Late to the party, I know, but I've just bought one of these and used it for the first time. Absolutely brilliant, dried the whole car in no time without streaks or scratches. Yes, it feels more like using the old chamois leather, but I am not even remotely worried about, as you say, "pulling dirt around". That can only happen if you haven't washed the car properly and I am confident I have done that so no problem on that score. In general, Autoglym stuff just works so I am happy using their products for most things, but not all. I use quite a few Turtle Wax products and Rain.X too.
I'm a car washer and use it to swipe the most of quick and then follow with a quick fibre wipe 😉. When I wash 8 cars a day it's very handy cause you use it over and over again! Saves half for the washing machine and the fibres last longer that way! Super product! 💪👍👌👌
I have an instadry , and I really like it. I’ve never really got on with using microfibre for drying, but they may just be down to poor choice of towels. Good review as always though
Ive used one of those towels for a few months. They are brilliant for when we’ve got a bunch of sold cars that need to be washed. (Typically 15-20 in a morning) 1 towel can do that easily and as you mentioned if I was using a microfibre towel I would need a fresh towel every couple of cars. I’ve not noticed any marring or at least no worse than some of the ‘premium’ offerings. I’ve been using it with a few sprays of Enigma QED whilst drying and been easy to use. Great for glass and door shuts if nothing else. Not sure if they have hit retail yet but trade guys should be able to pick them up from reps at around £5-7
nice to see thanks ACW, exactly what you said when you have car after car after car and you need a tool that can be used all day is exactly where I think this product works and maybe thats what/who its for. definetly less of a scene tool for individual cars.. at least thats how I see it.
Monster Munch, Rolled up Jeans and Slippers. You sir are a legend. I'd give it a go on my car without much concern. I've always got a load of microfibres kicking around. It'll be interesting to see how long it lasts and whether it starts to break down after a certain amount of washes.
Could be useful for drying glass, although from a detailing perspective I think it's uses are limited. For the valeters, it looks like a useful bit of kit. Especially the fact it can be used over and over again. Another good review 👍
I really liked this towel after I learned how to use it. To me the stiffness compared to microfiber was a big plus. Easy to dry The wheelarches and lower parts of the body. It glides to me quite easily, and doesn't apply pressure on The paint, as thick and super absobrant microfiber towels do as they get heavy when wet. But I believe to be a bit bias, as I like the old school shammy. But I will alsoo give a go to the King Carthurs huge towel, I have heard a lot of good feedback from those.
PVA...basically the same thing as The Absorber or any synthetic chamois. It's suuuuuuuuuper absorbant but quite abrasive and doesn't hide away dirt like a microfiber does.
Looks very similar to the Klin Korea Green Monster. Much better at cleaning greasy, oily, filthy areas than drying. Particularly good for the back of wheel spokes.
I've used these in the past (but not this brand) and they are relatively ok for the most part. Not perfect but they can get the job done and typically last a long time when properly cared for.
Can see this appealing to the rapid car washes but not so much for the detailers. It almost feels that Autoglym are still stuck in the past and are looking at the next level of synthetic chamois. I wonder if the material used for this towel is the same vileda use for their mops? I do worry about autoglym as a brand as I see so many better products on the market and they are getting left behind imo. Great video as always! And happy New year to you.
Bought one of these on a whim the other day, I think I'll only use it on glass, and maybe on a car that I've fully decontaminated before sealing, as it really does remind me of a chamois - I suspect it'd strip wax off like a chamois does - maybe not so much ceramic but I don't think I'd risk it.
It does look more like a shammy. As a weekend warrior maintaining only my car and sometimes the missis her car, I think i'll stick to a good microfibre drying towel. Maybe a pro detailer or a carwash might see more benefit for this. Nice video as always mate.
Nice vid, I will give this towel a miss, it looks like a chamois leather. Anyway spent my allowance this month on tac system moonlight and gyeon wet coat, thanks for the advice. Keep up the great vids.
