Concerning the removal of bean spots in the 3DS version. I actually played through the game during the broadcast of this Let’s play, and they made some bean spots yield more than one bean.
I've been dying to see that playthrough the moment the game first released, because when I remembered back to his Pikmin 3 playthrough, I was like "Didn't he talk about Pikmin 4 at some point?", I know it's gonna take some time for him to do it, but I will be probably rewatching his Pikmin 1 to 3 series when he finishes Bowser's Inside Story, because rewatching a let's player's old game series before he plays the most current chapter of the story is very important so that you don't miss anything, but yeah, I guess we'll have to see when the time comes. (This is the end of my ted talk, thanks for reading, well, even IF you read it.)
Being able to properly fight those small creatures that Bowser killed automatically by walking over them is my favorite detail of Mario & Luigi's side. Also, S N E E D
29:49 I thought of another inspiration: Luigi’s Mansion. During the King Boo and Bowser fight, one of the Bowser costume’s attacks is to try to inhale Luigi with an effect that looks strikingly similar to the Vacuum block’s effect.
I love that the sad pentagon and knock-downable fruit are both totally unique assets that you could miss completely if you don’t bother exploring two places you have no real reason to. Such a surprising bit of effort for totally optional content. I’d be worried about Emile getting overpowered, if not for the Challenge Medal’s existence.
12:55 That power up is so broken in NSMB, you're mostly invincible and can fly through levels. Heck, you can pretty much speedrun with it and barely have to drop the power-up for Warps
25:18 To be fair, the pipes go from basic means of travel in Super Mario Bros, to defying logic, and traversing across all time & space in later games. Bowser entering himself wouldn't be out of the question and being unaffected wouldn't be impossible in Super Mario. More fans need to embrace how weird this series is.
Émile, I worked with students with disabilities in the gen ed classroom, and what I noticed (and what the research shows) is that if you already have ONE neurodevelopmental disorder (e.g. autism), you’re about 50% likely to have at least one other. Having watched your videos for over a decade now, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD), where your subvocalization (reading words in your head, where you can “hear” yourself read it) is a culprit for you misreading and misinterpreting, especially since you always tend to get the general theme.
13:00 The blue shell power-up did kinda return in Super Mario 3D World. If you knock a koopa out of it's shell, you can pick it up. While running with the shell, press the crouch button to enter it.
Inside This Episode: BEANS. I don’t really have much to talk about with the Bean hunting here, which would mean that this would be a short one, so…I hope whoever keeps up with these comments I make likes the new extended ‘personal opinion’ sections I’ve been adding! I may not be able to do it for every playthrough that Chugga makes, but i’ve been really enjoying doing these for this game. Making the day’s ‘In This Episode’ is always one of my favourite times of the day, so seeing even just one or two likes on these comments always puts a smile on my face, especially with how much I’ve been enjoying doing them for this series. Sure, we’ve yet to make as big a banger as some of my previous ones (including that one XBC2 comment that got onto TV Tropes), but I’m just really enjoying these little moments where I get to tell more about my experiences beyond a single one-line joke, and I hope you guys enjoy them too.
kind of in okami there IS a checklist but the areas where those stray beads are is just ???????????? and there is no map for them you just have to fully explore the areas
12:38 Funny enough, I completed the bean hunt for all but two areas without the remake spelling it out for me. Kinda groaned a bit when I realized that the game kinda give you a general area where you're missing beans. I'm pretty happy about it. Good that I don't have to search literally everywhere for one bean (and one bean that is forever not found in my playthrough of Superstar Saga remake) And as seen here (12:01) : any beans you've collected from an NPC is listed here. Remake only keeps track of the ones buried underground.
25:00 I wanna add something to the Bean Comment : Yay and Nay. Yay for less Bean Spots, NAY for how many beans in total you get. IN TOTAL, YOU GET : Including any Giant Bowser Fights and NPCs that give you beans. I should also mention that : You can get multiple Beans from one Bean Spot as well. Up to 5. So 3 random bean spots in a place can give 15. Heart Beans : 67 Special Beans : 56 Power Beans : 49 Defense Beans : 38 Speed Beans : 54 Flex Beans : 54(Stache/Horn) It's kinda easy that I have a list of how much quantity of one type of bean there is only because I have NOT used one, and I did EVERYTHING. Yes, including that one long thing. You can also farm for beans as well from enemies with Bean-ish Equipment. One for the Bros. for killing enemies, while one for Bowser for Vacuuming them.
