Igors performance on Arise really turned this band into something special. His china use and the drum fill in Dead Embryonic fills were like lightning bolts to me as a kid. Inspired

Kurwa, I love it. As a 12 years old New Kids on The Block fan, I've heard Sepultura on the radio and the world stopped. Very next day I brought home ARISE on tape cassette. That was violent but smooth transition to metal. Today I am 40 and not regret it!!! \m/
I think he still writes, but Marc Rizzo is the best thing to happen to Soulfly, but the worst thing to happen to Max. It made him rely on Marc for everything. Sad seeing a guitar used as a prop piece 😔
The production overall on Arise is outstanding but the drums holy shit. Perfection!!!!! I had the cassette when I was maybe 9 and it blew me away. Still does
I was 12 when this was filmed. Little did I know that by the time I was 42 I would have achieved my dream of becoming a middle manager able to afford a reasonably priced family saloon vehicle.

They really came into their own around this time, but my favourite era will always be Morbid Visions because I was there when that came out and it was great.
Wow, this video proves that its not what kind of drum kit or guitar rig you have...look at Igor's kit. A bent up high hat, a couple cymbals and 3 drums (forgive me for not knowing specific names, I'm not a good drummer), and yet, he still sounds beastly. You cannot replicate badassery.
@Rotti-X : Why not? He's absolutely right. But just because we get better gear doesn't magically change who we are. Just be true to yourself, play from your heart and soul, no matter what your gear, or even your instrument. Really, it's the easiest thing in the world if you just let go of the fear of being yourself. What Jason said is the one thing that makes any and every great artist great, because there will always always be someone _"better"._ But I'm telling you, if you're playing just to be considered _better_ than the _others,_ then you're missing the point. But if you stay true to being yourself, becoming great becomes more than just a possibility, it's within your grasp then. Edit: And gratz on the new kit! Getting new gear is always extra inspirational, not gonna lie. Just remember to see past that to what it is *you* do with the gear that is what matters most.
this reminds me of my best buddy who died in 2004 of heart attack at 26 yo. we were 2 in his bedroom in 2000 watching videos of all our fav Metal bands and of course Sepultura was one of them. he said, "one day, i'll have Max's guitar" to which i replied "i'll be your Iggor then". and we started to save money for that. End of 2001, we finally had the money and made our trip to Music store to buy our gear. BC Rich "Max's shape" for him and a Pearl kit for me. i'll always remember that specific crazy sound he had with this guitar because he had special strings. extra thick gauge and slick. he could get ultra low end without giving too much slack to the strings. he didn't like soft mushy grooved strings. and his strings were eliminating the zip zap sound from fingers sliding over. it sounded so clean and precise. whe we played Sepultura songs, it was sounding different but so nice at the same time. it was matching really well. men, i miss him so much. but, people who are obese, please seek help and lose that weight. it will kill you soon or late. he died because of that. cheers Metal fellas.
Sepultura is a really big influence for my drumming. Before I heard them I was listening to bands like Metallica, Guns n Roses, Pantera etc, then a friend gave me a listen to the Arise album and I was blown away. Igor's drumming style is amazing, very tribal influenced, very raw (especially with this drum fills). Definitely in my top 3 alongside the likes of Pete Sandoval and Dave Lombado.
Criminals in Uniform (CIU), the music that was supposed to be in the Arise album but never came out... Only in 1996, in a double Roots Cd Edition we (the Public) were allowed to hear this masterpiece. It was in the Arise Sessions but (I don't know why) it was never included in that 1991 Album. Amazing song, although here the video is cut. This Was Sepultura. Que Diferença meu Deus, para mim, acabaram em 1993 com o Chaos A. D., o último álbum de jeito deles. Obrigadão, valeu!!!
Although the addition of Andreas Kisser was a turning point mussicaly, I think another important step for Sep was the grand improvement of Igor's drumming...
This is wonderful. Epic band in those days. So underrated for what they did for death metal. Just stupid good. Music, concepts album covers everything. Their Guitar tone is iconic. It really is. They made Marshall's sound like rectifiers in the 80s. Crazy

Amazed at the fact that Igor was a novice playing drums at this time, even when he already recorded three albums and had been playing for over 6 years.

Igor. My first inspiration when starting drums at the age of 14.

George Kollias gave some love and justice fortunately.
It's easy to forget how young these guys were when they started. Max would be 19 or 20 here. Extremely talented and probably underrated by most.
max is ultra underrated as a guitarrist. Super precise rythn guitar, which is not easy at all when you play that fast.
