One thing that was unusual about Miss Swanson was that she became a vegetarian and health food devotee many decades before it was trendy. Considering that she would live to 84, this may have served her well. In spite of being only 4 foot 11 inches in height, she was definitely a larger than life person!
BTW, in addition to having been married six times, one of her paramours was Joseph Kennedy, Sr. - and when she found out that he'd somehow finagled it so that she herself would pay for the 'gifts' he'd given her, it somewhat cooled the bond. Anyway, one of their mutual acquaintances later said that 'Joe still carries a torch for you!', Miss Swanson replied, 'Good! I hope it BURNS him!'
