You made the right choice Tony. My FT-WGS I had to reattach the motor wiring harness and the gimbals are loud. My Karma the sound sucks and Hero5 kept flaking out. Trying DJI Osmo is not as durable, have to run external mic, etc...just a pita. Should have just stuck with what works for others but was trying to get even better footage. Thanks for the review!

Totally agree with you on the local support man. I have a Rider-M and really like it a lot. It is pretty much identical to your EVO but I can't get any support or parts for it! I actually bought EVO parts for my Rider since they are the same products. Great review man!

Great gimbal comparison. I'm riding with Rider-M currently and it has worked well. I haven't luckily crashed it yet.
I bought the feiyu tech 3 axis and regretted it. Was on a bike trip on Thailand where I had a little slide off my bike. It's motor began buzzing. It was ok after I switched it off and back on again. On the following day, I had went over the bar and it rolled like a slot machine. It turns out that the little cable inside one of the motor. I hot glued it back in and it worked for a little while then when I went on another bike trip to New Zealand, it started acting up again. This time, it won't hold its position for long and would curled up to one side. I gave up on it. It's a piece of crap! Finally got me the zhiyun tech m rider and you feel that it's a much better gimbal right off the bat. The difference was night and day. Oh btw, Zhiyun Tech license the Evo SS.

Thanks for the review. I think I'm going to go for this gimbal too. I've been researching on RUclips. The only other comparable gimbal is the FY FEIYUTECH Feiyu WG2 which is very similar. I've hear the EVO SS is actually a rebaged and improved Feiyu WG2 but you get American support. And American support is important for problems. I was originally thinking about upgrading my $50 no name action camera for a better one with EIS, but that just doesn't compare to a gimbal. So I can get good video with a cheap camera on a good gimbal. I can always get a better camera in the future but the EVO SS looks like the best next step. I should also add that many of the reviews for both the EVO SSA and the Feiyu WG2 are done by mountain bikers and that is EXACTLY what I am too and will be using it that way. And I see such steady videos on the roughest of trails.
Using the phone app you can also tweak the speed of tracking. The EVO SS is a great product. Ha! The "wand thing"...it's ok, it's really OK to call it a Selfie Stick. It worked great on my Lauf video. Do you remember the Canadian MTB TV Show called "Drop In"? BTW...subscribed. Thanks. Good content.
It is an OLD school show. Look up some of the episodes. A bunch of goons traveling Canada for the summer. It's funny that you compared the EVO to both the Feiyu and Zhiyun gimbals, but only mentioned the Feiyu in your review. The Zhiyun is nearly identical to the EVO in construction, costs $75 less... and there's a service center for them in the US if you have problems.. So I'm not sure if this is a fair comparison.
1) I still like the remote app better then Zhiyun 2) Zhyiun does not come with the "awesome wand thing" 3) I emailed EVO to get some info in regards to how they differ from Zhiyun when it comes to the internals. Here you go: Hi Tony, Our motors and encoders are upgraded and our firmware and software settings are modified to our specifications for improved performance. Were in the business to provide quality over quantity. The Zhiyun does come with a selfie stick.. not sure how it compares to the EVO's awesome wand thingie, but even if it was utter crap, $75 will buy you a damn nice replacement. I bought the Zhiyun to replace the GoPro Karma grip I bought which, while their support is good and they're in the US, the hardware ended up being a complete disaster. Personally, I think this is one of those chocolate vs. vanilla things, my comment was more that your video talks about both competitors, but all of your comments were about the Feiyu, which I would agree is the the lesser of the three.
You killed me with this review.. lol. My first regret with buying feiyu tech, not having an adapter(I do see they make a bigger mount though) to mount the Garmin Virb Ultra which you clearly have on your EVO! Great action cam, now I have to search for the adapter for the WG, which will take 2+ weeks(China places) to get.. sucks.. EVO, puts it right out there that they have one for the Garmin.

For sure man! So far so good with it. Only one ride his past weekend on a Virginia trip, with my friends Hero4, but it performed well. Just said screw it on the adapter and ordered one off Amazon. Hey Tony, I have a question.. I recently purchased the Garmin Virb Ultra and the Feiyu Tech WG gimbal. After having 2hrs of failed attempts at updating the firmware on the WG, I returned it and picked up the Evo SS. My question is, when you have your Virb mounted in the SS, do you have a small gap of maybe 1-2mm in the mounting bracket? The Feiyu Tech fit my buddy's Hero4 snug like a glove. With the Garmin in the SS, It seems slightly bigger than the camera.
did you get the mount from EVO that was supposed to be able to hold the go pro hero 5 black and garmin virb, or do you have the one that came in the box with the EVO SS.
Dude thank you so much I'm glad you liked it, it is not rainproof unfortunately, I would advise everyone to keep this as dry as possible. However I have splashed it mildly. But I would not want ever take that chance again.

