One theory was that the powers that make up ther GOP establishment was trying to "snooker" the American public and theat they forced Palin on McCain, knowing that she was clueless, unconnected, ignorant about so many things including politics, history, geography, etc etc. The GOP wanted a "woman" on the ticket to compete directly against Hillary. And a woman governor they believed would be ideal, I guess they didn't realize until it was too late - clearly there hadn't been any other qualified woman in the in the U.S. to be McCains's running mate . (??????????) . An insult ....to the American public. And here we go again, it seems, but times 1000.
+rande stuart Probably something Palin would say ===> 'Well, in the great history of America, there has been many times that's be ushered in both at a state and federal level. I do not feel like the passage of time is relevant as every state is different, including Alaska. But I still have a great appreciation for America's time.

And our government hasnt really been doing this for all this time and im hoping to make a change you know you can see you know and sometime if i were to be elected I would build our country a stronger platform for it to stand on such as pro life and better living entirely ya know.
@@xshxr He has a point. Comparing Trump to McCain is a little misleading because McCain was going up against a 47 year old juggernaut in Obama who was the fifth youngest President ever. McCain was 72 at the time and the only other President to be close to that age at the start of their Presidency since the 1800s was Reagan who was like 6 days away from 70 when he was inaugurated. Trump on the other hand was going up against Hillary and Biden who are both comparable in age. The age issue was a huge issue for McCain. It's why he picked a 44 year old Palin along with the hope that she would help bring in the woman vote. He obviously didn't pick her for a strategic electoral bonus like Obama did with Biden and his roots in PA along with him being white.
i loved mccain in 2000, but he was never going to win that election in 2008. The country was anti war and all he kept talking about was doing a surge, and at the same time couldnt criticize bush for the economic crash. Even if he had picked Leiberman the loss would have been the same
He was incumbent party during economic calamity - he was to lose anyway. Palin - actually bumped his polls and fundraising. She helped foretell the Trump story....
She had an (R) after her name on the ballot. It's that simple and that tragic at the same time. Tragic in that she made it as far as she did politically without the least bit of ability ~ just that magic (R).

Conservatives are great, aren't they? On the one hand they want the government to stay out of every thing and keep its hands off the economy, health care, and everything else because its about "Personal Liberty" and "Personal Choice" and that needs to be protected. Then they flip and say things like the Government absolutely must step in and ban abortion and deny every woman the right to make that choice for herself. Then you ask them, well okay, what about the government stepping in and doing gun control to prevent about 35,000 Americans a year from dying by gun violence? Then they flip back and say that the government must stay out of that because of "personal Liberty" and an individual's right to own guns. My question is why does a woman not have the "personal Liberty' and "Personal Choice" to choose to have an abortion if she wants one? If it is her body why should it not be her "Personal choice" and her call?

This is a basic question that to me was a softball question. It seemed that every time they lobbed one over to her, instead of hitting it out of the park it turned into what appeared to be the most difficult question ever asked. It was even more pathetic that they invented the idea of "gotcha" questions simply because she was too ignorant to answer the questions asked. How is "what newspapers do you read?" a fucking gotcha question? This so freaking pathetic it's hard to find the words to describe it. How is asking her what other SCOTUS decisions with which she didn't agree trying to trip her up? Or asking he how she's enjoying her trip to Boston. That a really tough gotcha question. She has trouble answering the question "how are you?" as if they just asked her to run complex calculus equations in her head. It's sickening. She wanted to be vice president and potentially president and is crying about gotcha questions? The presidency is one long, four year gotcha question. She's pure stupid.
That's what cracks me up about her. Ask difficult questions, she can't answer. Dumb down the questions, she still can't answer. The interviewers don't want it that way. It's good for a laugh, but makes for a shitty interview. Anyone can get tripped up, but even some of the easy, factual questions bring a blank stare. How can anyone watch something like this and still want her in office? I've never seen anyone that talks so much while saying so little. I wouldn't want her running a fucking McDonald's, much less the country.

" I am a Federalist" but it should be dealt with on a "State level"!!! Scary to think that this woman was thrust into the spotlight where she was 'gunning' to be one, small step from living in the White House!! Why isn't her 'fifteen minutes of fame' not over with yet?? Only in America, Sherrey in Southern Ontario
1. A Federalist is someone who is pro expansion of federal government like Hamilton. 2. List of Supreme Court Cases she could've said: Griswold v. Connecticut, Brown v. Board of Education, Mapp v. Ohio, Miranda v. Arizona, Mccullough v. Maryland (if you really wanna be extreme), and pretty much any other case of selective incorporation. 3. Shows how good the education quality is in Alaska
Fair enough. AL education isn't exactly on top in the country, but state-by-state education belongs to a different discussion. I shouldn't have worded that last number the way I did. I'll agree that her college-jumping (and personal factors) probably have more to do with her lack of knowledge than the AL education system solely. Also, as a note, I have been to Alaska before, and I do actually like the place overall, so please don't mistake my criticism as discrimination.
