  • We do some simple diagnosis on a Warn VR8 winch to identify why it is not operating. A few simple test, in only a few minutes can tell you what component is not working. This winch was clicking , but the motor was not operating.

    A video of the rebuild would've been great.

      You are right. I don't know why I didn't include it . It was a few years ago and I don't remember the circumstances on why I didn't film the rebuild.

    @6:00 If el. configuration is "field and rotor in series" you must connect one side of field to rotor and try the other to Batt(+) (with housing to Batt(-) )
    And trying rotor connection to Ubatt(+) w/o sparking means brushes or rotor are bad.

    Brushes are under the back cover, not under star bolts on the side. Didn’t try to jump correctly

      You're probably correct. I tried a bunch of different ways to jump the motor and nothing worked. Turns out it was shorted out before I got it. It was rebuilt and worked like a charm. The electric controls were fine.

    Those are not the brushes. Those are the magnets you were trying to undo.

    Great video I have the exact same winch but mine turned out to be a broken pin in the controller. Its looking to be impossible to repair so most likely I'll need a completely new controller

      Hopefully you can find a controller online or a replacement.

    Nice save, are you gonna mount it on the rear bumper or buy another Jeep?

      Sold the winch to buy more Jeep parts.

    Nice job.So how much money do you have in this refurbished winch?It is almost as good as new now...

    • @FMJeeping
      @FMJeeping  4 года назад +1

      The rebuild was a little over $120. It was more than I wanted to spend. If I were to do it again. I think so should have went with the generic motor replacement.

    And when I try to feed it out it doesn’t click how it would when I feed out wire

    • @FMJeeping
      @FMJeeping  2 года назад +1

      That could potentially be a bad solenoid or your switch

  • @noelrodriguez6337
    @noelrodriguez6337 2 года назад +1

    So I’m having a problem my winch doesn’t feed out wire but it feeds it in what can be the problem ?

    • @FMJeeping
      @FMJeeping  2 года назад

      I would check the switch or the solenoids. can you hear the motor turn on when you try and feed the direction that is not working?

    When I plug my switch in my winch begins to run

    • @FMJeeping
      @FMJeeping  2 года назад

      If it doesn't run by itself with the switch out. I would look at the switch or the connection for the switch. There is a short there somewhere.
