The Roy Rogers show was a Western TV series in the 1950s when Bruce Willis's character was a kid and would have picked up many of the phrases including Yippee Ki-yay and the signature song Happy Trails.
One of my favourite Xmas movies of all time. Newly subscribed. FYI…The guy who plays Karl( stringy blond hair bad guy) is Alexander Godunov! He was one of the greatest ballet dancers in the world.
The first posters for this movie didn’t have Bruce Willis’s picture on it cause at the time he was known for comedy not action and they didn’t want people thinking it was a comedy (which it’s kind of an action/comedy). It’s surprising how much control Bruce had on this film. He got to choose the actress playing his wife and how John should act. The list of people that they wanted to play John McClain is interesting. They wanted John Travolta to play McClain but Fox said no cause they figured he was a “has been”. Alan Rickman almost passed this movie up. He barely got to Hollywood and wasn’t sure about his first role being a villain but it turned out to be the best idea. 13:48 when Karl hands Theo the dollar bill was improvised by the actor thinking the guys would’ve had a bet on if Hans would’ve shot the guy. 22:05 originally he was supposed to hit the first vent but the stuntman messed up and didn’t grab the first one so they kept it in and edited in John grabbing the second vent. 33:44 when Ellis says “Hans…Bubby” Alan Rickman’s expression was real cause Hart Bochner ad-limbed the line and threw Alan off a bit. It’s also thought when they give Ellis a glass of coke is because the misunderstood him when he asked for some “coke”. 36:23 at least Ellis did one smart thing before he died. He said John was his guest and not there for Holly. 39:02 the way Hans holds his cigarette is apparently how Europeans hold their cigarettes which was supposed to be how John realized who he was. 55:39 I love how they bring back the watch that Ellis gave her. The look on Alan Rickman’s face is real the director told Alan that they’d drop him on the count of three. They dropped him 40 feet onto an airbag with a blue screen backing 58:40 that’s funny you said that they have a “Die Hard” advent calendar where each day Hans gets closer to falling to his death.
I've watched the Se7en reaction, and was blown away by Zuff's understanding of the movie and in predicting certain elements...but here at the start of Die Hard, he has trouble understanding the dynamic between John and Holly, even though it was explained clearly in exposition. Kinda of an insight into Zuff's inner workings. Also, my heart breaks each time when the first thing they think of is of Snape when it comes to Alan Rickman :( 17:48 "You have to be super qualified to be a cop". My poor innocent Zuff.
actually its the last movement of the 9th commonly refered to as the "ode to joy" from the words of the chorale and is the official anthem of the European Union
55:55 - Alan Rickman actually fell onto a "green screen" tarp in this scene. He actually did his own stunt. Director John McTiernan told Alan he was going to drop him on a count of THREE. He actually released him on a count of ONE. The surprised look on Rickman's face was authentic. He was not happy about being surprised, but the shot was worth it in the end. R.I.P. Alan Rickman.
When this film came out, us film goers only knew Bruce Willis as a comedy romantic lead - so the Director left his face off the poster - in case it put people off seeing Bruce as an action lead, but when it started to do so well, his face was added to the poster!
Funny story about Hans falling, the director told Alan that he was going to count to 3 then drop him and he counted like 1 and dropped him, thats why his look was so real with surprise.
I just want to say i really appreciate the amount of content you put out, you’re my comfort channel for sure. Love getting to just chill and watch with you guys 💕 happy holidays and keep it up
Die Hard created an entire genre that became the template for countless other imitators that followed. Bruce Willis never bettered this portrayal of John McClane in any other Die Hard films. Alan Rickman was phenomenal in the role of Hans Gruber bringing an intelligence to the role. The Christmas ingredients throughout coupled with the right balance of action, drama and comedy make this film timeless.
Not to dump on cops who do a good job for the most part, but I have a friend who became a cop because, and I quote him, it was easier than the training to become a firefighter.
I can’t believe Zuff (Zach) and Bryce have not watched this movie! It’s a classic! I remember watching it for the first time with my Mom a couple years back and I had a blast! Love the reactions. 😊
Yippee ki yay is an expression said in the old westerns from the 50's starring Roy Rogers. That's why McLane told the others to call him Roy, as he was perceived as a cowboy by Hans.
No... this movie didnt come up with Yippie Ki Yay... all this did was ad Morherfucker to it... After Hans says hes an American who wants to be John Wayne... John says "I was partial to Roy Rogers actually"... Roy Rogers was "The Singing Cowboy"... and he had a famous song where he sings Yippie Ki Yay. In the 90s Nickelodon had a cowboy sitcom called Hey Dude.. that used it in its theme song, though theirs is "Yippie ti yie yay... Like the Cowboys Say"
It would not have been difficult to cash in the bonds because they were *bearer* bonds. These bonds are unregistered, and therefore belong to the whoever *bears* the paper instrument. Hans would just need to present the paper to the issuer on the maturity date and get cash or have money transferred to whatever account he wanted with no questions asked because he had the bond paper in hand. They helped people invest anonymously, but they also were good ways to evade taxes or launder money, and they were convenient things to forge. I don't know if any companies still issue them, but no government entity in the U.S. issues them anymore for those very reasons.
