Best Tutorial Ever! This is what I'm looking for. There are hundreds of tutorials out there but nothing like this. A lot of "Hows" but nothing on "When". When I asked different coaches, they tell me - be first, just throw your combinations, keep busy, stay busy, look busy. There is no rationale to my actions. With this tutorial I finally know when to throw the technique by having a cue. I hope you make more videos in this format.
my two cents - this looks more spinning side kick, rather than spinning back kick. Spinning back kick, the kick would impact with your hips facing down, and impacting with the heel.
Back kick is superior for versatility and speed, but turning side kick has its uses also. It has to do with clearance. The turning side kick traverses a more horizontal plane whereas the back kick is more vertical, so depending on where the opponents limbs are, one might be more advantageous than the other. It's not unlike using a hook vs uppercut.
I started muay Thai after doing 7 years tkd the kicks are all easy to me it's just the change of stance and greater dependence on hands tkd we are very side on stance focused on speed and surgical precision which is bad in muay Thai cause they will just take your lead leg so annoying to get used to
a competent tkd fighter would cut the motion with a push kick or side kick or a competition style axe kick after sliding into the pocket at at a 45 degree angle. thats why you don't waste time with the step before the spin. its better to pop up off tge ground an inch or too and turn in the air so you don't have to set up your pivot.
cliff vecera I like to use a fake teep on the way to the step...works like a charm...soon as u see em flinch...right into the spin back kick...or spin hook kick to the head...get em thinkn mid...n go high...the teep can b used n alot of ways for different circumstances
+Don Rusiru I agree. Also that first step is kinda too obvious...maybe only a twist can do the job, especially masked with a left jab (in normal stance). What do you think?
I am in the higher tier of weight and those moves (shown in the video) are reasonable to large extend, but in my category they become slower and far more visible. I had to adapt something... :D
Oh, thanks for the advice. I've been in martial arts since about 9-10 years, so I've had some time to work on going around my size. That kick works MIRACLES, very few expect it from 110 kilos of a man... :D
you hardly ever see muay thai fighters throw spin kicks. it takes too much time to transition from a square stance. your far more likely too see it from a tkd or karate fighter.
cliff vecera muay thai fighters throw wheel kicks...n muay thai n tkd is great together...most those fighters have tkd as a base n switch to mt or kb...they don't jus know tkd bro
Left Lyric i understand that. but level with me here. how often do you see a pure muay thai fight throwing wheel kicks? majority of muay thai fights go the distance with out any spin kicks period. now you get a guy in there with a tkd or karate back round and there is a high probability your going too see atleast one spin kick. and the video starts with a tkd competition featuring a tkd champ whos only other discipline is jiu jitsu.
I agree with that...u don't see alotta wheel kicks...thai fighters aren't the fanciest but the shit is brutal...especially wen u do have a good tkd background...
Muay thai this muay thai that, if you can spinning back kick and knock someone out. Who gives a shit. I train muay thai and i am the only one that does a spinning back in my gym, i get some looks. But it works. 👍🏻
taekyon and soo bak are native too korea where as tkd has tai chi, bagua, and karate influences. but tkd is just a name. fact is all martial arts are mixtures of other martial arts. in our modern times you will learn your best spin kicks at a tkd school though.

This is a terrible video. His form is off 100%.
This kick does exist in Muay Thai; it's called Crocodile Tail Strike(จระเข้ฟาดหาง). However, the fights shown in this video are not Muay Thai fights.
Nope the jorakea fad hang uses the heel kick not the spinning back kick
not exactly the one u speak of is a high heel back kick this is a spinning back kick
my two cents -
this looks more spinning side kick, rather than spinning back kick.
Spinning back kick, the kick would impact with your hips facing down, and impacting with the heel.
the hips is everything.
and I've never learnt anything in a dojo 😉
lol,
Dojang, yes.
Dojo, no...

If you want to know how to throw the kick properly with actual power then search 'Joe Rogan Turning side kick'.
You're welcome.
+yea mate yaman! Rogan made me like this kick!
Rogan's version have more pushing motion. Real power lies in the bent knee
nice vidio
ty nice tutorial
That girls gloOves are FECKIN MASSIF!!!!
Awesome video! Great to see how to practically apply this technique
when you throw this does the kick just follow circular trajectory or are you chambering the kick first?
Nice way to mask the spin love it
good job
How do I counter this technique?
Close distance if you can

cliff vecera depends on distance n position
Left Lyric all things in fighting are situational.
So y say "don't waste time with the step"...the step n the spin should b some wat simultaneous

Good Muay thai kick that doesnt use that often.
WTF ! ball of the foot? you always strike the spinning back kick with the heel!
+Don Rusiru I agree. Also that first step is kinda too obvious...maybe only a twist can do the job, especially masked with a left jab (in normal stance). What do you think?
Radoslav Kostadinov actually that is my favorite way of setting up the back kick.. the jab gets the job done nicely. But the lead hook is ok too.. ;)
I am in the higher tier of weight and those moves (shown in the video) are reasonable to large extend, but in my category they become slower and far more visible. I had to adapt something... :D
Radoslav Kostadinov well then the jab would do good also try setting the back kick with a lead teep it works gud for me!

6:30 come on man, say hi to the camera
I have a fierce spinning back kick :)
Congratulations
Same here :)

Left Lyric yes and add in some boxing and in my oppinion you have a complete striking art.
Definitely
spinning heel kick "heel"
"Ball of the foot??" Ummmm he means the heel right?or does he really throw his with the ball?Im gunna have to watch this a couple more times.
he uses it to hit the liver as he said so he pushes out
I always feel, this kick is not favoured among Muay Thai practitioners.
this video shows all tkd fighters from rogen to capllonch and tries too claim them as muay thai.
Pretty much hoe TKD now teaching Muay thai elbows and claim its theirs right? :v
Muay thai this muay thai that, if you can spinning back kick and knock someone out. Who gives a shit. I train muay thai and i am the only one that does a spinning back in my gym, i get some looks. But it works. 👍🏻
😎😎😎😎
Taekwondo, Karatedo,not Muay Thai :(

This is so fucking wrong
It's a Taekwondo technique. not muaythai.
Wtf is a taekkyeon ?

taekyon and soo bak are native too korea where as tkd has tai chi, bagua, and karate influences. but tkd is just a name. fact is all martial arts are mixtures of other martial arts. in our modern times you will learn your best spin kicks at a tkd school though.
.
I learned Tae Kwon Do for a couple years and it has definitely taught me a great spinning back kick, and other kicks in General.
Nah lol. Its Muay thai's kick.
thats taekwondo and karate not muay thai as far as i see they only use the standard roundhouse kick in the ring,a few front kick here and there