+Natalie Wu - no worries, Natalie. AK education def worth another discussion. She finally graduated from University of Idaho, Moscow, but if you look at all the universities she attended, she averaging about a year apiece at each one. A family member of mine is a prof. at Moscow and definitely doesn't brag about their most 'famous' alma mater. I like your adding the definition of a federalist and your quick listing of cases she could have cited - Brown vs Board of Education should have been an immediate choice by her in answering the question - I remember learning about that case myself in high school in AK! It's all good. I think we can agree she's no academic! :)
Couric came prepared, Sarah thought she could “aw-shucks, you betcha!” her way through what she obviously thought would be softball questions on her life and bio, when Couric sliced her apart with real policy questions.
My heart goes out to Sarah Palin. She was clearly out of her league running for VP. What I don't understand is why some people got upset with Katie Couric. Katie was only doing her job, and the questions she asked Palin would have been easy for a high school kid to answer.
@@jonhohensee3258 I believe most high school kids would know about Brown vs. State of Kansas. That Supreme Court case dealt with the desegregation of schools in 1954. They teach that in high school history classes don't they? Sarah Palin was unable to name even ONE Supreme Court case.
Oh MAN this is like a kid trying to bs their way through a subject they have NO IDEA about. It is really painful to watch Sarah struggle through this question. She did NO research, and has no understanding of why Roe v Wade HAD to play out like it did. I am not running for president, but I have a better understanding of Roe v Wade than she does. This is high school knowledge about US History and Government, and Sarah can't even speak intelligently about it :(
I really supported John McCain in 2000, when he ran against Bush and lost. Bush turned out to be a disaster, of course, but McCain choosing Palin in 2008 was one of the most boneheaded political decisions he ever made.
I agree re: she should have declined the VP offer but you also have to fault McCain's campaign honchos for the worst vetting of a potential running mate EVER!! Had they done a credible job, they would have discovered how completely inadequate she was for the job.
I love how she starts to string random big words together whenever she's asked a question of high school level difficulty or higher. She short circuits like a robot that gets asked the chicken or the egg question.
I am a 17 year old student in the UK and can name more 'liberal activist' rulings on the US Supreme Court than the 2008 vice presidential candidate for the Republican Party??????
Okay people: Name a supreme court decision you DISAGREE with. She hinted at an answer. In her duties in the legislative and executive branches of government, it's not really her place to disagree with, but to simply abide by judicial branch decisions. Our system of checks and balances remedied the problem of the in executive unilaterally implementing anything, such as the Army to close abortion centers.
War rule and a different era of people involved. That was only 13 years after the Red Summer of 1919.Their grandparents owned people. They had a different way of seeing things, wrong by our standards.
Howard vs Panetta - on the right to put up a business establishment on one's home premises where the state's trade codes keep silent about it. Sarah Palin, everybody agrees is a moron but more than her, John Mcain and his campaign people are even dumber for thinking she was the best Republican at that time for VP. They figured they'd run the Hilary playbook, w/c is "get the women votes." It only goes to show it never was country first for the Republicans, it was campaign first. So stupid.
If it's not her place to disagree with SCOTUS decisions, then why did she comment on Roe v. Wade ? Also, there is a big difference between an average, ever day person not being able to name a SCOTUS decision they disagree with, and someone who is auditioning to be the VP. PS - just because you asked, here's a few SCOTUS decisions off the top of my head that I think stink (and these are just from this century) Citizens United Herring v. US Connick v. Thompson McDonald v. City of Chicago Atwater v. Lago Vista Ledbetter v Goodyear AT&T v Concepcion
If she decided as an executive not to follow the law in a case she could be impeached. Reagan didn't mess with it. It's an absolutely dead issue that is repeatedly whipped for a story. Next they'll be saying LSD is back again.
oops... oops... i don't know much about the Supreme Court...I don't know much about magazines or newspapear because I'm too busy shooting wolves from a helicopter...like oops....I was a mayor of a town of 7,000. That's smaller than most middle schools in US capital cities. I don't know a great deal about Constitutional law because... oops... which one is the Bill of Rights? Am I running for Vice President? oops I did it again
Everyone's cheering about Tina Fey's brilliant Palin impersonation but I think Amy Poehler deserves a honorary mention. She got Couric's incredulous eye blinking down pat
That's like using a nuke on an anthill. She was stumped at being asked what she liked about the Paul Revere museum, she had JUST gone through. She could have mentioned ANYTHING, that she just saw. She even later said it was a "Gotcha question". It's what you ask a second-grader on a field trip.
