The NJ series is pretty good and affordable. Most are equipped with the EMG 81 and 85 pickups and also an Original Floyd Rose, all for less than $800 USA dollars (not too bad price). They realized they gotta compete with ESP, Jackson, and Dean mid-price range equipment; so they stepped up their game.

Ten years later, those bands were playing my local clubs again. The later half of the 90s was rough, but deeper in the underground, some cool stuff was happening. Europe was still going strong, but in US, these bands were booked with alternative acts just to sell club tickets.

Yeah, I was about to say "ironically Anthrax wasn't one of them," but then I went over to Wikipedia and checked out how their albums charted. Well, I was wrong because Anthrax sold way more records with their new singer way after I totally lost interest in them. Crazy that Among The Living peaked at 62 on the US Billboard chart, State of Euphoria got to 30, Persistence of Time hit 24...and then their first album with the new singer goes to 7 and that came out in 1995. However, that album really was the beginning of the end for them. Next album went to 47 and the one after that only 118. Then, they waited 5 years and only reached 123 with the next one. Last one with John Bush in 2004 didn't even chart. So, they waited until 2011 to get Joey back on vocals and they hit 12 on US Billboard chart. Next one with Joey again hit number 2. Firing Joey might have been the stupidest move they made?

Obviously "Master of puppets" did extremely well and Motorhead were already an established band by this point. All those other thrash bands as great as they might have been, were never going to get this kind of attention from MTV due to being to underground and specialist.

Thrash is still alive and well. There are still new generation of bands coming up with killer records. Evile, Havok, Toxic Holocaust, Suicidal Angels, Warbringer, Midnight, Bütcher... and the list goes on.

Yeah, fair point. I was only 1 or 2 when this was shot. I guess some people even now consider speed and thrash to be more or less synonymous. It's just really weird to think that those bands were actually considered DEATH metal back then.

@Buster Ellsworth Nah, not at all. My oldest told me thrash sounds old, she just prefers Jinjer and Woods of Ypres styles. The youngest daughter prefers hip hop but tolerates metal unless it's Nile or Morbid, she doesn't enjoy brutality.

It doesnt matter in how many four-chord songs about they make and how many cool sounds they can create artificially, it will never give the feeling good music written and played by good musicians gives you. Thats why pop music dies after 5 years and are replaced with new pop and why pop artists (i include glam here ;)) from the 80s are ashamed of what they did back then while people playing what they want and not what sells are not and are still doing just that and its still juse as awesome