Same here, I didn't talk to the Toad because I didn't see that he was standing on a bean spot, when I went after all the beans later and looked around in a guide it showed me that toad and I talked to him and got the map, I personally liked it a lot since it made getting the last few ones a breeze and would've made getting all the other ones much easier if I had known it existed
@@joarm8152 that doesn't provide me any insight i wanted because as soon as i realized he was assuming i'd played pikmin it was all white noise to me edit: ok i went back and tried hearing him out and i simply do not know enough about pikmin to understand what any of it even means
1:35 - More like a healthy salad in a barbeque at a NASCAR race day. 16:29 - Yes, we get it, Human Sans. If you did Undertale, it'd do your job for you.
Ummm.... Chuggaa. In the 3DS version, you can use both shoulder buttons to change field moves. From Jump, L goes to hammers while R goes to spin jump. That's on you for not realizing that. It's actually MORE convenient. It genuinely feels like you're looking for things to complain about
I vaguely recall the Bros being able to activate the Broque Monsieur blocks using their hammers, I think. Although i might be thinking of what happens if you speak to Broque Monsieur in person with the Bros, idk.
@ you can actually go follow him into the employee break room and he basically reveals that he’s only friendly because he’s on the clock and he still dislikes Mario and Luigi for destroying blocks lol.
When it comes to beans, in Brothership, I invested EVERY SINGLE ONE into Luigi. It may not be optimal, but the boy deserved it! (And Mario was still quite strong)
03:33 Did you still not go further down and to the right there?! 08:20 And you also don't go and take a look at that Mini-Mario-hole right next to the left pipe in that room to the left of here?! You're really killing me here, man. 10:52 Due to Bowser's generally higher attack power, the enemies he fights also tend to be much greater damage sponges. They take longer to defeat as the bros, but yield less rewards by comparison. 13:06 The Blue Shell is one of my favourite power-ups ever, maybe even my most favourite. It's just a lot of fun. 15:02 The Brawny Wear is actually quite good to get before the Energy Hold (before you get access to the Balm Wear and all). 19:56 You were doing fine with being appropriately levelled, but now you're really getting above of what the game expects of you again. 32:36 Okay, with Star Rank at this point, you're positively overlevelled. I don't usually reach Star Rank before the Junker fight. 38:42 You are level 26 already in a game where you fight the Final Boss at around level 30, what did you expect? 39:36 Honestly, you should just consantly wear the Challenge Medal at this point if you don't want to just steamroll every enemy and boss throughout the rest of the game. 20:22 What?! Why? Yeah, you can't get all of them now, but you're already here, so why leave it? 24:24 To be fair, the amount of them really is quite excessive. I absolutely get why they did it. 26:58 There are no hidden blocks in this game that contain anything. They're used exclusively as platforms like in the Flab Zone. 27:25 This item, of course, increases in usefulness he higher your DEF is. 28:02 R.I.P. that bean spot there. 33:33 Look, as a kid I'd misread Luigi as Lugi and called him that for an extremely long time. My dad corrected me all the time and I just insisted on Lugi because that's what I was used to. 33:44 Formerly Chuck. 34:38 The description here is rubbish. It might increase Special Attack power by 30%, but it _doubles_ SP cost. Same goes for the Luxury Patch increasing SP cost by 50%. 35:20 This bothers me to no end, and it's something that Paper Jam started. In this game (the DS original), you cycle through actions with R, and there is only one "direction". The L-button is instead used to immediately switch back to jump. Paper Jam lets you cycle in both "directions" with L and R, with L being "forward". They kept this for both remakes and my muscle memory hates it. I also instinctively press R to cycle "forward" but it goes "backward" instead, so I don't get the hammers when I want them. I'm glad you mentioned this because I never see anyone talk about it, especially compared to how much it infuraties me.
35:20 Chuggaa... 3DS QoL was that L and R swap between the actions like a wheel. LLLL goes Jump -> Hammer -> Spin Jump/Drill -> Jump RRRR goes Jump -> Spin Jump/Drill -> Hammer -> Jump You can use L or R to go between Hammer and Spin Jump/Drill instead if you need to.