Oooh that is a good question I have no idea how much you would sweat and where! If it's from your chest I think that it will be fine if it's a lot from your chin and you think it could hit the gimbal I don't know. However you should be hanging forward to not danger the gimbal, really hard to say. Hmmm? There is a waterproof gimbal but it is not up to par for ridding Brian kennedy did a review on it. Biggest question where on your body are you worried most about sweat getting on the gimbal?

Actually it doesn't disturb me at all but I will translate my channel's name for you. O ok, cool, I totally get it!!! yes, you want to stack as many streams of income as possible. You will not make money solely on one thing, especially when you are starting out. My plan is obviously first get some money from add, then affiliate links, then merchandise, then sponsors, and then I will probably starting the patreon at some point. I want to eventually have at least 4 to 5 ways a i make money through the channel.
If that's the goal: keep going! I am just wondering if I really want this. You know... Where is the thin line between pure fun and ... work? I want to keep some magic on my channel and you know, money destroy magic ;)
I have a mission, my mission is not to just make mountain bike videos, there is a huge purpose behind my channel, I have not revealed it yet. I'm going to use this channel to assist others who are in need and are in need of special awareness, Something has affected and touched my life and I have to do something about and this channel is a vehicle to make a difference. i have a love and a passion for mountain bike ridding, thus I'm gonna use this vehicle of love to do something bigger than myself. Is it going to be no fun at times yes, am I going to get tired and hate it, yes! Remember, nothing worth doing is ever easy, if it was easy everyone would be doing it.
I'm thinking I'm going to purchase one of these. My Feiyu Tech keeps messing up. Fortunately I ran into a YT video on how to fix it instead of spending the $100 to ship it to China. But that doesn't help me on a trail when I just spent $100 on a rental to do a review on a few hours away from my house. Grrrr! New gimble in the near future!
Yeah man, EVO is solid and you shouldn't have any problems, they are made to be put the riggers of hell on the trail, however I still tell everyone treat it as a fragile instrument because when you go down with it, you want it to survive. Yeah, that things was horrible, and even if your gimbal is waterproof you camera won't be unless you use the hero 5, but even then water drops all over the camera ruin the footage. But since you are northern california you probably for sure get more rain then me. Im in southern california, Temecula area. Im sorry hear that about Amazon, when I first did my application for amazon affiliate links, I got denied and I had a lot purchases and lost everything when i got denied lol.
I was thinking if the Removu was good that maybe it would be a good option with the next GoPro. I would assume that the sound issues with the current one will be fixed. With the wet weather I just remember to wipe the lens a lot. I have a work trip to do some time over the summer in Irvine. I'm planning on bringing my bike. Maybe we can do something then. I'll reach out to you when I get it on the calendar. At the very least we could ride together.

Unfortunately no, I had to go with a completely different camera, GoPro has offered zero solutions for us gimbal users, I just believe they did not try the Karma and Hero 6 black combination and did not realize this horrible combo before they released, GoPro really dropped the ball!!!

Im thinking about getting a canon d70 for the vlogging and reviews, but its going to have to wait for now, and the Gopro Hero 5 black, worked pretty well in this video. I just got my EVO GP Pro and from the beginning I have issues with bluetooth connectivity on my devices . EVO is not visible at all in discovery mode . Any help ? Thanks
Oooh Ziggy I'm sorry to hear that man! Honestly, I have never used the Bluetooth feature. I would contact EVO they get back to you quick through email I would do it asap because they are probably closed for Father's Day. One time they got back to me in 20min. Very late to comment, but Thank you for not having a GoPro attached to this. I wish Garmin didn't get out of this market. GoPro way behind the Virb Ultra 30 even late 2019. Garmin was way a head and still are from device connectivity Ant+, data overlays.... First 4K... and many more IMHO! So many misses by GoPro. Must be good to be the perceived market leader. Their tech is lacking.. Good marketing company, tho!
Yeah unfortunately I believe GoPro is done, in the next year you are gonna see some amazing things from other companies and GoPro is falling falling falling
wow! my evo was smashed in 1 crash. but that was a pretty bad crash. The whole thing just slammed on my stem, even my gopro was dead lol. I might get the evo again soon.
it sheared the plastic mount from the chesty. The gimbal just had one arm bent, and EVO was kind enough and offered to repair/replace the part. but I went with the insurance route where they paid me back full price. as for the Hero4, it was smashed as well. but thanks to Bestbuy geeksquad warranty, I walked out of the store with a brand new hero5.
Why? Amazon has a massive counterfeit problem. They also ship returned goods that won’t truly qualify as new. There is statistical evidence for both of these things. If one of the points you made is better support because Evo is a US company go buy it on their website.

