A note to people in the UK: Our sprinkles do not have the same preservatives as American sprinkles and therefore tend to bleed into the cake batter if mixed in and disappear. I would recommend just using them on the outside :)
@@jezieruby Cake flour just has ower ability of forming extensive gluten networks, making cakes lighter and fluffie. Maybe you have soft flour in australia?? If not just search up subsitutes
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEB ❤❤ have a great one!! Best wishes and loads of love from all across the world 📯 also whatever you do with your day, just make sure to appreciate yourself 🥰
Tip: if you don’t have cake flour you can substitute 1 tbls of corn starch for every 1 cup of flour in the recipe Ex: 4 cups of flour 4 tbls (1/4 cup) corn starch
That works in a normal creaming cake but not in a reversed creaming cake. Gluten will form because you whip the flour for so long. Just buy flour with little gluten. Here it is called pastry flour.
I find it so interesting that in America this is a birthday cake. In my country birthday cake is whichever cake you want for your birthday with candles on top. This is a white cake with sprinkles (which only add color, not flavor )
In America, it's traditional for birthday cakes to be colorful, but many people do request birthday cakes to be other flavors, basically any flavor that is a normal cake flavor. Chocolate is extremely common. A basic cake is white like this, but there are plenty of other options.
In America birthday cake is also whatever cake you want, for example my brother had carrot cake yesterday and i had red velvet cake on my birthday This confetti sprinkle cake like this is just called “birthday cake” it’s not necessarily always used just for birthdays
It's not "birthday cake." It's a white confetti cake. Confetti cakes are really popular with kids here so they've become the "birthday cake" du jour. Anything "birthday cake" flavored here is just vanilla cake flavored. A bday cake is any cake you enjoy on your birthday!
Please do not stop this series. I love the way you guys explain all your experiment to find the best in each tiny parts of a whole dishes, even with the simplest recipe.
Ain’t no way they said “Swiss meringue was too heavy so we chose American buttercream” bruh. Anyone reading this and wanting to try this recipe out PLEASE USE SWISS MERINGUE!!! It way less sweet and dense and it’s not that much harder to make. Also it’s shiny and pretty 😙
Yeah they lost me. Soon as they said that I’m like oh, so they don’t have any clue what they’re talking about huh? 😭 Swiss Meringue Buttercream is wayyyy lighter than American Buttercream.
The only thing I would add is McCormick's birthday cake extract. I add 1 tsp of that alongside the vanilla in the batter..... And 1 tsp in my buttercream frosting. It's expensive, $5 for a couple oz. I probably wouldn't do it if I was just serving this to kids. But that can be your secret ingredient 😀❣️. Great video.
just thought id give a quick tip. buttercream tends to be off white or yellowish in colour because of the butter. if you want that bright white then put the TINIEST amount of purple food colouring in it. and use powdered or gel. NOT the liquid kind. also if you want dark red or black, get it as "dark" as possible (with out using all of your food colouring) and microwave it for a few seconds. not enough to melt it but the colour will become much darker
My best friend's birthday is tomorrow! She supports me in so much, and she loves my homemade desserts! Not sure if she likes birthday cake, as her favorite cake is red velvet. Too bad I can't see her as much as before, now that we're not in college anymore and the COVID-19 pandemic still makes it hard for me to see others.
Cancer here too!!! Yummy can't wait until I am no longer preggers with diabetes to try this cake out.. Too bad it will be after my bday before I can make it.. I think strawberry in the middle layers would be an awesome addition too.
wow, that's a lot of butter! I make a non-dairy crusted buttercream icing that uses high ratio shortening and tastes amazing and it has a long shelf life and does not have to be refrigerated, it also is pure white in color
whipped cream as frosting is really good because it’s light and not to sweet. I don’t like buttercream because it’s too sweet but if you want something lighter and something more creamy, then use whipped cream. no regrets
If get bake easy spray it it will come off no parchment paper needed. Just let it cool down 15 minutes before turning it. I feel wrong with the flour then butter method. Maybe because in pastry classes we always taught to use wet ingredients first add butter, sugar together then eggs mix with vanilla then dry ingredients last. If using sprinkles/chocolate chips/ fruit to fold them using a spatula by hand. Whipped is always better than regular it's not overly sweet.
For anyone that doesn't have or doesn't want to buy cake flour, here is a substitution. For one cup of cake flour, add one cup of all purpose flour (AP flour) into a sifter. DO NOT SIFT YET. Then, remove two table spoons of the AP Flour and substitute those two tablespoons with corn starch. Then sift everything together. While we are at it, to make pastry flour: sift together 2 parts AP with 1 part cake flour These are tips straight out of my pastry arts school. Have fun baking!

is that the same with Australian sprinkles? also what is cake flour? we don't have that here in Australia

@@Fleur2005 Yeah. This is more a "standard" birthday cake. Most people just have whatever they want on their birthday 🎂
It’s not that black and white. This is just a popular cake to have for birthdays. But of course any cake you want can be a birthday cake.

maybe they just said that because they prefer American Buttercream over Swiss Meringue

Yeah, what did they even mean by that?!
@@jezieruby doesnt change the fact that American buttercream is still heavier
@@jezieruby Maybe they executed it incorrectly, or one of their workers accidentally mislabeled one of the frostings.

I’m confused like how is Swiss meringue heavier than American buttercream
SAME.
Ikr, it doesn’t make sense.
Exactly it isn't heavier its meringue based, everything else was good but I would never use American buttercream too sickly sweet
So true!!! American buttercream is soooo sweet and heavy
I really agree with you. This tasty video doesn’t seem to be up to par as the previous ones.