35:00 You can use the left and right buttons to cycle through each option in the remake. So from the Jump you press the left button to go to Hammers then the Spin/Drill and press the right button to go from Jump to Spin/Drill to Hammers.
This is my preference, but I like to explore the world with the Bros right after the Nose Deck stuff for the Koopa Corp, especially in Challenge Medal runs. Sure, you won’t get the Beans until after the Energy Hold, but you can still unlock most of the paths back to Bowser, and it’s worth it to pick up some damn good gear like the Giant Shell and the Special they don’t want you to get until a bit later (we’ll get to it), but they can really help make the dreaded Wisdurm and the next fight more manageable fight. Not to mention, it’ll be more reasonable to get Shine Rank in these runs right before you chase after Durmite in the Energy Hold due to the overpowered enemies you can try to take on. It’s a fun part of the game to me, it’s like a sidequest that you can make up for yourself to do and get very rewarded for going out of your way earlier than you should I watched further in, and Jesus, already Star Rank?! That is overkill for right now, you normally don’t get that until the start of the Peach’s Castle! Whether the grinding was intentional or not, that’s insane
I wonder what Bowser must be thinking about while Mario and Luigi are busy in the Pump Works inside of him. "Yeah, I need to get to my castle ASAP to get the Star Cure, but I'm just going to stop here for a bit and have a drink of water for five minutes straight for no reason!"
Btw, the Dark Fawful Guy that Bowser can inhale at Peaches Castle ALSO get eaten by Yoob. And that implies that Bowser ate Yoob at some point between leaving his castle and getting to Peaches’
The irony of chugga talking about accidentally misreading things more and more, and then IMMEDIATELY misreading the text of the Heroic Patch is immense...
Fun Fact: If you were to use Bowser's Bodyslam move near an enemy on the overworld, that enemy will be stunned temporarily, allowing you to get first strikes easier.
The rewards for the Mushroom Balls are different in the 3DS. The final reward is a Badge, the Shield Badge, instead of the Treausre Specs The Treausre Specs are obtained from collecting 10 balls. Also you get 5 Defense, Speed & Flex beans in addition to the Heart, Special & Power beans
24:38 On the topic of removing bean spots, maybe it's because they added the farmer boots, a notorious equipment piece from Dream Team and Paper Jam, into the remake?
Enemies: Fall directly onto and/or between the bros spikes-first, which would most definitely be both startling and painful Chugga: Oh CoMe On, ThAt WaS a FiRsT sTrIkE?
The Mawful Mole is an enemy I distinctly remember entirely because I had some of my first existential ponderings while fighting them as a young kid. No idea why. They weren't the reason, but for some reason, I just casually had a miniature existential crisis while fighting them. I was worried about something to do with the concept of happiness, if I remember correctly. ...I uh... I was a weird kid...
When it comes to the beans, I always split it evenly with the bros AND bowser. Bowser may be a natural tank, but even a natural tank needs a tune up once in a while.
Tiny detail about the mawful mole and it’s later variant: when it gets dirt on its head, it gets ears. Otherwise, it doesn’t have these, so it’s an sprite inconsistency!
In the remake you can hit the other shoulder button to swap through actions in reverse order, so you can still access the hammer in one button press. In fact, it means you can switch from any set of actions to any other set in one button press. One of the reasons I actually prefer the remake to the OG
Yes! A long episode about the many collectibles in this game, plus a trip around the game's world! Those bean stat upgrades and gear will definitely help in the future. 11:37 Chugga removing the 69 stat without noticing? 13:32 I just noticed that Mario's stache stat did not upgrade at all after a level up. It probably did happen previously at some point. 12:53 I have not played New Super Mario Bros. yet, but the Blue Shell power up looks fun to use. The Koopa Troopa shell in 3D World is similar, but it stops eventually when it travels too much without bumping into something, plus you have to carry it with you if you want to constantly use it, until you stop at a warp pipe. At least there is much more freedom to use it in Bowser's Fury (pro tip: You can use Bowser Jr. to extend the shell's duration). I wish this power up comes to the next Super Mario Maker game. It also reminds me of the Wheel Copy Ability from the Kirby series. 18:56 LOL 19:58 I played it in slow motion and apparently you missed the window for an attack by just a bit. 20:21 Knowing what's going to happen next, this is understandable. 34:34 and 34:43 Certified double Mario doh moment. 38:17 Wow, that was perfect.