Hey America, Before today 12/01/2011, I knew nothing about Sarah Palin But after listening and doing some due diligence I have come away a believer this woman HAS A MESSAGE for America. Wow !!! SHES THE ONE !!! I believe she could do it and you know what? not from the White House either but imagine this Palin and Oprah get together and do like a huge lift and Change America theme. What do you think ??
Her answers make no sense...I could have answered these questions so much better. She even seemed stumped on the "right to privacy" question (which what was Roe v Wade was based) as if she didn't know what that meant. How did she make it that far in politics?
+Johnny Matthew : She made it that far bc the American educational system is crap -- and it's crap bc the rich people in power want it that way. A public that's incapable of critical thinking is a public they can manipulate. Sad sad sad times for anyone who cares about social justice, anyone who wants a clean, civilized, peaceful world.
On Roe v. Wade "I think it should be up to the states for them to decide for themselves, and not be decided nationally. However I am pro life, and would like to see that embraced by America". So she's against pro-choice being decided nationally and should be decided by the states, but would like for anti-abortion to be dictated on a national level. So she against an issue being decided nationally for all the states, UNLESS it's the outcome she wants.
This is just painful to watch. To think someone so...unqualified, I guess, would be the kindest answer, was running to be second in command of our government. Wow.
It's like watching an oral exam. Couric is trying so hard to help Palin pass, but Palin just hasn't done her home work. Q = "What other Supreme Court decisions do you disagree with ?" A = "Rubbish rubbish, garbage rubbish" Q = "Can you think of any?" A = "Rubbish" Fail
My ears bleed from the horror of the unintelligent answers from a person running for vice president of the united states.Still scares the shit out of me that people really thought she would make a good president.

Haha! Yeah, I agree :)
Wasn't Dred Scott a governor in Alaska? Katey, are you sure Europe isn't a country? Ah.. Such a brilliant woman. lol
Seriously, what on Earth was McCain thinking?
Congratulations, Katie, you absolutely SLAMMED Palin on that 1! Well done!
What are you talking about, she did it to herself
Couric came prepared, Sarah thought she could “aw-shucks, you betcha!” her way through what she obviously thought would be softball questions on her life and bio, when Couric sliced her apart with real policy questions.
She has a tremendous talent for allowing many words to escape her lips without really saying anything of substance.
Some times when I need a laugh, I always ended up watching Sarah Palin videos.
You know when you cringe out of embarrassment for others? That's my face the whole time.
Katie was like "I got this Bitch"
+Cherie McFadden Boy, did she ever. In more ways than one.
Still dont understand how she became a mayor much less a governer
She had an (R) next to her name.
Too bad Curic couldn't interview Trump the same way. He would have failed miserably.
My heart goes out to Sarah Palin. She was clearly out of her league running for VP.
What I don't understand is why some people got upset with Katie Couric. Katie was only doing her job, and the questions she asked Palin would have been easy for a high school kid to answer.
The only people that get upset were Republicans. They did the same with Trump when he got asked "tough questions" but claimed that opposition did not.
@@darkspeed62 I agree. 💯💯💯
Not true. Most high schoolers would not know about Supreme Court decisions.
@@justmyopinion9883 They might cover it in high school, but few students would retain that info a few weeks later.
This is high school knowledge about US History and Government, and Sarah can't even speak intelligently about it :(
UncleBiscuits79
You might want to remove the word intelligently, she can't even speak proper English about any subject...
I really supported John McCain in 2000, when he ran against Bush and lost. Bush turned out to be a disaster, of course, but McCain choosing Palin in 2008 was one of the most boneheaded political decisions he ever made.
Just came back for a good laugh
"Can you think of ANY???" LMAO!!
dear god I thought we where done with her. what has trump done.
PIVOT!!...PIVOT!!
Haha great response
LOL
I wish she could be on "are you smarter than a 5th grader" she might unseat Pickler as the dumbest yet.
I watch this and keep thinking of Tina Fey`s SNL famous line "can I use a lifeline?"
"...and not got to allow that. And also to the great Ronald Reagan".😂
She was in over her head and simply didn't have the courage to admit much less know it. She shouldn't have taken then nod in the first place.
I agree re: she should have declined the VP offer but you also have to fault McCain's campaign honchos for the worst vetting of a potential running mate EVER!! Had they done a credible job, they would have discovered how completely inadequate she was for the job.
I can't for the life of me understand how the Macain people fucked up so bad.
Never going to be consensus??? what about Brown v. Board of Education.... 9 - 0. Sounds like consensus on the court.
