I'm from Dayton and still live in Ohio. This style of build is definitely very common, especially in suburban areas. Outside of the larger cities there are a lot of older farm houses. A lot of Ohio is farmland. Ohio is also home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the National Museum of the United States Air Force. I loved all your fun facts!

Native Ohioan here, born and bred. You nailed this house. This is absolutely correct. I chuckled at your "proper" sounding pronunciation of Akron. We say ak-RIN not ak-RON even tho it's spelled Akron 😂 there's a lot of that around here where local pronunciations outweigh what may be the "correct" pronunciation.

  • @rockinrandy9621
    @rockinrandy9621 7 месяцев назад +18

Hey! Southeastern Ohio resident! You nailed this one! A lot of towns have houses like this! As other people have mentioned, the rural areas have more farmhouses and older sears style homes. Also, locals pronounce Akron as Ak-rin.
Ohio is also known for having lots of state parks! The largest of which, Salt Fork State Park, is right here in my home county of Guernsey! The lake, Salt Fork Lake, was actually man made, and was built using eminent domain, forcing farmers that had lived in the area where the lake sits now to move. Some say that the roads that used to run through there are still underneath the water, and that the area around Salt Fork is haunted by the farmers who used to farm the land.
Ohio actually moved its state capital 3 times! The first capital was Chillicothe and was the state capital from 1803-1810, when the capital was moved to Zanesville for two years, only to be moved back to Chillicothe, before moving Columbus in 1816.
Last fact that I know of: Despite being the largest city, Columbus does not have the tallest building in the state. That honor belongs to Cleveland! Key Bank Tower in Cleveland is the tallest building in the state of Ohio, but it may be passed up by the Sherman Williams HQ (also in Cleveland), once it is completed!
I think it’d be really cool if you done Iowa next! It’s a very neat state and I’m actually looking to move there in a couple years!

I was born and spent my early years in Ohio. I moved back a few years ago to an area outside Akron, Ohio. I see many houses like the one you built. I also see ones that are duplexes of the one you built, you know, the same house side-by-side. This is mainly an industrial area around here and I think these houses were originally built by the company’s to house their employees. I often see people sitting on their front porches in the evenings in the summertime.

I think for South Carolina you could definitely do a neoclassical/french colonial style country/plantation house, a colorful charleston style townhouse (generally a tall long narrow rectangle with the short side facing the street), or a little contemporary beach bungalow (also can be colorful as down here on the coast the houses are colorful and attract tourists).
I will say, if you go beachy, i see a lot of houses here that are elevated off the ground and generally only the garage is on the ground floor with a stair case leading up to the front door on the second story. Very minimalist designs with tall windows and coastal decor (the southern moms love their fish net curtains and beach life pillows)😂
And pretty much for any style of house we love a good amount of balconies, columns, palms, and flower bushes.

I was born and raised on the East side of Toledo. You are bringing back my childhood with this house. I kinda wished you would have used growing together wallpaper, there's this one that looks like assault and most houses in the area are over 100 yrs old and that's what they used. Also Toledo is known as The Glass City. Ohio became the main industrial hub for the burgeoning glass industry in the late 19th century. They made everything from ketchup bottles to astronaut suits. Thank you for all of your builds but this one is close to my heart ❤️

I would really love to see Illinois. Specifically Chicago. I think when most people think of Chicago it's just the big city and down town, but there are so many unique neighborhoods that are still in the city but not down town or in the suburbs. Like single family homes all very densely packed together. I think of long and skinny homes with small back yards with a garage going out into an ally.

    Some Ohio fun facts:
    - One of their rivers caught on fire
    - Camp Perry, an army base (I think) holds these really big shooting competitions for Air Rifle and Smallbore. I believe it’s also where the Army Marksmanship Team practices.
    - It’s home to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and has a ring from every Super Bowl
    - Cincinnati’s quarterback, Joe Burrow, is considered the most attractive quarterback in the NFL
    - The Cleveland Browns have never even appeared in a Super Bowl
    - It’s where I got my dog, Riot, a chocolate lab that I love

From Tennessee here, not much I can think of that stands out, however there is a recreated castle on I840 where the yearly renn fair is taken place. It’s called “Castle Gwynn”. It has a super interesting history to it and is actually where Taylor swifts love story video was recorded. It’s a recreation of a 12th century welsh castle and its construction started in 1980, it has a heap of antiques and 16th century swords in the home. Definitely not common architecture or homes in TN, but could be an interesting thing to play with and try and do a nod too in the build!

For Illinois, what about a build that you see a lot of in and around the Chicagoland area? It's a brick bungalow, usually with an attic second floor and always with a basement. Typically, the front of the house has a bowed window and it's common they are stained glass at the top. There are thousands of homes built this way in and around where I live. It's very common in residential areas of Chicago, also common in the west and south suburbs.

Woahhh idk why but it surprises me you haven’t done Cali yet (probably cus I’m from there) butttt I definitely think you should do a California house built!! I’m looking forward to see what type of housing you do since I feel like there’s quite a few different housing styles
