I promise" I love this line. He's saying that even when their relationship crashes, he's never going to give up on it.
people say that Radiohead "started" with OK Computer. Don't get me wrong, it was a milestone but The Bends was my first record to get into Radiohead. This song brings me back to this time, how time flies!
Imagine an album being SO good that this song didn't make the cut!!! Edit: I'm amazed how many people are taking this comment literally and missing my point entirely
+Jaka Prakasa Idk. A Reminder, Meeting in the Aisle, Palo Alto, Polyethylene, and How I Made my Millions are all really good and still ended up as b-sides. But you are right. It didn’t really fit the album. Neither did Lift (though, I think Lift could’ve been a good closing track after the Tourist). It was probably also a matter of the album length. Sometimes bands have a bunch of extras that just don’t make official releases. But, I think the band left them out because Lift and I Promise were pretty blatantly too britpop-y for the band and they didn’t want those songs to overshadow the rest of their main singles, or the album.

Rodolfo, in my opinion, it's the feeling that you can feel and the things that you can look at through a window in a long night, when you guess you're alive but you're already dead inside, like the plastic face, which is the main character, that in the end, when morning comes, discovers that it is effectively dead! This video breaks my
You never hear the original live version back in the day? Always loved it, but it sounded pretty bad, always wondered why they never made a clean version of it on a b side. But, this song deserves to be on a actual album.
thats the core of the song. He is far too damaged and incomplete. Still he can feel empathy for others even when he is the most broken of them all. Feels love even when he doesnt feel lke human anymore. Radiohead is like watching a full lenght movie without watching it. Thats where their brilliance comes from.
TheAnthraxBiology OK Computer is perfect even Fitter Happier in context works epically. But I am so hyped for the B-sides. LIFT finally! Taste the happy! 😂
A friend of mine once told me that when a person smokes up quite frequently, it starts making things fade, especially emotions. Nothing’s sharp enough anymore. You start getting numb towards everything. And yet, grow mellow. Really truly mellow. It takes out the pleasure from surroundings, and you’re left back with a feeling of loneliness, otherness. This video is an apt display of rundown, disconnected, unexpressed emotions.
the songs they wrote during this time were just incredible. So many amazing songs in one small time. To have I promise, man of war, and lift as throw always is just ridiculous. They are the greatest band of all time, and no one will ever be able to argue that with me.

I think it's "I don't wish that I'm spared" (not strict). As in he doesn't want to be spared the bad parts of their relationship, the fights and cold days.
I played this song in my head when i was sitting alone in a crowded bus. It was pouring outside and i was gazing at the junction through the window and man, the glistening roads were reflecting the streetlights and the headlights of the cars and i saw a child watching the puddle form ripples. It was all so goddam beautiful and i felt so glad i didnt kill myself the previous day.
It's the weirdest thing. I was listening to my tunes and junk tonight, and this melody came back to me even though i only watched this song for a few minutes weeks ago. It was driving me crazy, and I thought it was in a sad film I watched or something. I looked up "songs that can make people cry", saw somebody mention 'Last Flowers' by this band, and went on RUclips to see it. I saw this video in the suggestions, and everything came flooding back. Bless everyone in Radiohead, seriously
This song has always chilled me to the bone. Thank you for giving a new life to such an obscure and haunting song. Well done lads, 20 more years to come

Beautiful song. I can see why it wasn't on OK Computer though. Different vibe. Makes me think more of The Bends (High and Dry- Fake Plastic Trees) style.
How are Radiohead's B-B-sides better than most other band's singles? And twenty years after this was written, AMSP still hits the quality bar. Legendary.

Spine chilling, classic WORLD CLASS RADIOHEAD.....
They actually thought that it would make them too popular. Sort of like "Creep"

“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams.
Too profound.

beautiful words.
That's why we know there is an afterlife, otherwise where are you recalling it from?
The voice of an angel.
Good luck!
Hope you're doing good
Update : Six months have passed by and I think I'm in a better place right now. I started working out, I finally approached the girl that I like and I think she is into me too. I don’t wanna get too hopeful tho, I'm still clueless about my future ;-;

