  • This video shows how I refill my NON-REFILLABLE Coleman "Powermax" gas cylinders(Which are hard to find where I live) for use with much of my gas powered appliances & lanterns. This method applies to similar smaller gas canisters as well. I also explain the do's and dont's, and other fuels which are used. DO NOT smoke or carry out this procedure near any sparks(electric motors, etc). Very safe when done PROPERLY. For more info, please refer to the video.

I do this with Mapp gas bottles too. Put them in the freezer and warm the propane BBQ tank with a hair dryer first. Saves a ton of money. great vid as usual.

Very good explanation of temperatures and pressures of the different gasses. I don't use the butane cylinders, just propane. But, I believe your video is more informative than most, so you get a like from me for almost all your videos! Long time subscriber.

I'm not sure if I understand the "V" notch in the hard plastic tube and what that should look like. Can you show what that would look like when made? I would be very thankful as I have a brand new double folding stove and several canisters. I really wish I could refill them!!! I'll check back from time to to time to see if you have shown what the V notch looks like... again THANK YOU for any help!!!

Is there any "conditioner" that you can use on the o-rings to stop them from hardening and cracking?

smeghorn foghorn All I can suggest for my viewers which have ADD, is to watch another channel, because I make sure I produce highly detailed, and well explained videos to greatly reduce the number of questions asked by viewers. Didn't anyone teach you to not complain about something you get for free? I guess not.

electronicsNmore Awesome, very helpful video. Ignore the haters. Those that can't create their own content can only give useless criticism.

I seem to recall that the Powermax cylinders are the only ones that are made of aluminum? That would make them very desirable from a weight standpoint. Have they discontinued this line of products? I cannot seem to find them listed at any of the usual places.

You can find them online. I refill them for 2 reasons, price and because they are hard to find.

electronicsNmore Thanks for that info. I had forgotten that they have their own proprietary connection. What would be handy would be an adapter that would allow for the use of the more common 7/16 NS threaded Lindal connectors. As others have noted in forums, it's too bad no-one makes a refillable Titanium 7/16 NS threaded Lindal cannister with spec's high enough to handle propane, I'd probably be willing to pay $100.00 for something like that.

mmm interesting, but still looks dangerous unless you really know what you are doing. It's not just a little pop like when a cap blows when you mess up with those..

I refilled 3 the other day. No problems. I only had to use the blunt nail on one cylinder to stop the leak. Newer cylinders are resistant. There is no cap to blow, all that can happen when properly filled, is the valve in the canister may not seat properly. That is all. This is certainly not for the average person. :-)