This never gets old 😂😂
I love how she starts to string random big words together whenever she's asked a question of high school level difficulty or higher. She short circuits like a robot that gets asked the chicken or the egg question.
It's amazing how far a smoking hot women can get with just her looks. This women almost became Vice President...WOW!
She has no idea what was asked, but would not admit it. And she certainly doesn't have the talent or the creativityto wing it.
I am a 17 year old student in the UK and can name more 'liberal activist' rulings on the US Supreme Court than the 2008 vice presidential candidate for the Republican Party??????
MAV WRECK !!!
from mav wreck to train wreck
Okay people: Name a supreme court decision you DISAGREE with. She hinted at an answer. In her duties in the legislative and executive branches of government, it's not really her place to disagree with, but to simply abide by judicial branch decisions. Our system of checks and balances remedied the problem of the in executive unilaterally implementing anything, such as the Army to close abortion centers.
Korematsu v US
War rule and a different era of people involved.
PS - just because you asked, here's a few SCOTUS decisions off the top of my head that I think stink (and these are just from this century)
Citizens United
Herring v. US
Connick v. Thompson
McDonald v. City of Chicago
Atwater v. Lago Vista
Ledbetter v Goodyear
AT&T v Concepcion
SAD VERY SAD
It's like watching a newborn calf trying to stand up for the first time.
She set her up, she knew she couldn't answer that question lol hilarious
We dodged a bullet. Thank you Katie Couric 💜
Just to swallow a grenade 8 years later...
I can't comprehend how anyone can watch this and not conclude that an enormous gap between intellectual supply and demand exists here...
That's like using a nuke on an anthill. She was stumped at being asked what she liked about the Paul Revere museum, she had JUST gone through. She could have mentioned ANYTHING, that she just saw. She even later said it was a "Gotcha question". It's what you ask a second-grader on a field trip.
Hey America,
Before today 12/01/2011, I knew nothing about Sarah Palin But after listening and doing some due diligence I have come away a believer this woman HAS A MESSAGE for America.
Yes, the dumbing down of society.
If you think that is desastrous, check the crazy ramblings of GOP‘s 2016-2024 Pres. candidate.
I agree, she needs to start cooking seal meat, Full Time!!!!
The reporter is good at keeping her from eluding questions.
I haven't watched anybody get one over Katie. She's bloody witty and very knowledgeable on a wide variety of topic. Poor Palin.
That was very brave of Senator McCain to pick her of all people 😂 😂 America dodged a bullet!!'
As an A-Level Politics student I know more about Supreme Court cases than she does!
This is just painful to watch. To think someone so...unqualified, I guess, would be the kindest answer, was running to be second in command of our government. Wow.
this was the beginning of Palin and Couric's friendship. i'm being silly.
Why are these so fun to watch right now???
OMG if she is ever so privileged to be elected I'll be moving to China.
She should've just said, "Roe v. Wade is the only Supreme Court decision that I've ever heard of, Katie. How do you like my pink outfit?"
Thank you, Katie, for exposing this candidate's deficiencies.
And all without one single “Gotcha” question.
The way that Katie Couric says, "Can you think of any?" at 1:32 sounds like she's asking a 4 year old what's her favorite flavor of ice cream.
That's the most softball question ever.
"Dred Scott v Sandford". I don't think you'll offend too many people by saying you disagree with that one.
Can you give Palin some ointment for that burn? Classic!
That was freaking hilarious.
My I.Q dropped after watching that, thnx!
It's like watching an oral exam. Couric is trying so hard to help Palin pass, but Palin just hasn't done her home work.
Q = "What other Supreme Court decisions do you disagree with ?"
A = "Rubbish rubbish, garbage rubbish"
Q = "Can you think of any?"
A = "Rubbish"
Fail
My ears bleed from the horror of the unintelligent answers from a person running for vice president of the united states.Still scares the shit out of me that people really thought she would make a good president.
Ummmm....the Federalists were AGAINST states having more say than the federal government.
Conservatives:
How long does it take to say "Dred Scott"?
Still PRICELESS!!!
You could ask Sarah Palin who her favorite member of Destinys Child is and she would be stumped.
That question would have stumped me as well, not gonna lie
Damn. Why do I have a Miss Teen South Carolina flashback whenever this woman speaks?
Couric: What other Supreme Court decisions do you disagree with, can you think of any?
Palin: Bitch, I have no clue, stop asking me that!
Just never gets old......
She said "constituencies". B'Gawd she gots my vote.
Half way through Palins rambling I forgot what the question was.
Palin would’ve had a better interview if she answered speaking in tongues
😂
I am not into Hillary Clinton, but I'm curious as to what would Clinton would say to these same questions
