I don't think I'd considered the tors of Dartmoor as my friends until you mentioned how you consider some trees as friends. That's really got me thinking! Beautiful photographs and I really enjoyed watching you capture them. 🙂
Just came over from TH's video to watch your take, Great video . Thank you for your videos over the year . looking forward to neext years videos. have a great christmas and Happy new year !
When I saw the Krampus of 2019, I was thinking to myself "Woah that's a great image" and now tha t I saw the 2023 version I feel like the new one is way better . Congrats!
Sooo glad when I see a video from you. Want more. Each time you reveal a little more about who you are along with the photo instruction. Great photography and great guy. Please know that you make a difference. (Nice to see Tom with you)
Hi, great video!!! I'm a new subscriber to your channel! I'm from Tom's channel! I shoot the a7r5 and I love the camera for landscapes!!! Your photos are amazing!!!👍👍👍
Beautiful weather for such trees! It was worth the wait! I didn't realise that the Krampus tradition is also practised in Scotland. I only knew it from southern Germany and Austria
That Krampus image you took this year and back in 2019 is so cool, yes I did ponder on the word I would choose to describe the images and I decided on "cool" 😜 but the image also has a mystic feeling which goes along with the Krampus tale. I like that you called the trees characters in your photos, you and Thomas seem to have very similar tastes. 😎👍
I remember bumping into you that day Simon at the car park. I got one of my favourite images the following morning, following some flurries overnight. Sadly the Silver Birch that was between the trees that you were shooting and the larger birch back towards the road is no longer there. Hope you are keeping well.
Hi Steve! Ah yes, I remember seeing a few years back that a gamekeeper had drilled a huge hole into the base of the birch's trunk to kill it off. I was fuming about that as it was beautiful tree :-( There was lots of birch regen which has been removed too.
Another great video! For some reason FB algorithms have been avoiding send you to my feed! Hopefully I now have them back on track because I love your work! Thanks for taking me along!
What great conditions and beautiful images! I'm enjoying my Trees for Life calendar; it's a treat to get such images for such a good price (and good cause).
Merry Christmas Simon and Meg! You never cease to impress with your dedication to the craft and Krampus 2023 is a beautiful image - I really like the the tree on the right being dominated.
Hi Simon, finally another video from you and … it is awesome. I admire how you always calm down nowadays speedraces of pictures, impressions and jumpcuts. People, photographers, artists like you or Thomas H. or Nigel D. or Mads P Iverson make this world a better place. This Krampus has something. I like it more in his treeform, than masked sweating people. Merry Christmas and liebe Grüße, Daniel, Berlin, Germany. 😊👍🖖🍀
It's funny, I see something completely different in the two trees. I see an aging old man, seeking to lean on the younger, still stronger man while trying to keep his balance with his other arm, which is now atrophied to the point of being useless. Thank you for a nice video and Merry Christmas.
I've watched both videos, yours and Toms, neither of you need to 'Chase Awe'... you're both Awesome already! Happy New Year to you both and your families
Thanks Simon, awesome as always. What a wonderful Xmas present to your followers including your Patreon supporters, I'm one of them. Already thinking of relocating from the East Midlands to Yorkshire next year, just starting to think I need to include North Yorkshire in my search.
What some fantastic conditions, amazing photos and great name. Calendar is wrapped, ready for me to unwrap at Christmas :D. I hope you and your family (and Meg) have a great Christmas.
Hi Simon, absolutely beautiful photos and wish you a Happy New Year. Btw, when I took a look at your gallery "Through the woods" (amazing), the photo named "Forest Bathing" caught my attention. It appears due to the forms, shapes and shadows on the bark of the stem it gives one the illusion of seeing a face on the stem. Cheers'n best regards from Munich.
Thank you for this video, I enjoyed it so much! Such a beautiful landscape with gorgeous trees. I can see why you love Krampus so much, it really is an unique character. Merry Christmas!!
the Krampus, part 2, is a very powerful photo! I think I like this version better than the first composition. The trees afterwards are so sweet, they look like taken with an infrared camera. It's looks like almost black and white, but just almost, I can see some faint colors that make the photos so smooth. Or it's my screen or my imagination ;). Thanks for another nice video. Cheers!
Many thanks! Yes, I can see what you mean about the infrared look. I've tried preserve the natural colour which was quite monochromatic with a hint of blue :)
Excellent video, Happy holidays to you ,Meg , and Tom. Beautiful work, I definitely appreciate the snow and frost pictures. Glad you guys could get together. Thanks as always for taking us along.
Difficult call there, Simon, but I think the Dec '23 Krampus just has the edge in terms of menace. ;-) Merry Christmas to you and yours, especially Mythic Meg!
Lovely video Simon..I initially thought the Whitby footage was just a normal group on a Baxter/Heaton workshop ! Easy mistake to make ! Love the subtle changes over 5 years in Krampus and looks like still new growth towards the top so hopefully more return visits for you to come. I really miss my Scottish trips with conditions up there sometimes just like nowhere else and as usual you've captured that beautifully. Have a great Christmas
Many thanks Nigel! I was expecting things to look worse as the gamekeepers are keen on killing trees, but I was pleased to see the pines still showing endurance :) Merry Christmas!
Hi Simon. I always find this transitional period between Autumn and Winter a difficult time for woodland photography and tend to spend time scouting rather than taking images. As always, your video has provided much needed inspiration (and definitely some motivation !) so a big thanks from me for sharing. Really enjoyed hearing your thought processes to approaching a re-visit to this location. Your images here, as always, are beautiful. Best wishes to you and yours for Christmas and the new year.
Many thanks Tim! Yes, winter can be tricky and I typically don't like lone trees in fog but the frost and snow made a bit difference here. Merry Christmas!
Hi new subscriber. At last another photographer that takes the dog out, I was beggining to think I'd made a huge mistake and my photography would be over but seeing it's possible to take the dog I'll continue. I have one dream when I start exploring in April....to be someone. My dream is for a well known photographer to ask me to photograph with them. I'm not too bad as an all rounder coming runner up in a large amateur wildlife of the year competition so who knows. Great shots Simon. Happy New Year.
Beautiful and so surrealistic shots around 2:45 . Would fit in e.g. Blade Runner 2048 without any edit. It would be great when you under expose the shot and light paint the first tree with a strong led light and use long exposure time, just a thought. Thanks for sharing and enjoy the snow while it lasts.
Outstanding images in this video, and great to hear your compositional process. Probably not going to get those conditions often in Australia though. 😁 Merry Christmas.
I enjoyed this video. I was feeling a little grumpy today and the moment I saw Meg, she snapped me out of it! There is something about dogs, they really are special. They can perform magic! This calendar… are some of your photos in it as well?
Viewing this in 32 degress celcius in Australia. 😀
Beautiful, beautiful pictures
Many thanks Anna!
Found you through Thomas's video. Loved your Krampus images and the story / imagination behind them. Subbed Simon ty
Really nice video. Thanks and Merry Xmas from warm and humid Queensland.
Merry Christmas to you and your family
Thanks for sharing, I just now found your channel. Great work and I am looking forward to catching up.
Great video!!!
I don't think I'd considered the tors of Dartmoor as my friends until you mentioned how you consider some trees as friends. That's really got me thinking! Beautiful photographs and I really enjoyed watching you capture them. 🙂
I subscribed and chose all notifications. I saw you in the Heaton blog, and I looked over your list of videos, which do look interesting.
Nice video…love to Meg as always ❤
Krampus Pt 2 (aka Krampus Attacks) was quite beautiful.
Simon some great images. You and Thomas work well together, please continue this partnership.
Just came over from TH's video to watch your take, Great video . Thank you for your videos over the year . looking forward to neext years videos. have a great christmas and Happy new year !
I always love to see the joy that Meg has in the outdoors. Loved the snow clinging to the tree bark.
I just love your ability to view composition in places that most photographers will ignore, myself included
Many thanks 😊
When I saw the Krampus of 2019, I was thinking to myself "Woah that's a great image" and now tha t I saw the 2023 version I feel like the new one is way better . Congrats!