No the go pro hero five black is basically useless with any gimbal you use. If you have to use the GoPro hero 5 black then just go without a gimbal and use the internal stabilization. Other than this use you would just have to buy a different camera.
If you dont know 100% for sure that a different brand has a problem with some part of their gimbals operation (like you did) ,,, DONT SUGGEST OR MENTION that in your video.. You cant just say " youve heard that bla bla bla theres a problem ...THats very Bias and unfair... Can the mount for the hero 5 black fit the hero 4?. Sorry I just ordered one with the 5 black mount. If it doesn't, i read the wind noise is crap on the hero 5 black. I also have the hero 4. Just wondering if it would fit thanks
you have to order the hero 4 mount direct form their website I believe. when I ordered my hero 5 mount when i first purchased the item i was able to get the mount for cheap off of EVO website.

Try a lav mic to get away from the motors. Polsen OLM-10 has flat sensitivity for low noise environments. Work great within 12" of your mouth anywhere. I'd jack this guys Amazon Affiliate but I don't have one! LOL
On German Amazon they sell it under Zhiyun Reiter-M. The Feiyu Tech WG is for 182EUR and the EVO SS/Zhiyun Reiter-M for about 270EUR. Would you still choose EVO SS over FeiyuTech WG with that price difference? Heard that FeiyuTech WG will not fit Virb Ultra 30 straight away and you must get a special adapter for it. Did you have any fitting issues with EVO SS? Thanks!
Spencer Ellis no its not. I've talked to both companies, Evo gimbal has same design and initially is made in China. it has bigger stronger brushless motors as well as better firmware etc. it's more robust, splash proof etc. also it has American 1 yr warranty. zhiyun if yours breaks it's $70 one way for repair and over 2 weeks waiting. Evo you send it to bend Oregon and get it back repaired or replaced.

You killed me with this review.. lol. My first regret with buying feiyu tech, not having an adapter(I do see they make a bigger mount though) to mount the Garmin Virb Ultra which you clearly have on your EVO! Great action cam, now I have to search for the adapter for the WG, which will take 2+ weeks(China places) to get.. sucks.. EVO, puts it right out there that they have one for the Garmin.

For sure man! So far so good with it. Only one ride his past weekend on a Virginia trip, with my friends Hero4, but it performed well. Just said screw it on the adapter and ordered one off Amazon. Hey Tony, I have a question.. I recently purchased the Garmin Virb Ultra and the Feiyu Tech WG gimbal. After having 2hrs of failed attempts at updating the firmware on the WG, I returned it and picked up the Evo SS. My question is, when you have your Virb mounted in the SS, do you have a small gap of maybe 1-2mm in the mounting bracket? The Feiyu Tech fit my buddy's Hero4 snug like a glove. With the Garmin in the SS, It seems slightly bigger than the camera.
did you get the mount from EVO that was supposed to be able to hold the go pro hero 5 black and garmin virb, or do you have the one that came in the box with the EVO SS.

Dude thank you so much I'm glad you liked it, it is not rainproof unfortunately, I would advise everyone to keep this as dry as possible. However I have splashed it mildly. But I would not want ever take that chance again.

Oooh that is a good question I have no idea how much you would sweat and where! If it's from your chest I think that it will be fine if it's a lot from your chin and you think it could hit the gimbal I don't know. However you should be hanging forward to not danger the gimbal, really hard to say. Hmmm? There is a waterproof gimbal but it is not up to par for ridding Brian kennedy did a review on it. Biggest question where on your body are you worried most about sweat getting on the gimbal?

Actually it doesn't disturb me at all but I will translate my channel's name for you. O ok, cool, I totally get it!!! yes, you want to stack as many streams of income as possible. You will not make money solely on one thing, especially when you are starting out. My plan is obviously first get some money from add, then affiliate links, then merchandise, then sponsors, and then I will probably starting the patreon at some point. I want to eventually have at least 4 to 5 ways a i make money through the channel.
If that's the goal: keep going! I am just wondering if I really want this. You know... Where is the thin line between pure fun and ... work? I want to keep some magic on my channel and you know, money destroy magic ;)

I'm going to use this channel to assist others who are in need and are in need of special awareness, Something has affected and touched my life and I have to do something about and this channel is a vehicle to make a difference. i have a love and a passion for mountain bike ridding, thus I'm gonna use this vehicle of love to do something bigger than myself. Is it going to be no fun at times yes, am I going to get tired and hate it, yes! Remember, nothing worth doing is ever easy, if it was easy everyone would be doing it.