The hat looks good on you mate. That autoglym towel looks rough especially dry, i will stick to a softer microfiber, even though it's a pain in the ass to squeeze the water out. About your future coating, i always told myself that if i ever do a ceramic coating, i would use a one-layer coating that has good water repellency and not sensible to water spot. Thank to your test, it seems that car pro cquartz uk would be the best in that case. After that, just use a quick detailer specific for ceramic coating like car pro reload to dry and maintain the protection. Anything with a base layer, then a topper coating to avoid water spot and improve hydrophobicity, then a quick detailer, etc... That just sound like so much work. I already struggle to apply a sealant with all the steps before, so i can't see myself interested in such a task.
CQUK is a harder coating to work with in the same way gyeon pure is harder to work with.. You could try britemax amtheyst which is smoother but seems good as well. I think perhaps I need to do like a comparison of single product coatings next or something.. I agree layering these mofo things up is a serious amount of work. So yer single layer coating + maintainance topper seems a bit more like normal... stay tune to the channel because I want to talk about some other options soon.

@@ForensicDetailing Well i agree it can be done financialy only through his company, and since he is testing pressure washers to offer solution for adding different gun and hoses solution, it makes sense for him. In your case, it could be more about what specs should be looked at for detailing purposes and house work. Just got one in a new autoglym kit. Feels weird straight out of the box. Had to look up how to use it Ffs 🤣 Thanks for the info and review. I look forward to getting it wet. 👍🏻
I instantly wondered why not just use a chamois but I can see that these are better. I think I may buy one just to try it out as I am washing multiple cars at the same time now so the multi usage capabilities could be useful.
Looks to be like " The Absorber" . It came out about 15 years ago. Same PVA drying cloth. It does work well but like you I won't put it on flawless paint.
Nice review. Not used this product but it sounds like it might be good for glass and plastic where there is less chance of inflicting scratches. Of course one could argue that if the car has been washed really well, there wouldn't be any dirt left on the surface to cause scratches. I wouldn't trust myself to be that perfect though.
This is a trade product and not for the home detailer. It’s built for unlimited usage and it really is as simple as that. Most of us, myself inc, used, don’t see a place for this on the shelf, however it will be very popular within the valeting trade.
thats kind of how I see it, exactly what you said, unlimited usage all day long quickly getting the majority of the water off the car, wringing it out going again. a soft microfiber towel for one car just allows to perhaps to get things bone dry and soak up water in other places. so like I say even though its not for me, I can see that autoglym also have trade users with totally different requirements.
Seems to be a nice towel but it is more or less like those suede towels that I have been using for 25 years now (and I am 37yo) that you are trying to dry the car and they stick to the panels and roll up etc. I can still used a good quality suede towel that are made in Japan (only one I use today) but I wont use it as much today as I use microfibre towels because they are easier to work with. And more efficient for me. Cheers
yer me 2 I feel the same. Its a tool that there, and some people below are using it and getting good value from it. But its a microfiber towel for me to dry the cars. In fact its the warp knitt ones that I think are perhaps the coolest because they just cant stick down.
Finally got around to using this following your video review. I like it, quick and easy to use, did the job quite well. I haven't much experience of a decent towel though so nothing to compare experiences to.
I think i will stick with Microfibre, another thing is whats this new ceramic coating launched in the UK by MAYVINCI ? what new technology has this to existing ceramic coatings? Jon you are about the only one i trust to do a review on these new products.
Well this was some dry humor. Thanks for the honest advice though. I used to have one of these “magic water magnets” which worked like a charm. Pun intended. Until the misses though it be a good idea to wash it with some softener. And poof! The magic was gone.
@@ForensicDetailing It really does have a "kick" and pretty solid. It even survived being in my rinse water for a while. Dried it out and still worked. Really wouldn't be without it now.
Haven't used it but seems to have the same issues as the shammy. I use liquid element silverback xl and pat-dry my car for added "safety margin" since i have a black car. If im detailing a car i use standard waffle weave and drag-dry it because the car is 100% clean. Also if any light marring will occur im going to polish it anyway
Hi,another product by Auto Glym, that was a good review, this cloth seems ideal after washing your car, probably better than a leather, I would buy and try it out, no problem.
Another good video Jon. A very strange looking product that doesn't appeal to me in the slightest. I will definitely stick with my faithful Klin Korea duo drying towel instead!