That's very nice of you to say. Thank you very much 😊
Excellent Simon - beautiful conditions...
Persistence conquers resistance.

Beautiful weather for such trees! It was worth the wait!
I didn't realise that the Krampus tradition is also practised in Scotland. I only knew it from southern Germany and Austria
Thank you! I don't think it's widespread but Whitby (in England) is a magnet for this type of event :)

Merry Christmas! Worth the years and years of waiting
What fantastic atmospheric conditions and stunning images.
Beautiful photos! Thank you for sharing
It’s really great! Thank you for journey in to landscape photography!
Enjoyed the Krampus story. Good perspective on how to capture a tree, or group of trees. Helpful!
Beautiful images, but no less than what I am used to seeing from you. Well done.
Thank you very much 🙏
Love your work and really enjoyed this. Your ideas and how you see composition within a scene are brilliant. Thank you 🙏 📷😍
Beautiful photos and video. Thank you Simon. Wishing you a Merry Christmas with your family.
Thank you very much and Merry Christmas to you and yours :)
Not just the photography but loved the story and mix of footage, oh and you best of got Tom with a snow ball! 14:48 exquisite 😍🫶
Thank you very much Mali! I'll get my revenge when he least expects it :-P

Thanks Simon, Krampus is always a good subject but I love soo .. much your new compositions .Merry Christmas to you and Meg!
Many thanks! I'm a big fan of the square image which I shared on Instagram earlier 😀

Great video. 😊 Some very beautiful scenes in it, which were worth the wait. I hope you don’t have to wait this long again, though. 😅
Many thanks Marvin! We'll see what this winter brings :-D

Such thoughtful dialog and composition. Love it, Simon. Well done. The images were wonderful.
Thank you very much 😊
wow, really amazing how little that scene has changed over the years. great work!
I think I prefer the 2023 version of Krampus for one reason. The top has grown and become bigger which makes it appear more domineering.
I think I have to agree. The different perspective has also helped 😃. Thank you

The real Krampus is the friend we made along the way and that means Tom

Maybe in Tasmania or in the Australian "Alps"?
@@rodneytopor1846Yeah! Maybe! There's always hope.
I enjoyed this video. I was feeling a little grumpy today and the moment I saw Meg, she snapped me out of it! There is something about dogs, they really are special. They can perform magic! This calendar… are some of your photos in it as well?
Glad you enjoyed it and Meg! Yes, all 12 are my photos :)
Just remembered that Heaton used to have a dog like that, did you adopt it or does he still have his =)?
Meg need attack dog training for a retain Mr H 😂
What is your favorite lens for tree photography?
24-70 GMii :-)
Is your thought process for visualizing and naming trees based on some type of demonic movie?
