  • Deleting Front Shocks on Tamiya Grasshopper RC Buggy made it extra classy.
    We're going to show the mod, how the shocks are replaced with hidden springs, and take it out for a ride on the beach!
    Big shoutout to @michaelianjohnson1351 for suggesting front shocks removal!

    The shock towers might be my favourite part of the Hornet look but I really like the sleek version you built here. Also, since it's a Hornet you can just do suspension mods like these. It's not like it'll make the handling any worse

    Years ago a friend was driving a grasshopper with another friend and I's super mod Blackfoots. The poor grasshopper was getting killed. I had to do the same fix on the fly to keep him running . Exept I used a leaf spring mounted across the front. The black banding steel for lumber bundles cut into thin strips made heavy duty six leaf bruiser leaf springs.

    • @ezrc7724
      @ezrc7724  Год назад +1

      Interesting! The leaf spring fix is creative! Thanks for commenting!

    • @Del350K4
      @Del350K4 Год назад +1

      I've actually thought about that black steel banding, and wondered whether it might be possible to use it to make leaf springs! As you handle it, you can tell it's spring steel.

      I've used the tines from a cheap metal rake. They're already thin. One rake can make a lot of springs!

      @@ericzajac5237 Good idea. Plenty of them there. Reminds me of the metal brushes on street sweepers I used to pick up. They always shed a few bristles here and there. I've pondered 1/24 Axial crawler leaf springs.

    Like other viewers, I usually prefer to see shock towers on a buggy like this, but this sleek look does have its merits as well. As someone menrioned, it can't make the handling any worse, as the Grasshopper is a bouncy car anyway, unless fitting better (real) shocks. Just wondering how the suspension arms will hold up, as these are now used in a different way from the original design

    How does the car handle overall afterwards? I thought that looked way too bouncy to work on a hornet but it looks like you're running a 540 motor instead of the stock 380.

    • @ezrc7724
      @ezrc7724  6 месяцев назад +1

      The motor I used is a brushless 540, way overpowered. The mod could add to the bounciness but that’s fun too. I have more modern buggies for better handling but they’re uneventful in a sense. This thing bounces like crazy and full of drama and that’s partly why it exists at all. Thanks for commenting, cheers!

    Surely this will just lead to fatigue cracks in the sprung wishbone that wasn’t designed to just bend all the time?

    • @ezrc7724
      @ezrc7724  Год назад +1

      You're probably right, the wishbone is not designed to do this, so it's a legitimate reliability concern. But it seems to be made of soft plastic as I find it quite pliable so I'm not too worried. Thanks for commenting, cheers!

    Shocks on rc cars are bullshit and most racers use bushings not bearings for the wheels. Id prefer a wishbone instead of a spring and oil chamber...indy car made some cars with no suspension and it performed better then the other cars staying on the road.