Great vlog Jon, I won't be rushing to Halfords to buy one though, seems like an off - shoot of their synthetic chamois AG have out there and I was never a fan of that back in the day. I prefer my micro fibre drying towels at the moment. I have a Bigboi blow dryer and still in the early stages of usage I find it leaves a lot of water marks when drying which is a little puzzling so not sure if this is a hard water issue after rinsing car so may need to invest in a 0ppm filter hooked up to my outside tap at some point. Would welcome your / anyone else's thoughts on that. Cheers 👍
Great video. I actually had one of the first ones from AutoGlyn as I was on the testing team. As you say its very different to a MF towel but its every part as good, the plus point is if you are washing more than one car in a day its much better. I disagree with the dirt comments, if you have washed your car properly then there should be no dirt. I never used it to do the lower sills etc anyhow as I have a specific older towel to dry them and the shuts. All in all its a brilliant product over the course of using it for a good 6 months no damage was done to the paint and it didnt affect the protection that was on the car (wax over 3 layers of Zaino) to me the fulffy MF fan-bois will probably troll me to death now but you asked for opinions from people that actually used it and I am one :)
thats great nick, I kind of agree but I dont have as much experience with it. Its like so many things some peeps will like some wont, some will some love some will hate, but its different and like you say provides a trade option which is very economical.
@@ForensicDetailing Oh yeah 100% agree but people should deffo try it before the usual bashing it (like some have already done) they are brilliant in winter when you just want to get the car washed and dried quick :) Oh and if you keep a regular builders bucket full of warm water you can rinse it out, wring it and its warm and works really really well! Keep up the great work on the videos Jon!
It's a good point, but even an experienced detailer can miss bits when washing. Good to know you found it didn't strip wax as I too like to use wax over ceramic and as soon as I picked this up I thought "oh, feels a bit like a chamois, and they strip wax". I think I'll follow your advice and try this out on the upper surfaces of the car where I'm confident I'm not likely to pick anything up and drag it, and stick with my old microfibre for the rest.
I know them in really well, when they took over there main building, where Blake’s used to be, I did all the electrical work in there, and back last summer my neighbor drive right off his drive way and right in to the back of my golf, so I took it to them and they sorted it, only place I know that takes out the glass when they repair and spray the boots, they are very good, I always recommend them to friends
yer was blakes for years :) harry and tom ran another business in there, after a while I just used to go to them first because they would always sort me out. Its nice to see their business doing well they have added the alloy wheel side to it in the main shop. such good people to deal with as well which is rare, front of house is superb but they also keep the workshop in a really good state its a cool setup they have for this.
Good new year to you Jon. I took delivery of Hydrosilex Recharge a few days ago and tried it on an old 2004 Yaris bonnet. Worked exactly as described. Very easy to apply, and if it gets 6 months, I'll be happy. Have you tried it yet? Interested in your thoughts.
Ive just seen too many products nowadays and I can spot the origins of stuff. that and the price point versus what it is puts me off.. but good luck to them..
Lovely Jubbly, thanks for another great informative vlog, good to see your car back to. Do you have a heater in your garage, it's not t-shirt weather yet?
I have little heater paul. but luckily for me I have a naturally muscular physique and the extreme muscle tone mass insults all the vital organs.. I dont like to talk about this obviously because intimidating to normal guys.
It reminds me of those gym towels you can get, like what the Olympic divers use between dives. I’ll most likely stick to using microfibre. Maybe stitching this product into the middle of a microfibre cloth might make a good product?
Good review jon.i feel the same as you.i won't buy it going to stick with the fluffy microfiber and air to dry the car.i like the colour of you alloy wheels.i only got a quick look at them they look dark gray ish.they look good.
cheers cliff yer I went with light anthracite, its got some nice fleck and can light up a bit more in sunlight but darker in lesss light.. pretty happy with the color
Well you will soon see, it DOES live up to the hype! For us in the U.S. its $32.00 a gallon, stupid cheap. FWIW I've used it 4 times already, in various ways and I can tell you the gloss level is crazy, especially after its cured. Looks great when applied and then a small miracle happens!
