Nashimoto-P feat. Hatsune Miku - Enko Girl (translyrics/english interpretation)

  • wow. this song was extremely hard to write translyrics for. the cadence at which miku sings makes it so that a syllable-per-syllable composition method would make it take FOREVER and also be nearly impossible, but i like to think i did a pretty good job. they're singable, but certainly takes a bunch of practice- can't be helped, although you can see the lyrics here: pastebin.com/Y...
    needless to say i am not translyricizing another nashimoto song for a while! (well.. i have everybody love sally and playing alone in the works. but who knows.)

    edit 2: i just released translyrics for My Honey in the Tragic Dimension. if you liked enko girl, i think you're going to like that one. here's the link: ruclips.net/video/Lhkzxa5Iu0o/видео.html
    edit: WE REACHED 200K????? WOW. THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE! one of my translyrics having 204k views (as of writing this) is a huge achievement for me. i'm still alive and i'm working on a few lengthy projects, including one with a famous nashimoto song. i think you will really like it. it's sort of like enko shoujo, but... you'll see when it's out. i'm also possibly entering a stage of my life where i have time to upload like i used to again. in the final push of something big.
    i really enjoy it when people share how they feel about the song, or the lyrics, or what they think it's about. i read every comment i get. though you are but one viewer, you have made my journey a lot better. thank you again.
    old post:
    we are nearing 200k views now. 10 months ago, i made a post saying i was trying to think of something to do to celebrate this milestone. i'm still thinking about it, but it probably won't be on youtube and very few will see it.
    this means a lot to me. i know most of you are coming here for the song and not really for the lyrics, but growing up i wrote poetry all the time. the fact so many of you saw what i consider the continuation of my work and enjoyed it is more than i've ever dreamed of. from the bottom of my heart, thank you. i also know a lot of nashimoto-p fans are on the younger side- you guys are the next generation of vocaloid fans, and it fills me with pride and joy to keep this song alive. i want to do more older songs in the future.

    So basically my interpretation of it is the 'Miku' had a friend/crush who was innocent and sweet but once they hit highschool things changed. People began to talk about sex, how to get to and do things that were over sexualized. This girl began to wear lots of makeup and her personality changed, she acted like other girls who were giving out their bodies but Miku didnt want to believe it. As time goes on rumors spread about this girl and how she is having sugar daddy type relationships, Miku is disgusted but again doesnt want to believe it, she is sure the girl is a virgin. Then oneday at the train station she sees the girl with an older man, being very close and touchy. They leave together into a dark alley where its obvious they are having a sexual encounter. Miku wants to call for her but cant find her voice. The truth crashes on her and she realizes theres nothing to be done

    The "I LOVE ME" at the end gives me the idea that she was not a third party in the story, but rather the Enko Girl herself, she was singing as she was reminiscing her childhood days before she got messed up. But lemme replay the music and try make a better analysis.

    This song for me, standing from a complex position on it… is definitely self-referential. For me it feels like she’s talking about herself as the girl, the conflict between her desire to be needed and her sense of innocence (which is speaking)
    But it’s not the logical or easy explanation.

    So, I see multiple interpretations of the song, and I feel like the only one who see that such interpretation so imma explain it. (Also ik it might be wrong but yeah) So what I thought this song was about is that maybe miku started developing some crush on some other girls, at a time where everyone else talk about adult fun time stuff. So like, miku would maybe not into that sort of stuff except that girl would yes indeed as other interpretations, develop a sugar daddy relationship with some dudes. And miku wouldn’t believe it and would be sad and stuff because of that due to the rumors of the relationship with the girl and the random man she’s with. I’m not going to explain further I think y’all can see what I mean

    i don't understand why the comments on this video specifically seem to have such a romanticized/metaphoric interpretation of this song, and nothing about the more blatant subject of avoiding your female classmate through high school while jacking off to her becos you're disgusted by her "deviancy" of being sexually exploited and not admitting you've always had a crush on her, and regretting this when you're still obsessed with her as an adult? really i think assuming the song's perspective is from that of the girl just because it uses miku's voicebank is rather shallow