I'm thinking I'm going to purchase one of these. My Feiyu Tech keeps messing up. Fortunately I ran into a YT video on how to fix it instead of spending the $100 to ship it to China. But that doesn't help me on a trail when I just spent $100 on a rental to do a review on a few hours away from my house. Grrrr! New gimble in the near future!
Yeah man, EVO is solid and you shouldn't have any problems, they are made to be put the riggers of hell on the trail, however I still tell everyone treat it as a fragile instrument because when you go down with it, you want it to survive. Yeah, that things was horrible, and even if your gimbal is waterproof you camera won't be unless you use the hero 5, but even then water drops all over the camera ruin the footage. But since you are northern california you probably for sure get more rain then me. Im in southern california, Temecula area. Im sorry hear that about Amazon, when I first did my application for amazon affiliate links, I got denied and I had a lot purchases and lost everything when i got denied lol.
I was thinking if the Removu was good that maybe it would be a good option with the next GoPro. I would assume that the sound issues with the current one will be fixed. With the wet weather I just remember to wipe the lens a lot. I have a work trip to do some time over the summer in Irvine. I'm planning on bringing my bike. Maybe we can do something then. I'll reach out to you when I get it on the calendar. At the very least we could ride together.
ok, Ill show you my local trails, they are a world renowned secret! At least that what I hear. The trails out here are specifically built by three pro mountain bike riders, there is something for everyone out here

Unfortunately no, I had to go with a completely different camera, GoPro has offered zero solutions for us gimbal users, I just believe they did not try the Karma and Hero 6 black combination and did not realize this horrible combo before they released, GoPro really dropped the ball!!!
I'm using the Garmin virb ultra 30 camera with EVO ss gimbal.
MTBdropIN EVO got back to me saying that GoPro is going to be offering a firmware update in 30-45 days. Hopefully it will fix it. Hopefully.

Im thinking about getting a canon d70 for the vlogging and reviews, but its going to have to wait for now, and the Gopro Hero 5 black, worked pretty well in this video. I recorded everything separately and fused it together, really proud of how this turned out for my first test run of the setup.

I just got my EVO GP Pro and from the beginning I have issues with bluetooth connectivity on my devices . EVO is not visible at all in discovery mode . Any help ? Thanks
Oooh Ziggy I'm sorry to hear that man! Honestly, I have never used the Bluetooth feature. I would contact EVO they get back to you quick through email I would do it asap because they are probably closed for Father's Day. One time they got back to me in 20min. Very late to comment, but Thank you for not having a GoPro attached to this. I wish Garmin didn't get out of this market. GoPro way behind the Virb Ultra 30 even late 2019. Garmin was way a head and still are from device connectivity Ant+, data overlays.... First 4K... and many more IMHO! So many misses by GoPro. Must be good to be the perceived market leader. Their tech is lacking.. Good marketing company, tho!

wow! my evo was smashed in 1 crash. but that was a pretty bad crash. The whole thing just slammed on my stem, even my gopro was dead lol. I might get the evo again soon.

it sheared the plastic mount from the chesty. The gimbal just had one arm bent, and EVO was kind enough and offered to repair/replace the part. but I went with the insurance route where they paid me back full price. as for the Hero4, it was smashed as well. but thanks to Bestbuy geeksquad warranty, I walked out of the store with a brand new hero5.

Why? Amazon has a massive counterfeit problem. They also ship returned goods that won’t truly qualify as new. There is statistical evidence for both of these things. If one of the points you made is better support because Evo is a US company go buy it on their website.

yes that is exactly what i did speeded up in increments of 20 i think to find my sweet spot!
I prefer the Sony action cam for it's audio, video quality and because it works better for my budget. To that, can I use this gimbal with that cam?

No the go pro hero five black is basically useless with any gimbal you use. If you have to use the GoPro hero 5 black then just go without a gimbal and use the internal stabilization. Other than this use you would just have to buy a different camera.

you have to order the hero 4 mount direct form their website I believe. when I ordered my hero 5 mount when i first purchased the item i was able to get the mount for cheap off of EVO website.

Visually the 5 and 6 are slightly better but audio suck so can’t use the 5 or 6
Try a lav mic to get away from the motors. Polsen OLM-10 has flat sensitivity for low noise environments. Work great within 12" of your mouth anywhere. I'd jack this guys Amazon Affiliate but I don't have one! LOL

On German Amazon they sell it under Zhiyun Reiter-M. The Feiyu Tech WG is for 182EUR and the EVO SS/Zhiyun Reiter-M for about 270EUR. Would you still choose EVO SS over FeiyuTech WG with that price difference?
Heard that FeiyuTech WG will not fit Virb Ultra 30 straight away and you must get a special adapter for it. Did you have any fitting issues with EVO SS? Thanks!

I've talked to both companies, Evo gimbal has same design and initially is made in China. it has bigger stronger brushless motors as well as better firmware etc. it's more robust, splash proof etc. also it has American 1 yr warranty. zhiyun if yours breaks it's $70 one way for repair and over 2 weeks waiting. Evo you send it to bend Oregon and get it back repaired or replaced.