The name of that movie where everyone plays them selves and use real names is this is the end, all star cast Seth Rogan, James Franco are kinda the main characters
BTW, the look on Alan Rickman’s face when he drops off the building is genuine. They dangled him above an air bag (not as high as it looks), and then told them they would drop him on “3.” I believe they dropped him on “1.” 😄
Thanks, Zuff! Thanks, Rob! Thanks, Bryce! 💥 John McTiernan directed this one. ෴ To clarify the conjecture Rob made; indeed "yippee ki-yay mutha fucka" originated in this movie... but "yippee" is from the 15th century. And "yippee ki-yay" is likely a derivation of "yippee yi yo ki-ay" which was a lyric in a song from the 1940s called "I'm An Old Cowhand" and was used in a movie. You can hear it sung by Roy Rogers on RUclips. That's probably where the character of 'John McClane' heard it from. He seems the sort to like flicks about the Old West.
At the end scene Rickman feel 30ft onto an airbag for real and the stuntman holding him said on the count of three I'll let you go. Well the stuntman dropped Rickman on 1 hence the total look of surprise on his face.👍🇬🇧☃️
It's Christmassy because the Dad is separated from his family and has a journey in order to spend Christmas with them, and along the way he learns humility, and he and his wife rediscover the love they have for each other.
YES!! BEST CHRISTMAS ACTION MOVIE! It's based on the 1979 novel NOTHING LASTS FOREVER, which was a sequel to the 1966 novel, THE DETECTIVE, which was made into a 1968 film starring Frank Sinatra as Joe Leland. Before Bruce Willis was picked as John McClane, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Clint Eastwood, Charlie Sheen, Emilio Estevez, Don Johnson, Richard Gere, Charles Bronson, Richard Dean Anderson, Sylvester Stallone, Harrison Ford, Tommy Lee Jones, William Peterson, Tom Cruise, Kyle MacLachlan, Nicolas Cage, Kevin Costner, Patrick Swayze, Peter Weller, Nick Nolte, Jeff Bridges,Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Kevin Bacon, Mickey Rourke, James Caan, Matthew Broderick, Michael Douglas, Tom Selleck, and Mel Gibson were considered. Laurence Fishburne, Wesley Snipes, and Gene Hackman were considered for Al Powell.
This movie launched careers. It was Alan Rickman's first movie, he was an unknown British stage actor until this movie launched his long career of villainry. The only thing Bruce Willis had done was a rom-com TV show called "Moonlighting," nobody believed he could be an action star until this movie shattered expectations.
Fun fact: Alan Rickman's reaction to being dropped was genuine. He was actually scared. They let him go early instead of on 3 to get a better reaction as he fell.
I just stared following you guys a few weeks ago and am really enjoying your reactions! Glad to see you reacting to this one. Die Hard has been one of my favorite Christmas movies since the first time I saw it in the theater when it first came out! 🎄 Gotta give props to Rob. This is at least the second reaction I’ve watched where Rob has already seen the movie but never says a word throughout, letting Bryce and Zach enjoy the movie without commentary or spoilers (which is also annoying for the viewers as well). 👍🏻👏🏻
Watched this movie millions of times but never get tired of it. I noticed no reactors are doing Planet of the Apes with Marc Wahlburg or Toy Soldiers with Sean Astin.
I'm sorry to say it, but man, you guys are slow! All the indicators are that she's in LA because her job took her there, but he couldn't follow her because his job was in New York. Doesn't he even say that to Argyle in the car? Argyle says 'So you thought she would crash and burn in LA so she'd have to come crawling back to you?' and McLane says 'You're pretty quick, Argyle.' But neither of them wants their relationship to be at an end, which is why she invited him to the Christmas party and he obviously said 'I'll be there if I can', which is why she isn't sure that he will turn up when she calls her babysitter.
An interesting bit of trivia: The actor that played Karl was Alexander Godunov a famour Russian Ballet dancer. He was the premier dancer with the Bolshoi Ballet troupe. He defected to the US in 1979 and while still dancing began working as a supporting actor. You may have seen him in the movie Witness with Harrison Ford. He died in 1995. Also the reason Alan Rickman looked so scared from his fall from the building is he was being held by a rope to fall 40 feet to a pad beneath but they tricked him and told him he would be released on the count of three but they released him on the count of one. All the actors in this were incredible. Even the small parts. It is just my opinion but the only one worth watching other than this one is #2. The others were good but not up to these standards. I think one of the reasons these held up so well was due to ensemble cast for both of these movies even though not all of the actors were known.
