Photographing forests without fog is really one of the ultimate tests of a photographers composition. In some ways Simon feels like a photographers photographer because we know how hard those scenes actually are to shoot.
Fantastic Simon, I was talking about this a few days ago, I called it photographers mist, when there is no mist whatsoever. Beautiful images, as always Simon, inspirational. Thank you
Lovely video, and cracking images. I live in London, so misty conditions are fleeting! The local woods and country parks I visit do not offer great 'separation' therefore it is extremely difficult to get a coherent image, although It doesn't stop me trying!
Simon, you always amaze me, incredible images. The 1st image was fantastic and the images just continued too amaze. I know you don't want to hear this but it is time for another book. SERIOUSLY. Thanks for an incredible journey thru images. Please keep up the outstanding work.
I can't believe you haven't sold out on Gathering Time. Truly a beautiful publication. Please I don't mean to be pushy I am just anxious. Thanks again for sharing your talent with us..
Absolutely fantastic video Simon thank you for sharing it and beautiful photos also. What ever the conditions its always a pleasure to see the photos you create
Simon - Beautiful images, just gorgeous! Mist in my part of the world (SE Australia) is not all that common, so you need to adapt in ways you suggest. However, there are no autumnal colours to speak of, so you might think this makes it even more difficult, but in reality it does not. To compensate, our woodlands provide lovely tonal and textural variations combined with sometimes wonderful contrast and a typically much softer palette. Together these qualities offer wonderful photographic opportunities as long as you are prepared to take your time and look. As you so rightfully point out, woodlands are ever changing and this is true everywhere.
Always high quality videos and lots of photography. You described the photographic conditions that I prefer most, also because they are not easy to manage. Give a caress to Maggie :)
I am inspired by every video you put out. I am working on my woodland photography compositions and I recognize how difficult it can be. And yet, no matter how frustrating it gets, these videos ground me in whats important: being present in the woodland. Thanks Simon! Beautiful images!
As always I'm amazed by the beauty of your imgages but this time I had the surprise of knowin that I'm doing the same of you. I have to adapt myself to the nature that's around me : no mist at all , steepness and impossibility to leave( for phisical reasons) the rare roads that cross local ,very complex woodland. Results clearly are not the same but the idea is similar.Thank you again a caress to Meg.I already ordered the calendar . Sorry for the language ,I try but it' very difficult to express my thoughts
Another great video Simon. The combination of the woodlands experience, your insight, and the resulting images are superb, providing we, the, viewers an enjoyable experience as well.
Thank you, Simon, for this inspirational video. Living in the middle of Brazil, we rarely have misty days, so we have to do everything with light, colour, composition, and texture. Thank you for sharing your beautiful images and deep knowledge.
Wonderful and very educational Simon, I'm guilty of often heading out early morning for woodland photography, but should make more use of the evenings to make use of this effect.
Great video Simon. I always enjoy your photography. I find it very challenging to take good pictures in the forests. You make it look easy, and the pictures are so esthetically pleasing. But I know how much time you put into it. It is good inspiration for me to go on out tomorrow and explore more of the forests nearby. I ordered your calender as a early christmas present to myself. It will look good on my wall. Thank you
Have you ever been to Canada for photography Simon? I’m always impressed by the breathing room in your photographs and wonder if that comes with European woodlands or if you have experienced extremely dense and chaotic woodlands and how you manage the sense of spacial separation in your images so well?
You have a superb eye for woodland composition, especially composing colours, so your images in clear conditions are way better than most people could hope for, but I'm sorry - misty conditions still make images that are 5x or 10x better in my opinion 😊
Thank you! As a generalisation, I disagree, mist is fantastic to have but it's just one element that's commonly given too much weight. It can often elevate images, but sometimes make them worse. Then there's the whole subject of intent, but that's for another discussion :-)
Watching you traipse off trail, I often wonder about ticks. I rarely leave the trail but for a couple feet because where I live there is a tick issue in the woods. Do you have ticks over there across the pond? If so, how do you protect yourself and Meg?

Many thanks! That's much appreciated :)
Spot - very relatable - I try look at it as a challenge
at 13:00 the trees look like they are walking. Thank you for sharing this video.
Excellent! Each image is a keeper!
Really love, AND, Meg has gotten to celebrate so many best days ever!
Simon, I once referred to you as the Tree Whisperer and you showed us that again. Creating a composition from chaos. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for your kind words, Greg! :)
A modern-day Lorax, You sir speak for the trees!
Thank you very much 😊
Thank you again for inspiring and encouraging us, Simon

I love how you took pictures without fog and still have them look so amazing! Very educational, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it Elly 😀

Excellent video. Thank you so much. Learning this is especially useful at this time of year with the trees in different colors.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you!

Thank you very much indeed, Thomas! Haha, another book is a way off. I still need to sell my remaining copies of Gathering Time :-D

Thank you very much. From the very limited number of pictures I've seen from Australia's woodlands, it does look very nice indeed :-)
Great pictures!
12:56 and the one before are amazing.
Many thanks :)
Your images are stunning Simon! Your colour palette is beautifully subtle, especially in the greens. Wonderful video 👏
Thank you very much Paul 😊
Great explanation on how to get wonderful images without fog. Love your images as always
Hi Wim! Thank you very much :)
Always high quality videos and lots of photography. You described the photographic conditions that I prefer most, also because they are not easy to manage. Give a caress to Maggie :)

Many thanks Enrico! I understand you perfectly :-). Meg says thank you too ;)
Great insight Simon, thank you. Although we do get mist here in N.Ireland, more often we don't. You should post more non mist pics.
Superb video and great advice as always Simon. Always makes me wanna pick up my camera and head out when I watch your vlogs. Many thks.
Thank you very much. Great to hear, John :-)

Beautiful images, explained extremely well. Thanks, Simon
Educationally inspirational, Simon! And such a wonderful set of images to back it up too 🙌🏻
Thank you very much Martin :-D
Thanks for uploading, wonderful images as ever..
I just love the photos. Every photo you take, looks like a painting. How do you do that? I would love to know. :)
Wonderful and very educational Simon, I'm guilty of often heading out early morning for woodland photography, but should make more use of the evenings to make use of this effect.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you :)
Great photos Simon! Hard to avoid sky where I live - the landscape is generally very flat :-/
Many thanks Artem! That's a shane but hopefully an enjoyable challenge for you :)
Excellent work!

Thank you very much Christian! If it inspires you explore your local forests then brilliant :-D Many thanks for ordering the calendar!
Hi nice video, loved the music half way through on the 2nd picture...what is the track called please? Thanks
Good reminder not to become dependent on extremely good , and rare, conditions

I haven't photographed any woodland in Canada. I'd of course love to give it a go someday :)
@@SimonBaxterPhotography I'm sure an opportunity will arise for you one day! I could see you having a great time up here in the great white north!
Thank you very very much for inspirational video. You have a new subscriber. Great work. (Sorry for my bad english) 🙂

I would be really interested to see those too complicated not for Instagram images. How about a website?

Yes, we have ticks. It's extremely rare for me to get one and Meg is treated :)
I'll bet you are the only person in the UK who is sorry when there is no fog hehehe.
I think you are the grand master or forest photography.
We don,t get mis or fog in New Mexico.