    • @117lyrics
      @117lyrics  Год назад +21

      i agree with the spirit of your take but i dont think youre right about jacking off to her then stopping liking her bc youre disgusted by her being sexually exploited. its a massive stretch and quite frankly a complete oversimplification of the song:
      - first and foremost, the singer does admit to themselves they have had a crush on her for a long tim!. the chorus describes the singers struggle with carnality/sexual urges and not getting what they want (satisfaction and relief from those urges through her). just because it isnt laid out literally doesnt mean it isnt heavily implied!
      - secondly, no this is not about the singer being disgusted by the deviancy of sexual exploitation. at the 4:00-ish mark the singer isnt saying its embarrassing and vile because shes sexually exploited, theyre saying its embarrassing and vile because they clearly have massive issues with their urges and have gone through puberty in a terrible way! sexuality is repudiated from the very beginning of the song and we get a clear hint as to why in the chorus as well as the first verse: back when they were in middle school and when they were "kids", there was no such notion of sexuality or sexual exploitation to begin with. the first verse of the song explores the contrast between innocence and carnality. its not about how much of a crush hes had on her and stops liking her
      - the overall theme of the song is NOT "i liked this girl but i found out shes being sexually exploited so now i dont". thats not how it starts nor how it ends. ultimately only nashimoto can tell us what he meant with this song, BUT as the one who wrote the translyrics and stayed as true to the original lyrics as possible, the overall theme is a looooot more like "puberty hit me like a brick and i grew up both cowardly and perverted, and now after all these years realizing this girl just gave herself to a rich man this only convinces me adulthood is rotten". also if it were as simple as youre describing why would the singer - practically an incel if were going by your take - not believe the rumors he heard? even though the singer saw her years ago with that old man they still took many years to accept it
      nowhere in the song is the girl blamed or described as a terrible person for being sexually exploited the song is not about that... at the end of the song, both the girl and the old man are referred to as demons from the perspective of the singer.
      + lastly you have no idea how old that girl was, an enko shoujo is a young girl who dates older men for their money its never said "while we were in high school she started dating men for money". its implied theyre both young adults and your take is extremely black-and-white: are sugar babies all sexually exploited? if anything, its heavily implied if not flat-out said witnessing the girl as an enko shoujo happened AFTER graduating from high school, at which point they are both adults, at least according to both the original and translyricized lyrics.

    • @117lyrics
      @117lyrics  Год назад +14

      overall im no one to tell you what is right and what is wrong in interpreting this song. your interpretation is your own. but i really hope you can come to see this song for more than what youve described because it feels like an incredibly shallow simplistic take on the song. all ive said is not a defense of the singer or their ideals, like i said they have a lot of problems and yet many people can relate to this song because it symbolizes the loss of youth and innocence...

      @@117lyrics ah, i do get what you're saying here but i think this is mostly an issue of me leaving my comment to be as brief as possible and not getting into it giving the impression that i said all that with an overall negative or bad faith view of the song's narrative, especially since i wasn't really trying to give a 1:1 on what 'happens' in the song. rather i wanted to comment on the sometimes contradictory and muddy and oftentimes harsh to describe feelings nashimoto-p conveys in these sort of songs, if that makes sense?

    • @117lyrics
      @117lyrics  Год назад +9

      @@ebitachy absolutely! i completely understand what you mean. this song is one of his most intense and when i show it to someone outside of the vocaloid sphere i have to tell them im not someone who thinks sex work is evil or that being sexually abused makes someone worth "less" as a person. i share your sentiment and a lot of people just completely miss the point of the song in the opposite way to what i thought you meant, others will take away "sex = bad" when im personally very... not even tolerant (not saying im intolerant read on) bc people shouldnt have to be tolerated by anyone, i just put the sanctity of free will above all so as long as youre not directly harming anyone do what you want! but as im saying a lot of people will take the simplistic approach youve described very well

      @@117lyrics BAHAHA I've been telling my friends about this song and how I interpret it in a COMPLETELY different way than ppl use to.
      in my head this song is about a girl who sees her friends starting to go through the transition from child to teenager, basically the whole experience of puberty and how hormones can affect people.
      however, although she feels the differences, she does not feel a genuine desire to have sex or have a romance, so much so that she finds it disgusting, and even so she still tries very hard to have this desire, because that's what everyone feels except her.
      the "I love you, I miss you, I want you" and how she says that these words are stupid and meaningless only shows this more clearly, she speaks in an attempt to feel something and fails at it.
      it's like a frustrating feeling of wanting to love, touch, feel someone, but not being able to. anyway, it's just how I interpret the song! but it's really the aromantic and asexual experience for me, so this song means a lot to me hah

      that is something i felt a lot when i wrote the lyrics for this song. so maybe! i don't think even nashimoto could tell us at this point. this song has clearly resonated in so many different ways with so many people. it's art

      the song is about compensated dating: young women who go out with men for money and gifts-like sugar babies, in america.
      “enko” is the shortened term for “enjo kōsai”, meaning “compensated dating”. “shoujo”, meaning “girl”, tells us the one partaking in compensated dating is a teen.
      the one saying “i love you/i need you/i want you” is the older man, the replies being from the school girl.
      of course you can interpret songs to mean anything you like, i am just sharing the original story behind what was written.

      huh, could have sworn i answered your comment. enko is a district in japan where girls go to sell their bodies- so an enko shoujo means a prostitute

      "Enjo kōsai" is a type of transactional relationship, It's not always about sex but most of the time it is and that's why nowadays is an illegal practice in japan.
