True, saw both Soulfly and Sepultura in 1999, when they had only replaced Max. Both couldn't hold a candle to the real Sepultura. Max' wife was their manager i believe. That may work in the beginning stages, but it's a very bad idea when things get serious. When the big money starts coming in.

The Inner Self intro remains absolutely killer as the same with the rest of song. Impossible to take off from the mind. The Sepultura playing live was completely technical, fast and brutal. In the specific case of this presentation and this song, I think it was better and faster than the studio version. Classic indestructible.

Growing up in the same city as Sepultura I was 7-8 years old at the time of this TV show. By then I had a couple of albums from Iron Maiden (my dad got them for me because I liked the drawings with Eddie), and that had put me on a journey to discover all sorts of more traditional metal bands... But as a kid and with no internet, my interest and exposure was super limited! And that's the context in which I remember listening some songs from Beneath the Remains and realizing Sepultura was a local band! The brutal rhythm, perfect guitar tones and squealling pinch harmonics felt to me like someone took my limited references (Maiden, Priest) and cranked it up 200%. I wouldn't discover Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, etc for a few years still and when I finally did, they all felt derivative. I never loved Sepultura's vocals (my references were Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford) but early Sepultura's guitar work and music made an impression on me that lasts to this day: they have the best guitar tones for Metal, ever. If you pay close attention you'll hear Max Cavalera and Andreas Kisser doing dives like Dimebag Darrel, low drop D pinch harmonics like Zakk Wylde and unusual harmonies/compositional choices like Chuck Schuldiner and some of those things likely before or in paralell (in my perspective) to some of those more famous artists in North America.
Great comment, i can tell you are a guitarist. Its cool that you mentioned that Max wasnt your favorite singer and also mentioned Chuck, who also had a growling type of singing. Chuck's guitar work in Death is so ahead of his time, so amazing, it has influenced countless bands and players.

@@fungus_am0nguz644 Chuck was awesome. It's a shame he was taken away so young. His guitar prowess and creativity influenced a couple of generations and continues to do so. @@Jack_Rivet you got that right! That's very accurate and continues to be the case for the state of Minas Gerais, Goiás and other nearby farming states. Sepultura's first EP, Bestial Remains, was shared with Overdose and recorded by a local record, Cogumelo, which was also a music store in Belo Horizonte where the headbangers used to hang out. Полу-русские братья сделали мою юность
So amazingly coreect!!! So glad they had extra sucess for two more records.
Back when Sepultura was Sepultura, not just a cover band like these days.
They’re playing this at a way faster tempo. Sounds sick man! 🔥🔥
Holy shit man.. now that was fn brutal.. I miss this shit so much.. that's the sepultura I know and love so much.. they will NEVER top this.. so good..
🤘😈🤘
Awesome performance, this is what gained them max respect 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
Magia pura. Sem palavras. Até as novinhas rebolando 😅
😂
Макс, Игорь навсегда!
Ese es el Clásico Sepultura!!! Espectacular.
The True SEPULTURA!!!
Cheers & Stay Brutal!!!
Im 51 and Max is the reason i play guitar. First time i heard inner self, i wanted to play guitar like that.
Na época, a mídia brasileira tentava entender tudo isso!!! 😅😅😅😅
Good ol Sepultura!!
