I have a 2018 M2 and my tail light is also broken. Going down the path of swapping to sequential LCI, can't seem to find a good manufacturer for this product though.
It’s likely just the LED if it’s only a blinker. A characteristic of the ground wire burning out is that all the bulbs fail to light. The ground wire is also an issue on the pre-LCI models, not the LCI. The electric current in the LCI bulbs is less and doesn’t strain the ground wire nearly as much. Thats why 2017 M2s had a second ground wire to fix the issue from the 2016s. The LCI supposedly has some similar issue with currents, but I don’t own an LCI so I’m honestly not familiar with it. 1, see if BMW will cover it because they extended the factory warranty for the taillights on those I THINK to 7 years. 2, see if you can just replace the LEDs as it’s cheaper than the whole taillight. 3, if still it doesn’t fix itself then you may have to replace the whole thing, or at least the backing to the housing. I would buy from somewhere like FCP so you get the lifetime warranty if it ever breaks again.
Dang, dodged a bullet here. Almost sold my Mk7 GTI for a 2016 M235i a few years ago thinking all the BMW problems were back on the eXX cars and the fXX cars were super reliable.
Don’t get me wrong, as a whole they’re very reliable. I’ve owned an F22 and 2 F87s, and this is the only one that’s given me trouble. Only issues have been this tail light, a cracked & leaking coolant cap leading to a CEL, and a battery issue which turned out to be a sensor cable not bolted down fully. Overall reliable.
Just solder a piece of wire to the metal inside the tail light housing, then “jump” the connector with the wire, and solder the new wire directly to the brown earth wire. Same issue as f30, f32 pre lci.
Ive heard that as a solution. I ended up buying the replacement parts because the connector was very badly melted. Could’ve saved on the other part, but at least it’ll be new

I thought about swapping the same way. I’ll probably do it if my second light ever goes out.
Mine is a 2018 LCI and I have the same issue but just with the right blinker light, would I have to replace the whole taillight?