@@klasseact6663 Sounds good.. Just can't get hold of any in the UK at the moment. It does seem really well priced and if it's as good as you say then it has to worth having some in the armoury 👍
@@jimmycoleman1607 Motorgeek sells it in the UK although it's out of stock at the moment. Prestige will start selling it on the 11th www.prestigecarcareshop.com/products/p-s-bead-maker-paint-protectant I still think that Sonax BSD is the winner with Soft99 Luxury Gloss being a close second. Both are more readily available and cheaper (specially BSD).
While I wouldn't use this at home it might be useful for cars shows/meets (cars&coffee) if it rains and you just want to quickly go over your car to dry it off. Don't really want a bag full of wet microfiber towels sitting in my boot all day.
5th element, be carefull with over curing.. use tiny amounts of product and like work half the hood and buff within 2 minutes. very good durabilty and repellency on this wax but can be harder to apply than some of the other AW waxes.. when you have buffed the entire car get a clean fresh buffing cloth and go back over it with some corona or QED and just make sure its all buffed properly. you will like the jelly beans on the bonnet the next time it rains and you are driving.
Thanks for all your advice Jon. It’s much more enjoyable having the right products and a well prepared car worth the effort when you’ve finished. You’ve been a great help so thanks again.
we have had this one at work sence October i think before they started selling it because we are 1 of Autoglyms dealers in Norway but i always tought this was just some weird chamois with some kind of hairs like a microbiber cloth but still felt very much like a chamois
The advantage i can see with this is you can rinse it out easily if it becomes saturated. Disadvantage like you said it doesnt have a fluffy pile on it so could put scratches on the paint like a leather chamois. I'd stick with the KKD silverback. Used it whilst cleaning the car in the cold (so non of the water evaporated) and it works well.
to be honest i wouldnt use this for my own car, but i dont feel like using it on my work either because i love using the Microfiber Madness drying towels i've never seen any swirls or scratches and i do drag them over the cars that i detail because on work i cant be taking 15 minutes to dry a car. and i can imagine that if you use that technique over a full year on the same car it might have some very light swirls but they are so minimal that any finishing polish will take those swirls out, and i polish my car once a year to bring up the gloss so ye for me there isnt really a point in switching to this.
Not used this latest offering, but the old one (yellowish in colour about the same price) was probably not as good as what I use now ( I cannot remember the name gorilla or silverback). Will send one over to John so he can see how far they have or have not come.
Hey Juan, its just because its red and its not that old. the car paintwork has like marks all over it, its not like immaculate. it looks like great just when you wash it, it had some base sealant on it when I bought it. Ill polish the car up soon and actually coat it or somehting.. but most cars this old look great on camera.
I feel Autoglym has been victim of discrimination in the modern pro-sumer segment, like a generational gap thing. Definitely some good products but will admit I have none of it in my armoury.
hey shaun I think its a must have for me. the only thing is my one is a bit of a pain, its a bit bit and heavy and im not sure I need it to have this much power. Im gonna look into smaller ones.
really nice family business, very good setup they have as well. this power coat and gloss they did on the m140 is really good.. they did the blend repair on the 140 front bumper was really good as well.
can you imagine though brand new paint job anthracite, and then like light silver looking weights.. just looks wrong :( If your paint shop wont paint them you could jsut ask for some extra coating weights and rattle can them as close as you can to the wheel color.. I think I would always do this. I actually really only trust the body shop that did this to fit a new tyre as well. so ill prolly ask them to do my tyres for me when they are due as well.. too many times had paint stripped out near the nutz from impact guns and stuff.
I have had something very close to this cloth for a years now, Im wondering if anyone else has a (REDLINE) magazine drying cloth from the late 90s, same but yellow wetsuit material.
Another great video John! PVA towels are great to dry cars however like you mentioned it causes excessive drag on the paint work I’ve the “DRINKER TOWEL”and stopped using it for the same reasons of the use of the water blade. For me microfibre drying towel or rinse with DI water, not with air I can’t take the looks of the neighbours while I’m holding a leaf blower 😂
throw away item means you use and throw it away. this you can use and re-use hundreds of times and it can also be machine washed. no idea why autoglym are saying that. does not make sense.
Another great video, thank you Sir. Out of interest do you have a detailing business? Just asking as I'd like to get my lotus detailed this year by someone who knows what there doing. (Sorry if this question has been asked before )
no mate, I would check out PVD website which has a lookup facility to locate different options in your area, you can search via criteria, like studio or mobile, ceramic coating or even by creditation i think as well.
