I think what sets Tootsie apart was it's ability to be funny while taking itself seriously. Hoffman said he was sad when he realized they could make him into a convincing woman but he could never be a beautiful one. That caused him to reflect on all the women he ignored because they weren't pretty enough. He said it's like a man being rejected because he's short. In the end he missed out on some beautiful friendships because of his own prejudice and stupidity and he knew what it was like be passed over. Also, when his character sees how many concessions women are forced to make just to get by in this world. Telling the woman in the hospital bed not to put up with being beaten because he, as a man couldn't fathom doing that. That was such an epiphany for me.
@@jeshkam Thanks for telling what I already knew. I said he deserved the Oscar, not that he received it. What other information do you want to impart to me: that the sky is blue and the grass is green?

I saw this movie when I was 14 and I love it. I would have loved to lose my virginity to Dustin Hoffman as a woman. Very lovely. ❤💋 And you too sugar love ❤
@@joerubi6249 Funny because there was actually an alternative/deleted scene where Dustin Hoffman as Dorothy Michaels, announces to Julie that Dorothy is a virgin 🤣🔥
And also there is an episode of Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre that is like a crossover with this and Mrs. Doubtfire called The Tale of the Frog Prince because it stars Robin Williams who did Mrs. Doubtfire and Teri Garr who did Tootsie.
These were somewhat candid shots. He was curious when they asked him if he wanted to come visit the set. He being an underground film maker who often cast trans people and drag queens. He was pissed because he wasn’t even paid
@@leo-unddieAnderenActress, actually, as she is a woman. It’s a shame she had to go head to head with Jessica Lange for best supporting “actress” (notice the category?) as they both deserved to win.
I am glad they made Dustin Hoffman look nice as a woman. Even though "Tootsie" was a comedy, it would have been in poor taste if they made Dorothy Michaels look homely just for laughs. Ps. My father passed away years ago but he loved this movie too. He bought the dvd. Way to go Dustin Hoffman, you are Hollywood Royalty.
Interesting fact. The envelopes at the beginning of the video are labeled with the exact address of the studio where the Southwest General scenes were filmed.

"The Real Dorothy Michaels Strory" on the magazine cover. I wonder what "Dorothy" told them about herself!
How far can you pull back? How about Cleveland!!??
"That is one nutty hospital."
Tootsie was terrific... Dustin Hoffman brilliantly pulled it off , his role was stellar.

Great movie! This n Mrs Doubtfire are 2 of the top men in drag movies as THE best comedy films of all time!
Indeed. They are both blessed with superb actors. And great supporting casts in each.
And in Hook they duke it out with each other.

I love this movie tootsie is so pretty she makes me smile ❤️
Me too. 😊
Ahhhh sameee!!! 🤭
This is my most favorite scene next to the babysitting- poor Andy looks terrified 😂🤣

I had a stepmom who looked just like a curvier Tootsie. Seeing this video warmed my heart.
Hopefully didn't have the same nose
@shac9131 My stepmom's nose wasn't quite as big, but similar.
@BigBri550 well my dad had a honker nose and my mom's prayers were answered that none of their children would get it
@shac9131 Nothing wrong with a prominent proboscis, but shnozes don't really run in my family either.
@BigBri550 yes there is if going to model etc like I used to
I love you, Dustin Hoffman!
Out of all of Teri Garr's movies, Tootsie is my absolute favorite.
Yes. Also, i thought she was good in Oh, God and also Close Encounters of the Third Kind. A great actor.

I haven't seen this film yet but she's strangly attractive
You have to watch this! Dustin Hoffman should have won an Oscar for this. It always cheers me up when I am sad.
Strangely?? 😕
Glad I’m not the only one who finds her attractive… 👀🤭
I love this scene. Dorothy is appearing on all of these women's magazines and meanwhile it is a guy. It's hilarious!
No, she IS Dorothy and he IS Michael. Nothing hilarious about that.
Loved the inclusion of the untalented Andy Warhol. As if he were anybody important.

This movie was greatly helped by the music of Stephen Bishop.

Sad that this film's comedienne, Teri Garr was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
Thanks for the update Debbie Downer
Well, it is a challenge surely. But many have challenges which makes them strongert.
Just got out a pool have this challenge and many others to that swim. ✌️
It is sad.
Funny that no one noticed that Dorothy had male hips. It was very noticeable when wearing the tight fitting long dresses.
John J Probably because some biological woman do have narrow, or as you put it, "male," hips.
So what! I was given a female name and have male hips. What exactly is your point???
I just saw her undergarments in a deleted scene when Teri Garr's character finds them. They mention the padding.
