I remember when I lived and worked in VN and just laugh to myself when I hear my fellow Americans telling me how Communism kills business, destroys entrepreneurial spirit, etc. I see China and Vietnam and I thought to myself if we could do half as good as those 2 countries, the US would have so much less income and wealth gap. We are so ignorant of the world. Another big thumbs up for your willingness to do non-touristy things. I love how you've been able to enjoy sitting and enjoy your food or tea and just watch the world goes by. We picked up on that and use that to cut our pizza now 🙂

When you stay in a country for few weeks, you should not say that you fully understand the life of people in that country. In Vietnam the gap between rich and poor are huge. The corruption in Vietnam and China help people in power get insanity rich. They possess several million dollars properties by doing nothing while the poor barely survive day by day. Their salary is about 5 million dong a month. You can do the math how they pay for food and rent with that money.
@@VienNguyen-tp5rf - I lived and worked in VN for 9 years from 2002 to 2011. I also traveled extensively to our Hanoi operation. I lived in Thu Duc district too, not District 1 or 2 or 7 where the expats lived. I rode scooters eventhough I had transport privilege as an expat. The ordinary people in VN have health insurance, affordable health care unlike the US where it's super expensive BOTH in terms of health insurance and cost of health care. They have access to fresh food at good price unlike the US where the poor can only buy processed and unhealthy food. Their education is top notch in terms of value (you should look up PISA results for VN) and cheap similar to Europe unlike the US where an in state college tuition is more than $25,000 per annum, making unaffordable to many. Their society is safe from serious crime and I've seen first hand where the neighbors ran out to stop a pick pocket unlike the US where we look away at crime scene as they occur. You talk about corruption, what do you call our society here in the US where our government accepts money from the gun industry to not implement ANY law to regulate gun violence?!?! We have increasing number of mass shootings, ie shootings where 4 are killed, anything less then 4 deaths are not counted. What kind of society would a government allow increasing number of mass shootings in SCHOOL where children are killed and the government doesn't do anything about it? Where the majority of the police force have systematic racial based killings? You talk about corruption, what do you call a government like the US that protects and steal the tax payer's money to bail out irresponsible companies and banks?!? What about homelessness? How can the richest country like the US have INCREASING number of homelessness AND continuous reduction in middle class and REDUCING homeownership. The GDP per capita of Vietnam in 2022 and 2023 is approximately $4,250, ie $350 or 8.4m VND, NOT 5.0m VND as you false state in your comment. Moreover, World Bank and IMF have repeatedly stated they believe VN's GDP is UNDERSTATED by at least 10-20% which means the the $4,250 is more likely to be $4,800 to $5,000 which makes mthly income at approx 9.6m VND. And unlike your falsehood about poverty, below is the link to the US run World Bank on VN's reduction in poverty rate which indicated poverty rate of around 5-6%. Poverty rate in US is 11%. This is due to OVERALL affordability in VN, ie not just food but overall cost of living including cost of housing. This is a statement of how VN has managed its economy and inflation effectively, UNLIKE the US where affordability is a growing problem - so much for "human rights" and "democracy".