Max Nut sounds like perfect meme material. As for the Giant Shell, I really like the whole idea of "damage threshold", where weak attacks end up doing either negligible damage or no damage. On top of offering a feeling of impunity, it also encourages the switching up of tactics, especially if it applies to enemies. Ironcast and FTL are examples of games that do this kind of thing, with Ironcast's shields directly subtracting damage from each hit (thus making heavy-hitters more desirable against enemies with good shields), and FTL's shields doing something similar to beam weapons. The Bye-Bye Gloves also make me think of the Judgment card from Slay the Spire, since that has a similar "instakill" mechanic in the form of a big hammer. Though rather than it being a random chance to kill outright, Judgment instakills an enemy with 30 HP or less (40 HP if the card is upgraded), which is also kinda like Axe's Culling Blade from Dota 2. ...ok, we're all thinking it, but I'm not going to say it.
As someone who always kept the bros leveling flags the same or very similar to each other 24/7, seeing Luigi get a level up, but not Mario, actually kinda hurts.
I vividly remember something I saw on the back of my own box. It was minimario spinning with luigi in the pump works with mucus around the top and bottom. It's these little things that I remember but it's so vivid. But I did have a few dreams involving BIS when I was younger.
The reason that bean spots were removed in the 3DS version is because many bean spots actually give multiple beans at once in the remake. I think this was done as a means to trim fat, and I have no issue with that
Fun fact: In the remake of the game while playing as the Bros in the overworld, Enemies that Bowser usually fights will ignore Mario and Luigi. I guess they’re chill like that. :)
33:07 When you played Skyward Sword and you went to the spirit realm, and told us that you pronounced the “waking water” “WALKing water” I never new until you brought it up. Now I can’t unsee it.
Did I ever mention how much I love exploring the overworld as the Bros? Especially since you explore it differently and realize how different the exploration is with them compared to Bowser's, and so many secrets you missed beforehand Including fighting the enemies Bowser fights, and seeing the difference in combat styles
Another funny detail about the theatre crowd: the Koopa that was waiting at the front of the line with the Dry Bones claims he had to survive for ten days off of pocket lint to keep his spot. Both this story and the Dry Bones' story can only be read as Bowser right before you fight Midbus but after the theatre room is closed for the show.
You may have already been clued into this, but you actually don't need Bowser to burn away the poster in front of Bowser's castle: you can just whack Mario and waltz right through it. I've played this game three times and I never knew that you could burn the posters away.
I dont know if this has been stated yet chugga but i think the bounce helmet is based on the action being done just right i wish i had the game to test this but perhaps you could when you have time, i noticed at the twenty minute and 15 second mark of the previous episode you used bounce helmet on the worm boss and mario jumps shorter every time the action command is just right (indicated by the particles when he jumps and the spins), could be wrong but maybe worth testing?
24:19 the reason they removed a lot of bean spots is because you get multiple beans in one spot in fact you get essentially more beans in the 3ds version manly the fact that there’s beans for every stat attribute play that game again so you get the idea it’s not really that big of a deal ❤😊
Personally I find it a more glaring issue how in Wind Waker HD aiming your items is done with the left control stick instead of the right, and it's almost impossible to fluidly switch between Arrow types if they're not equipped to R, yet nobody bats an eye.
A genuine strat is to actually give all your bulk boosting beans to Mario instead of Luigi. Because he's faster than Luigi he can revive him without wasting a turn should he die, making Luigi actually a good option to be geared for full offence. Normally if Mario is dead his turn gets eaten up since he has to wait for lugi to revive him, with this strat you can ensure you're way less likely to have a dead turn. With another hyper offensive gear piece you get later Luigi can be just as deadly as Mario and this isn't a bad strategy for the final gauntlet fight
1:30 this little rant is so real I was missing just one might crystal recently and couldn’t even find it after looking it up, but eventually got it just walking around

