The backwards idler pulleys are a real challenge. I did a water pump on my 5.9 Cummins and the pump itself was a 15 minute job. Getting the new belt routed added 3 hours to the job. 😂
Nothing wrong with this video, I like the little tips and tricks along the way, it helps. We probably in most cases, need to change our belts more often, I'm guilty of that myself. That way the pulleys will get cleaned off more often. Thanks for sharing.
some of the new jeeps you have to take off the top rad hose and front motor mount , that is not called progress for the mechanics or the owners who have to pay for extra labor just for replacing a belt .
Every time I worked on the f150 Triton I came out like I was in a cat fight. My opinion the Triton one of fords bad ideas. From spark plugs to the serpentine belt 👍
One tip for using that belt installation tool, add 2 pieces of vacuum hose to the tips, so it holds the belt a little better. I find the tools 2 tips are a bit short and too slippery allowing the belt to slide off.
When i do idler pulley's i also remove the seal ! clean it out the bearings and regrease them ! My grand am has 3 so i saved at least $60 not having to buy new ones !
Those MAP sensor using Chrysler's run real rich all the time most likely depending on written code rather than actual sensor input. Open that tube up on your "factory cold air intake" somehow to about twice the size and unplug your EGR valve and you will be quite surprised.
Kenny, can you add that serpentine belt tool with the long 'screwdriver' with the hook on the end to your list of Amazon choices. I want to see which one you recommend.
A pain in the patootie. Is that with a 'y' or 'ie'? I love your detail and how you show as much as you are able. Thanks for muting the microphone while using the air grinder with the polishing pad.
The front of the engine could do with a clean not just the pulleys if not the dust will continue to fall on the new belt and pulleys and shorten the new belts life. My vehicle the serpentine belt runs through the lower mounting between the engine and the frame and is a pig to change. It's like the belt was a complete afterthought. Keep wrenching
@@Michael-yi4mc Yes that’s good. Usually there is a diagram of the belt / pulley configuration on the Internet. I print that out and have it next to me to refer to while I am installing the belt

Yes, piss poor Engineering..
this is one of those jobs that sounds easy but in reality is a pain in the xxx
In some vehicles it's a down right nightmare.

Good morning Mr Kenny. Y'all have a wonderful weekend
That was really cool of you to do that. Thank you on behalf of all of us who read it.

That's one quiet 3-valve
After watching this.....i still think its magic you can do this...i am amazed!
I always start from the harmonic balancer. I don't know if that's any easier but it has seemed to help me over the years. Never did one on those.
It's a much easier task on the 2008 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor brother Kenny!
Mine has two belts.. one is for the Power Steering and Alternator the other one is for AC or something like that. Serpentine are lucky!
Great belt tool, I shall have to look for one of those 😅

Would removing the fan shroud have helped?

Good morning, brother. Absolutely! I will put the tool on the list tonight. Meg says HI 🔧
I was thinking the same thing I never knew they had something like that .always ended up using a pry bar. thanks for showing it
Great video! Is there any concern for the bearing in those pulley? Isn't it worth replacing them if they are cheap?
Belts stretch as they age and start to jump off when they get cracks in them😂😮
Kenny probably checked the idler pulleys for wobble or grinding, off camera.

it sounds like you have a factory steel wheel to stand on to give you a lift.
Thank kenny i have 2007 f-150 5.4 😁😁
Can't you take the top half of that fan shroud off? Or did Ford not think of that?
Sadly, it is all one piece. Which is stupid.
@@WrenchingWithKenny That's what I like about my wife's '04 Tahoe. Take that top half out and it looks like you have a half acre to work in. Lol
@@garyclark1135that would make Her 20 right...
That's why I have never owned a Ford! They go out of their way to complicate things.
Cracks across the belt are normal. No need to replace the belt for those cracks.
Change the belt, do the pulleys too!
That bracket for the air intake is surely overkill and heavy. Not to mention adds weight to the car.
The 5.4 isn't a very good engine, only 10-12 mpg at best and the spark plugs can break off on some models.
3:22 Belt dressing? Should NEVER put that on a serpentine belt, IMO.
God I hate routing belts. 🤦♂️
Yup! Some of them are such pains in the asses 🔧
@@WrenchingWithKenny Exactly

For A Belt !! Poor Engineering....
And that, boys and girls, is why it costs $150 +/- to "just reach in and swap out a new serp." This is what complete care looks like.