Doesn’t really sell it to me to be honest if I was to get one of these it would probably be for glass it looks abit risky to me because there’s nothing to absorb any dirt that may be left after washing
i would op for a turbo blower...although 3 times the price...the longivity for instadry material is not lasting too...3 times the price i can turbo dry my car dry with ease...
@@ForensicDetailing I’ve got one laying about that I used a couple times for cleaning glass because Epic Car Show preaches about them, but wouldn’t put it near the paint I don’t think 🤷♂️

I instantly wondered why not just use a chamois but I can see that these are better. I think I may buy one just to try it out as I am washing multiple cars at the same time now so the multi usage capabilities could be useful.
The god of all detailing snacks MONSTER MUNCH 😁
Jon you are about the only one i trust to do a review on these new products.
clevo351 It doesn’t have any new technology. It’s no different to any other ceramic.
Well this was some dry humor.
Thanks for the honest advice though.
I used to have one of these “magic water magnets” which worked like a charm.
Pun intended. Until the misses though it be a good idea to wash it with some softener. And poof! The magic was gone.
I'll certainly get a couple Jon as I'm a mobile valeter. I have loads of differing micro drying towels as well as a Sidekick air drier.
whats that side kick like douglas, how much grunt does it have?
@@ForensicDetailing It really does have a "kick" and pretty solid. It even survived being in my rinse water for a while. Dried it out and still worked. Really wouldn't be without it now.
I'm a fan of my sidekick. Use it every car wash to blow out around trim, mirrors etc. Especially valuable when it's cold outside.
I also buy my own non steel wheel weights that don't rust and take it with me every time my wheel need to be balanced. A detailers must have product.
PVA is used in the layup of fiberglass boats, not sure if it's the same.stuff. Polyvinyl acetate
@@ForensicDetailing I have the same advantage except my extreme muscle mass tone is concentrated around my belly👍😅
Another good video 👍 looking forward to the P&S Bead maker video, want to see what all the hype is about!!?
Prestige will start selling it on the 11th www.prestigecarcareshop.com/products/p-s-bead-maker-paint-protectant
I still think that Sonax BSD is the winner with Soft99 Luxury Gloss being a close second. Both are more readily available and cheaper (specially BSD).
@@jimmycoleman1607 how crazy is the shipping to you guys for it?
@@klasseact6663 Noone I've emailed will ship to the UK at the moment
While I wouldn't use this at home it might be useful for cars shows/meets (cars&coffee) if it rains and you just want to quickly go over your car to dry it off. Don't really want a bag full of wet microfiber towels sitting in my boot all day.
Is it then like the Autoglym Chamois, just an improvement, for I've used their Chamois and it feels more like a cloth and Chamois hybrid
I’ll be breaking out my pot of The Fifth Element next month looking forward to see how it compares to DSW.
Does it damage your coating?
we have had this one at work sence October i think before they started selling it because we are 1 of Autoglyms dealers in Norway but i always tought this was just some weird chamois with some kind of hairs like a microbiber cloth but still felt very much like a chamois
Hi. They have been about for years in America for years they cost about 5 Dollars in Walmart they are great.
to be honest i wouldnt use this for my own car, but i dont feel like using it on my work either because i love using the Microfiber Madness drying towels i've never seen any swirls or scratches and i do drag them over the cars that i detail because on work i cant be taking 15 minutes to dry a car. and i can imagine that if you use that technique over a full year on the same car it might have some very light swirls but they are so minimal that any finishing polish will take those swirls out, and i polish my car once a year to bring up the gloss so ye for me there isnt really a point in switching to this.
I’ve got one of these - it performs pretty well, but yeah, it was a bit of a mind f**k at first with the texture of it 😂
Not used this latest offering, but the old one (yellowish in colour about the same price) was probably not as good as what I use now ( I cannot remember the name gorilla or silverback). Will send one over to John so he can see how far they have or have not come.