“I was eating those beans!” Also I can’t wait for when you get to Pikmin 4.

This was quite the beanventure. Also the fact that they reused Yoob’s cry for one of the fawful guy attack.
Considering Fawful has fawfulized everything else, that Yoob is probably a Fawfoshi. Or a Yoshawful.
28:08 Missed a bean spot.
I realize this one in a couple episodes! Believe me, I make a big deal out of it.

Beans, beans, the musical fruit.
The more you eat, the more they'll demonetize you if you finish this poem!
30:10 They're doing a dance called "The Running Man", Emile.
26:03 You don't need Bowser. Small Mario can enter that hidden area with the poster still on.
Was just about to comment this, thanks!
IIRC, that was only in the remake, where you could just hammer the poster away

Having watched your videos for over a decade now, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD), where your subvocalization (reading words in your head, where you can “hear” yourself read it) is a culprit for you misreading and misinterpreting, especially since you always tend to get the general theme.

Inside This Episode:
BEANS.
29:35 Considering the thing that happens later, it might just straight-up BE Yoob.
(Also, coincidentally, "Special Bean" was my nickname at College.)
In the Remake, the Mushroom Balls’ ultimate prize is the Shield Badge, giving you 50% + damage reduction in battle.
Regarding the remake's version of the bean count, isn't that basically how Okami did Stray Beads?
kind of in okami there IS a checklist but the areas where those stray beads are is just ???????????? and there is no map for them you just have to fully explore the areas
Heart Beans : 67
Special Beans : 56
Power Beans : 49
Defense Beans : 38
Speed Beans : 54
Flex Beans : 54(Stache/Horn)
It's kinda easy that I have a list of how much quantity of one type of bean there is only because I have NOT used one, and I did EVERYTHING.

💀
To think this game is the latest appearance of the blue shell power up is sad. 15 years of no references!
35:20
Chuggaa...
3DS QoL was that L and R swap between the actions like a wheel.
LLLL goes Jump -> Hammer -> Spin Jump/Drill -> Jump
RRRR goes Jump -> Spin Jump/Drill -> Hammer -> Jump
You can use L or R to go between Hammer and Spin Jump/Drill instead if you need to.
It’s a fun part of the game to me, it’s like a sidequest that you can make up for yourself to do and get very rewarded for going out of your way earlier than you should
I watched further in, and Jesus, already Star Rank?! That is overkill for right now, you normally don’t get that until the start of the Peach’s Castle! Whether the grinding was intentional or not, that’s insane
30:22 I don’t know about pelvic thrusting… but I do know they are doing the running man dance
32:24 yet he didn't bring up the them shaking their assess at the bros