It's not a depressing song, it's a beautiful song.
What I mean is it's a melancholic song - painful and sad but yet so beautiful.
I think it's depressing but maybe he was depressed when he wrote it.
It is something subjective shivani 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Beautiful and depressing song
@@suedadoner8256 I won't say that awareness would act like comfort zone. It will only help you deal with the situation but deep down you will always remember.
This song is empowering. The slow marching rhythm, as if it was marching toward something, happily and willingly. It's a statement. It simply means I will love you unconditionally. No matter what. I promise.
It's 2017, and radiohead is just as relevant as they were in the 90s.
And someone told me on twitter that Radiohead has not had any impact on music and has not influenced anyone lol
We need them more now than we ever did before along with Rage Against The Machine & Manic Street Preachers
and will keep
Alex, agree 100%. I think they'll always be relevant. Music is timeless.
To be fair, this was recorded in the 90s but just released this year. BUT YES! I AGREE!!
As someone who is afraid of relationships and is constantly pushing away people due to bipolar behaviors although I need them. I can relate every part of this song deeply.
Reading your comment helped me understand the feelings I get listening this song. Thank U.
You seem like a cool person.
Reading both of your comments made my life worth living. Thank you.
I can only say I'm glad I found theese comments, this is exactly how I feel about this song. I usually try to be tough and convince myself I need no one but me and that relationships are just too hard and not worth it, but when I go to sleep every night, I lay down and face the truth that I need someone, we all do...

Never give up, keep on struggling.
Good for you. The dead only know one thing: it is better to be alive.
Don't take life or radiohead too seriously xx
Man, the video has a way of making you feel lonely. It complements the song very well.
Shubhad Mathur ...I think it should also inspire all to move. Get up & walk. Leave negative situations.
HaveFaith33458 Radiohead always symbolises the complete lack of hope in society which this music video accentuates well.

The instrumental sections of this song are among the most poignant pieces of music I’ve ever heard. The bass line under the soaring strings are just sublime... and at the end, Thom’s voice stretches into the strings and trails off into the sky. The rest of the song is pretty f***ing great, too.
The riff is the same as notes lazy eye, two all time BANGERS
It's wonderfully simple and folksy. It may sound strange but it reminds me of Bring the Boys Back Home by Pink Floyd (the snare helps hehe)
I will listen Radiohead for the rest of my life, I promise
Whenever I find a Radiohead video I haven't seen yet, I always ask myself this: am I ready to get my heart violently ripped out by Thom Yorke's voice? The answer is always yes.
Radiohead is often ridiculed for making depressing(melancholic) songs, but this is how songs should be: of pure emotions -emotions which are not fake, corrupted or molded by societal frivolous norms.
feu Being an asshole does not preclude a person from being emotional
would you mind to elaborate why he's an arse?
Sometimes people don't show their to true feelings through their behaviours. Yet their feelings inside themselves are wrecked.......
I'm just saying my opinion.
Nothing less.
Nothing more.
Listen to Joni Michells "Blue", the most emotionally pure album I've ever heard.

They may have different circumstances, but he understands their pain because he too is missing a very large part of himself. Very simple premise, but touching and beautiful with the music. Very easy to identify with.
Josh Quiggle absolutely right. For a long while I have been looking out of myself

Rohith Prasad Perfect bus song.
I love Radiohead and
right now I love this song especially.

well not really "the jews" but żydzie stands for one person but it's still written pretty badly in grammar way but i still can't understand why is that beacuse it makes no sense. Maybe someone had a nickname "jew" and it doesn't have to be adressed to an actual jew i guess
Yeah sure but it still was kind of a cool lil thing that may be exciting for polish fans but yeah
Not" Żydzie" but "Życie". Życie means Life.I miss You..Life. It's like screaming someone who yearns for real life.
yeah i thought that but I saw "D" instead of a "C" so it confused me
maybe the sign stands for Rachel. don´t worry...they´ll be back together in the next life

Relationship? No, that woulď be kitsch
Read the entire lyrics of the song. it's about a relationship "I won't fool around no more" etc.
Ryan Jorden Yeah, you can only fool around in a "relationship" 😞
That's not a good thing. Lots of relationships are unhealthy. No glamour in ruining yourself for romance.

people say that Radiohead "started" with OK Computer. Don't get me wrong, it was a milestone but The Bends was my first record to get into Radiohead. This song brings me back to this time, how time flies!

Edit: I'm amazed how many people are taking this comment literally and missing my point entirely
It blew my mind too. You have such an incredible song, but your disc it’s so good that it didn’t make the cut.
Crazy
It doesn't fit the album. And it's too good for a B-side. So they keep it? That's how imagined it lol
And then they sit on it for 20 years 😳🤷♂️...

Rodolfo, in my opinion, it's the feeling that you can feel and the things that you can look at through a window in a long night, when you guess you're alive but you're already dead inside, like the plastic face, which is the main character, that in the end, when morning comes, discovers that it is effectively dead!

thats the core of the song. He is far too damaged and incomplete. Still he can feel empathy for others even when he is the most broken of them all. Feels love even when he doesnt feel lke human anymore. Radiohead is like watching a full lenght movie without watching it. Thats where their brilliance comes from.

Radiohead is life.
Pink Floyd is too.
How are Radiohead's B-B-sides better than most other band's singles? And twenty years after this was written, AMSP still hits the quality bar. Legendary.
Think you got the wrong album there man. AMSP came out in 2016. This was meant to be on OK Computer
