    The family I babysit for has an open concept kitchen, living and dining and I really like it. It's nice to be able to cook and watch the kids at the same time. Plus, we can eat dinner and have music playing on tv! If I ever have my own home, I'd want a formal dining space to be it's own room though. For entertaining purposes.

    When my family moved into my current home, the open concept was great to be able to watch us and also be in the kitchen, but now that we are older- It can become VERY loud and chaotic. Someone is trying to watch TV, someone is playing with the dog, there's someone else watching stuff on their phone, and then someone else is cooking! We personally don't want an open concept for our next house, but it does have its good aspects to it!

      We have a closed concept home and when people with open concepts come over they say they love it and we look at them crazy because we want an open concept 😂 Everyone will stand in the kitchen and talk because our bar area isn’t in the most convenient spot to have conversations.

  • @seriliaykilel
    @seriliaykilel 7 месяцев назад +84

    On open concept -- it's phenomal for kids (so you can see where they are) and for hosting (so you're not isolated in the kitchen while entertaining). That said, a mess in one area, makes everything look messy, so requires more cleaning/upkeep than closed off spaces.

    I have no idea how you managed to use that oddly-shaped, basic shell and turn it into such a beautiful, modern home, but you did and it is amazing. I'm gobsmacked at the final product. Well done, you're incredible! 😍❤️

    I'm really happy NOT having an open concept home, as I like being able to close the kitchen off from the rest of the apartment (I do sleep in my living room though). But in The Sims, I really like them!

  • @nicklausendicott
    @nicklausendicott 7 месяцев назад +45

    Open concept plans looks good for pictures, but I find it so *loud*. You can hear everyone doing everything. That's really my biggest selling point for closed concept.

  • @suzzzzanna
    @suzzzzanna 7 месяцев назад +21

    I like our open concept 90% of the time. But it requires compromise with my husband sometimes if one of us wants to watch something the other doesn't, or if I want to cook while he's watching something (the kitchen lights can cause glare on the TV if it's a dark show and the range hood sound or running sink water mean having to turn up the volume)

    • @nyangtries2645
      @nyangtries2645 6 месяцев назад

      you can install a sliding divider so if he's watching tv and you are cooking you can just roll it up there are compact types for this and stylish ones. Just a suggestion 😊

    I have an open concept layout, and I haaaaate it! Grew up tho in a house that had rooms closed off from each other and really preferred that layout -- my grandmother's house also had closed off rooms for the main living areas. Both were very old houses. I just like not having to match all my furniture because you can see it all when you walk in the door. Like, let me have mismatch woods and patterns because it's different rooms!

    Currently living in a semi open concept condo. I think that this is the best Floorplan idea because there's a pass through breakfast bar halfwall between my kitchen and living room and with my dining fully open to the living room and the kitchen open to the entryway and hallway. I have the ability to close pocket doors on either end of the kitchen to close it from the entryway and dining, but it's open for family life and entertaining with big sliding door walls to the outside in the dining and the living rooms. Our game room/office and the laundry room both here pocket doors as well offering either open concept or closed off privacy. Only the bedrooms and bathrooms have "regular " interior doors. It makes for an amazing ballance because the house (a series of boxy rooms) doesn't feel cramped and closed in but still feels very comfy and nostalgic for my partner and I.... it also offers both privacy and plenty of ability to supervise when we have our daughters friends over

    We have a very closed concept new england farmhouse (circa 1811) and there are definite benefits but those benefits are also downsides, haha. 😅 with closed off rooms, they stay warmer, they also compartmentalize sound so it's harder to hear noise, but with that it's also harder to see people / kids. I would like it to be semi open, where we have a couple bigger openings between sitting and cooking to see easier, but I don't like open-open concept - it's too big, noisy, and often too expensive to heat or cool.

    I really enjoy having an open floor plan in my apartment:) the living room, dining room, and kitchen can all be the community area when friends come over, people can be in any of the spaces and can still talk to each other 💜

    My dads house has an open concept kitchen/dining/living and my mom is a realtor so I’ve seen a lot of them and im normally a huge fan! It just makes everything feel more open and it’s great for parties, holidays, and family events because everyone can be together the whole time without leaving the room constantly.