I wonder what Bowser must be thinking about while Mario and Luigi are busy in the Pump Works inside of him. "Yeah, I need to get to my castle ASAP to get the Star Cure, but I'm just going to stop here for a bit and have a drink of water for five minutes straight for no reason!"
But Emile, you already used this pun in Partners in Time.
Imagine if the Mario Bros used these Statistic Beans to make Nachoes.
Starbeans but awesome
28:53 hearing him sing the family guy them is something I didn't know I needed
Enemies: Fall directly onto and/or between the bros spikes-first, which would most definitely be both startling and painful

@@Ultra04channel I think you might've just been found by a dementor
When it comes to the beans, I always split it evenly with the bros AND bowser. Bowser may be a natural tank, but even a natural tank needs a tune up once in a while.

Guardian socks are actually one of the best gear for battle medley, saved me in my run
18:56 LOL
19:58 I played it in slow motion and apparently you missed the window for an attack by just a bit.
20:21 Knowing what's going to happen next, this is understandable.
34:34 and 34:43 Certified double Mario doh moment.
38:17 Wow, that was perfect.
Blue shell is also one of my favorite powerups. Another reason why the first New series game was genuinely amazing.
That title is honestly the best way you could've summed up this experience, and I will forever call this experience now, "Revisiting the Impact Site".
Second time calling a pentagon a hexagon this series.
Though rather than it being a random chance to kill outright, Judgment instakills an enemy with 30 HP or less (40 HP if the card is upgraded), which is also kinda like Axe's Culling Blade from Dota 2. ...ok, we're all thinking it, but I'm not going to say it.
max nut :

Chugga: "We'll can just kick this shell at them, beat them in one shot"
Dried Blooper: "One shot you say? how does 2 shot sound?"
"I misread that... quite badly."
And within minutes after going into a tangent about misreading things!
As someone who always kept the bros leveling flags the same or very similar to each other 24/7, seeing Luigi get a level up, but not Mario, actually kinda hurts.
the blue shell was my favorite power-up in NSMB as well
I vividly remember something I saw on the back of my own box. It was minimario spinning with luigi in the pump works with mucus around the top and bottom. It's these little things that I remember but it's so vivid. But I did have a few dreams involving BIS when I was younger.
Beans, beans they're good for your heart.
Especially since you explore it differently and realize how different the exploration is with them compared to Bowser's, and so many secrets you missed beforehand
Including fighting the enemies Bowser fights, and seeing the difference in combat styles
3:42 - I've done a full playthrough of Bowser's Inside Story like 3 times & never knew this area existed.
You may have already been clued into this, but you actually don't need Bowser to burn away the poster in front of Bowser's castle: you can just whack Mario and waltz right through it. I've played this game three times and I never knew that you could burn the posters away.
Strange how the fodder enemies in Bumpsy Plains were formerly Chuckyas
I dont know if this has been stated yet chugga but i think the bounce helmet is based on the action being done just right i wish i had the game to test this but perhaps you could when you have time, i noticed at the twenty minute and 15 second mark of the previous episode you used bounce helmet on the worm boss and mario jumps shorter every time the action command is just right (indicated by the particles when he jumps and the spins), could be wrong but maybe worth testing?
28:00 bean spot on the opposite side of the table

BEANS BEANS BEANS GREEN YELLOW AND BROWN!
That makes two of us, there, who did a Chowder joke in the comment.
Let's see in the remake beans exist for all stats, HP, BP, POW, DEF, SPD, STACHE and some hard to reach bean spots even have mutliple beans in them
24:19 the reason they removed a lot of bean spots is because you get multiple beans in one spot in fact you get essentially more beans in the 3ds version manly the fact that there’s beans for every stat attribute play that game again so you get the idea it’s not really that big of a deal ❤😊
35:05 Actually in the 3ds version if you use L it switch from jump to hammer while R switches to Spin.
26:34
You can just walk through the poster as the bros, lol. Removing it is entirely unnecessary
