They were good but I wouldn’t even consider putting them in the spot of “best thrash band ever”. Maybe like 15-20th best thrash band. They still rocked though.
@@waltysalamander i would put them in the top 10. They have a lil influence on death metal and early Sepultura was aggressive af. Almost no one can touch prime Sepultura in terms of aggression, speed and thrashiness. Im not talking about popularity, i just talking about the characteristic of thrash metal which is heavy riffs, speed and aggression, and Sepultura has more of that compared to their peers.
Love both Slayer and old sepultura I've seen both in concert and it was close but man Slayer the best longevity isn't even close between the two you could say the same as I do for Metallica they sold out Derrick is not a good fit for sepultura they should of got Phil from Pantera.
And don’t forget, all this was played in E-standard tuning with 6-string guitars and is heavy as fuck. Compare that to current metal bands who have 8-strings and tune down an octave to “sound heavy” and end up sounding like an alpaca having a severe case of diarrhoea.
This video is just amazing, it's spectacular to watch them play those riffs at almost double the speed they were from the album all while jumping and flailing around on stage. These motherfuckers knew how to make a metal show awesome!
I get really sad when I think about Max and Andreas, why cant they get along? THIS BAND WAS AMAZING! I've read Max's biography and I really feel for him..Just hoping for a reunion down the road.

He's not so great anymore... age catches everyone.. Lombardo still hasn't missed a beat in all these years.. He's absolutely fantastic.. In 2000 I had bought Testements new cd and thought I"d listen to it for the first time taking a flight to Mardi Gras. I really liked that one more than well any other one that they put out.. I listened to that one for a decade before I read the cover.. wanna guess who played the drums? Lombardo! He's the reason they sounded so damn good.. You can't say the same about Igor. Igor is fantastic and was in they're hay day one of the best out there.. He wasn't good enough to have the strong staying power Lombardo had though.

All on vhs and had to spend countless minutes rewinding and fast forwarding so we could hear our favorite song… I love the intro to arise at this gig then the way they speed up Arise

Slayer was one of the "founding fathers" of thrash metal but Old Sepultura was better.
Even Slayer cant touch old Sepultura, and im a big fan of Slayer. Prime Sepultura is faster, more aggressive and more thrashy.