    When it comes to open concept I do believe it has a lot to do with where you live. I’m Scandinavian and we have very old buildings that have been renovated on the interior for open concept apartments. For me it’s a pretty standard home design.
    My mom lives in a really old building in a renovated attic. She has a sky light in the hallway, a lofted living room and a whole lot of slanted roofs. That’s a pretty standard renovation to do here.
    I also like it a lot. Being able to cook but talk to people sitting on the couch is nice. It feels way more sociable than closed of spaces, if that makes sense.

    I remember watching your videos a few years back and we talked about all the things that weren't possible in the game at that point. I was a noob and you took the time to explain many of the mechanics to me. And looking at the game now, so many things have been added. For such an old game at this point, I'm amazed at how much content the developers are still adding to it. This shell turned out so great! Well done!

    Currently living in a house with completely opened kitchen, living and dining. We play music on the TV while eating and/or playing board games tgt. It also makes the space feel so much bigger. Only downside is the smell from cooking goes to the ENTIRE house.

    I live in an open concept home, and I like it. The kitchen and dining room are completely open to each other, and there's a half wall separating the kitchen from the living room. I did a modern place (personal build, not the shell challenge) with a pool similar to that (it was on the the second/first floor going to the ground tho) and I used the funky windows that are blue too but kind of spotty and it was actually kinda fun. Gave me a use for those windows too. I've been trying to make myself use things I rarely do lately so it was fun.

    I've stayed in open concept homes for vacation, so it may be because they're cheaply built, but sound travels a lot. That's my only complaint. Otherwise it's nice to be in the kitchen/living/dining area all at once.

    I'm def not an open concept girlie. It doesn't have that cozy feeling to me. Plus you can't close doors when certain rooms are messy and company shows up. Also, not sure if anyone else feels this way but I'm so tired of seeing the home chef hustle wall tile 😅

    This is the kind of build I was always looking for when Eco Lifestyle came out, and I love it! I tend to favour more cottage style houses when I play now but I think I might have to use this in a new save. So so cool! Also, I love open concept living, but it can be noisy if there are a lot of people sharing the space. It makes the house look huge, but it's not for everyone. I think it works best over two levels.

  • @catsnameistom

    If you look at houses designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, particularly the Arthur Heurtley house, they sometimes have all the more public things on the first floor and the private living areas on the second floor. I know in the Arthur Heurtley house it has living room, dining room, kitchen, and bedrooms all on the second floor.

    This turned out so lovely! It doesn't look like a shell at all - amazing work! :D
    I love open-concept homes. I grew up in one, and the apartment I had the longest was also surprisingly open-concept despite being very old. I highly prefer it to closed off homes. I like having living/dining/kitchen as one open hub where you can do your social living things. Someone can be cooking in the kitchen while you chat from the sofa in the living room, no problem. And then the only closed off rooms are bedrooms/bathrooms for privacy. It makes a distinct "social zone" and "private zone" i guess haha.
    I definitely look for open-concept (or as open as possible) when searching for places to live when I need to move. Super closed off homes where the kitchen is shut away, dining room separated from everything, living room shut off into a separate block... idk, that always makes me feel sad, and if there isn't at least a large archway into the next space, it really turns me off from the place. It makes me feel like each room is weirdly utilitarian and jailed off from everything - even as someone who loves small cozy spaces!
    but definitely seems like open-concept is something people prefer if they grew up with it. I would guess it's just a preference based on familiarity ^_^

    I usually do open plan spaces in the Sims 4 because it is easier for gameplay. Irl, I was always taught that open plan is too much of a fire risk to have in houses, but I live in a small flat and the living room and kitchen are all in one room so half open plan I guess - I've made effort to separate the areas, so I guess I don't like open plan?

    Open concept feels better if you entertain often. It lets guests mingle without trying to shove into nooks in closed-off living areas if you've got a lot of people over. As an introvert though, I'd much rather have a cosy closed plan space. Open floor plans without the people just feel kind of cold to me.
