Thank you for your great videos. I've helped my friend repair hid 2.5NA on weekends during the winter and your videos have been our go to resource for knowledge.
WELL DONE AGAIN MIKE. ANOTHER EXCELLENT WELL EXPLAINED LESSON. IT'S BEEN A REAL SWELTER TODAY HERE IN BRISTOL UK 30C ! THAT'S A HEATWAVE FOR US! HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND MY FRIEND.
Hi Mike Im about to do the timing belt on a 2.5 na engine that the belt has snapped, but this engine has had some modifications ie tdi timing belt housing, tdi head, and the tdi injection pump as it has the hole in the pump for the pin, would placing the pin through the front of the injection have the same result as the way you done it? Any advise would be gratefully appreciated
Good video I have got a an original 200tdi Defender and is the timing belt tension the same as a Discovery 200tdi there doesn't seem to be a lot about the Defender 200tdi on RUclips thank you for replying to my other messages😁👍
You mentioned at 14:18 I had a right muppet change my timing belt for my 300 TDI. Honestly the guy was really singing his own praises when I was quizzing him prior to the job. He claimed to have worked on Colonel Khadaffi's Landrover Fleet back in the 1980s. They'd done other work on my lannie ok, but this was the real important one. Well he changed my timing belt alright, but forget to grease up the timing shaft!!!! I was driving it to Scotland and there was a distinct loss of power, but it made it back ok. I took it to someone who was and is a guru of Defenders who checked his work and he was gobsmacked a veteran mechanic would make such a retarded mistake on an important job. My friend said he had an utter nightmare fixing it as it had come loose or something but he managed to retighten in. He cautioned me that a lesser engine would have failed completely and that there was the risk of permanent loss of timing, there wasn't but it was a close run thing. I think it may have been deliberate, as this garage didn't like me doing fibreglass temporary repairs to get it through an MOT. I'll never go back there again.
Hey Mike, I REALLY hope you get a customer soon with problems on a 2.5L Petrol engine. There is so little video material available on the interweb about that engine. Would love to understand the ins and outs on that engine...
I have an original 200tdi 11l engine in my defender. Any tips for fitting the timing kit to this? Is it normal for the belt to sit touching one side of the guide on the tensioner? I have some interesting grooves in my cover from a previous belt 😔
Unfortunately I do not have any access to 200Tdi here - not seen one for years. It could be that the belt has been over tightened in the past and the belt housing is warped - this is common on the 300Tdi
I have not lost any belt thickness in 7 years so I don't think I need to worry too much, will check this with a straight edge and maybe the fip end float . I must say, watched all your content here in the UK. Helps me keep my 31 year old on the road.
Grazie e un po che seguo i tuoi video interessanti mi potresti aiutare non riesco a levare pompa c dal mio defender 12j aspirato magari con un video ciao

Hard to say without seeing it - sounds complicated - what Tdi parts were used?200Tdi?
Were those centre pistons on their way up or down?
Another great, informative video! I don’t even have an NA any more😂
I really enjoy your channel, though.👍
Keep up the good work
Thanks Richard!

let's see what h says -- I am sure it is not going to be a huge parts bill - it has to be something stupid

Did you ever have your old dial gauge checked if it's still showing the correct torque at all?
It is 100% tested against a digital unit
"Guzzling beer"