One other noteworthy snippet re: Godunov is that while he was in the act of defecting, his wife - another dancer with the ballet troupe - was kept in a plane on the runway in New York City (at his insistence) while she was given time to decide to defect as well. She eventually decided to go back to Russia, and they divorced.
I watched this movie for the first time a few weeks ago and it just made me laugh the whole time tbh. Bruce Willis with no shoes on is probably the funniest part

Also, my heart breaks each time when the first thing they think of is of Snape when it comes to Alan Rickman :(
17:48 "You have to be super qualified to be a cop". My poor innocent Zuff.
Zuff is me asking all these questions after they answered it right before 😭💀
When he says "he sounds like Snape", my thought is NO. Snape sounds like Hans.
Lol. I was like of course he does. It's just Alan's voice. All he did was talk slower as Snape.
“ that’s a wild way to land on Bradley Cooper, that guy that liked Jennifer Lawrence in that Philadelphia eagles movie”
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
When the vault opens, the music being played is Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.
actually its the last movement of the 9th commonly refered to as the "ode to joy" from the words of the chorale and is the official anthem of the European Union
@@davidrichards6509It is also a popular Christmas Carol - especially in Japan.
I still see the vault door opening while bathed in the glow of the emergency flood lights in my head every time I hear it.
Who hasn’t seen Die Hard?! I’m shooketh.
Alan Rickman is afraid of heights. The producers let him drop a few seconds too early to get that scared look on his face
I believe the teddy bear was for his daughter.
You def don't have to be super qualified to be a cop lol
I came here to say this! 😬
Most cops have a PhD in harrasment.
Not to dump on cops who do a good job for the most part, but I have a friend who became a cop because, and I quote him, it was easier than the training to become a firefighter.
Why sre they separated. He and Argyle were literally just talking about why they split. Because she got an offer and he was unwilling to move.
55:15 😂 55:55 my favorite scene.
I can’t believe Zuff (Zach) and Bryce have not watched this movie! It’s a classic! I remember watching it for the first time with my Mom a couple years back and I had a blast! Love the reactions. 😊
rob watched the movie. zuff didnt
@@EQ2877Whoops! I fixed it.
Less than 10 minutes in and I'm like "is Zuff watching the same movie? " 😂😂😂😂
It’s not Christmas until Hans falls off Nakatomi Plaza! period!
A buddy cop action comedy that takes place around Christmas is "Running Scared" with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines.
The other "Running Scared" movie with Paul Walker is good too.
The name of that movie where everyone plays them selves and use real names is this is the end, all star cast Seth Rogan, James Franco are kinda the main characters
I love the "Dude, did you just now start watching the movie!" Hw spends 5 minutes of the movie asking for spoilers Jeez-uss!!
Did you notice the gas price at the time from the station? like 74 cents/gal. Take me back to '88 19:54
BTW, the look on Alan Rickman’s face when he drops off the building is genuine. They dangled him above an air bag (not as high as it looks), and then told them they would drop him on “3.” I believe they dropped him on “1.” 😄
Rob: "I think it's an Aug".
Bryce: "It is an Aug"
Zuff: "I've got a friend named Aug"
haha--perfect.
At the end scene Rickman feel 30ft onto an airbag for real and the stuntman holding him
said on the count of three I'll let you go. Well the stuntman dropped Rickman on 1 hence the total look of surprise on his face.👍🇬🇧☃️
This movie has been a Christmas eve tradition for me the last 25 years.
It's Christmassy because the Dad is separated from his family and has a journey in order to spend Christmas with them, and along the way he learns humility, and he and his wife rediscover the love they have for each other.
Now! It's Christmas 🎄🎁
Willis was also in a movie called "Blind Date" with Kim Basinger the year before.
I wouldn't say unknown but yes he was a stage actor and acted in tv.
The guy that fell down the stairs with John was killed. He screams once in the fall as his neck breaks.
It really isn't terrorism, since they have no goals other than the heist. Even the demands later were just done to buy time.
Roy Roger made Yippee-ki-yay famous back in the 50's.
But seriously....Yippy kayay originated from Die Hard???????? Please. I have no words.
And they literally just had a scene talking about what he's referencing (Roy Rogers).
Omg lol knew your guys were younger but not to recognize the cop as the dad from family matters just cements y’all young.
I think one of the reasons these held up so well was due to ensemble cast for both of these movies even though not all of the actors were known.
i think you mean #3, dh with a vengence, with samuel l jackson and jeremy irons?