Great video another good product by auto glym
Your car looks amazing is your car ceramic coated
Or is it waxed
And if so which product did you use
Hey Juan, its just because its red and its not that old. the car paintwork has like marks all over it, its not like immaculate. it looks like great just when you wash it, it had some base sealant on it when I bought it. Ill polish the car up soon and actually coat it or somehting.. but most cars this old look great on camera.
I feel Autoglym has been victim of discrimination in the modern pro-sumer segment, like a generational gap thing. Definitely some good products but will admit I have none of it in my armoury.
Would be great for using on your glass and a then twist loop for the paint.
What’s your thoughts on the air blowing machines? Been looking at them don’t no if it’s worth it?
hey shaun I think its a must have for me. the only thing is my one is a bit of a pain, its a bit bit and heavy and im not sure I need it to have this much power. Im gonna look into smaller ones.
Forensic Detailing Channel cheers for reply! I’ve been looking at www.cardryers.co.uk/Sidekick-Car-Dryer.php just can’t find any decent reviews
Chi cars sorted my golf out, top job as always, they are good boys
really nice family business, very good setup they have as well. this power coat and gloss they did on the m140 is really good.. they did the blend repair on the 140 front bumper was really good as well.
Wheel wait OCD 😂😂😂😂love it
can you imagine though brand new paint job anthracite, and then like light silver looking weights.. just looks wrong :( If your paint shop wont paint them you could jsut ask for some extra coating weights and rattle can them as close as you can to the wheel color.. I think I would always do this. I actually really only trust the body shop that did this to fit a new tyre as well. so ill prolly ask them to do my tyres for me when they are due as well.. too many times had paint stripped out near the nutz from impact guns and stuff.
A bit like Vileda's very own Flunky, I've been using them on glass for years.
I have had something very close to this cloth for a years now, Im wondering if anyone else has a (REDLINE) magazine drying cloth from the late 90s, same but yellow wetsuit material.
Can u do me a favor and paint the top of your walls 😂😂😂 great video!
Thanks for the vid...this seems to be a step back to the 90th....not for me....greetings from Germany
I like air with a good rag from TRC (The Rag Company). That product is too similar to my use of Chamois years ago.
It's classed as a throw away item Autoglym say. Already had a replacement from Autoglym
throw away item means you use and throw it away. this you can use and re-use hundreds of times and it can also be machine washed. no idea why autoglym are saying that. does not make sense.
Thanks for the info Sir
Doesn’t really sell it to me to be honest if I was to get one of these it would probably be for glass it looks abit risky to me because there’s nothing to absorb any dirt that may be left after washing
Mmmm...monster munch
:)
Good video. I will give ita miss and stick with microfibre clothes.
Same here
i would op for a turbo blower...although 3 times the price...the longivity for instadry material is not lasting too...3 times the price i can turbo dry my car dry with ease...
For anyone that keep shouting microfiber is better. Chamois still the king of streak free for windows.
Jon I sent you a video on FB messenger of the Sidekick in action.
cheers douglas, I think it just took a long time to transfer the video but I can see it now. cheers m8 apprecaite it.
Can you do nine cars.
Is this similar to the kent car synthetic chamois?
Not sure m8
@@ForensicDetailing I’ve got one laying about that I used a couple times for cleaning glass because Epic Car Show preaches about them, but wouldn’t put it near the paint I don’t think 🤷♂️
Have you tried their hi tech water blade?
no I wont use a water blade to dry my car... been there done that. I know theres demand for them as a trade tool but I wont use them.
I was thinking it may mar the paintwork if it picked up a foreign material . Cheers!
There's far better drying towels out there. Good video non the less.
Reminds me of the Ardex Water Sprite
Not convinced to be honest... I’ll stick to blow drying and then the microfibre drying towel. I think my black paint will be crucified... 🤔💨
Nope not for me, I use an air blower followed by a MF with QD to dry the car... but you do need good protection to use air effectively.
I prefer your toro blower.
Monster munch sandwich . Om nomnom lol
I'll stick with my water blade. Opps sorry meant microfiber towel.
@Delta Romeo to be honest I think as long as the surface is clean they were not too bad. I prefered the blade over my chamios leather. Moved over to MF drying towels years ago though. We all live and learn.

Good for glass, end of 👍🏽
Thats what I was thinking, would like to have some nap on it incase of contamination etc