One other noteworthy snippet re: Godunov is that while he was in the act of defecting, his wife - another dancer with the ballet troupe - was kept in a plane on the runway in New York City (at his insistence) while she was given time to decide to defect as well. She eventually decided to go back to Russia, and they divorced.
@@Divamarja_CAshe decided to return to USSR bc of her mom that stayed here. She couldn'd leave her alone.
watch this every christmas along with home alone 2, kinda similar movies in a weird way
I watched this movie for the first time a few weeks ago and it just made me laugh the whole time tbh. Bruce Willis with no shoes on is probably the funniest part
NEVER, EVER, take your shoes off unless you are about to crawl under your bed sheets. Even then, keep them withing reach.
Die Hard is just as much a Christmas movie as The Holiday
5:07--- ahh nope it doesn't. Cali is beautiful. You should visit sometime.
Married women are allowed today to keep their maiden name or after divorce, can keep their husbands name.
Cmon guys, you make us American singles look ignorant!
How stoned were they when they watched this? :D :D :D
My nephew loved North to Alaska, with John Wayne. It's not cowoys, it's gold in the wild North.
It is totally a Christmas movie, there is a Christmas party, Christmas santa joke, and they play Christmas music. Die Hard feels like a right of passage.
Lethal Weapon and Die Hard are my favorite Christmas movies.
Awesome reaction of my favorite Die Hard movie!!!!😊😊😊😊
classic movie! my favorite was the one with samuel l. jackson. i think it was the 3rd one, not sure. bruce willis is great in action movies, but i loved him in "death becomes her." completely different in that one.
Die Hard 2 also takes place at Christmas
Just saw it again in the theatre for the 35th anniversary. It really holds up! Did you guys see Violent Santa?
THE PHRASE YIPI KIYAY COMES FROM A ROY ROGERS COWBOY SONG.
Anyone notice gas was .74 cents a gallon in Los Angeles @ the 19:55 mark? In 1988?
Oregon is here.. hope you enjoyed the show..One of my favorite Christmas Movie.
Thank you for doing the classics!!
Yippie yi yo kayah was from the Roy Rogers Show, he was a cowboy actor in the 50s - that's why John calls himself Roy.
Love the MUFC gear!
@14:38 this movie was made 3 years before Jeffery Dahmer was caught.
[1980s] Hey, its that guy from _Moonlighting_ in a movie!
[2000s] Hey, it's Professor Snape!
[2020s] Hey, it's Jeffrey Dahmer!
😂 Couldn't have said better. Gen Zoomers are hilarious
HAPPY HOLIDAYS FELLAS! Especially Zuff. I just watched yalls reactions fuh the first time yesterday. Kung Fu Hustle. I really enjoyed myself & just HADTA watch yall react to Die Hard. Bein a nurse, I mos def noted that sum medical/mental condition possibly requiring medication is up with Zuff. I AM so proud that he is participating & especially bout yalls patient accepting reactions to his idiosyncracies, erratic movements, answers to his questions, etc. Maybe due to side effects of the 'meds'. Yeah, he took a minute to try to unnerstand this one. All yall are my HEROES! 😊At first I was hesitant bout commenting, but afta reading unknowing/unaware comments bout Zuff, I feel compelled to school folks. I could be wrong but Iown think so. Suma Zuff's zoned out observations & comments are hilarious! 😆KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! MOVIES ROCK!
The meme isn't that Die Hard is a Christmas movie, it is a Christmas movie. It's the people trying to go against the grain by claiming it isn't that's the meme.
Die Hard isn't A Christmas movie...
Die Hard is THE Christmas movie.
@@rsrt6910 You had me in the first half! In my notifications RUclips only listed the first half of your comment and I came here ready to rumble lol.
Correct, it's THE Christmas movie.
Bruce Willis ad libbed most of his shit talking in this movie.. 😂 he's one of my all time favorite actors. Been watching him since the early 80's in Moonlighting. Check out Blind Date to see a softer side of Bruce!
yippee ki yay is not from this movie. thats where its most known from now but was an old cowboy saying and use4d a lotin things like tv shows with roy rogers and songs by bing crosby. it goes back at least a hundred years. but without the motherfucker of course.
Die Hard is fantastic.
Before I start the video, just predicting the phrase as it’s not Xmas until Hans briber falls from nakatomi tower😮
Sooooo glad you enjoyed a classic! 1of you made a point about the later movies being like the furious movies, which is true. BUT y'all should watch Die Hard with a vengeance! Even though it's the 3rd movie it's truly a sequel to the 1st. It's a banger! 🔥
I love how these reactions r the first times I’m watching a lot of classics. I was never gonna sit and watch die hard on my own time 😂
The first 4 are excellent - I promise you!
