Thank you!!! This is a huge help! How do I decide what width is best for my project? I am working on a costume made of suede. The dress is full-length and with a full skirt.
Since the horsehair is straight but flexible, I realize it’s easy to sew it to the hem of the skirt; however, how do you work it in after flipping it to the backside of the garment so you don’t have buckling on the top edge of the horsehair? I’m trying to find out if the flexibility in it is enough to just absorb the difference because 2” up a circle skirt is a smaller edge than down 2” to the bottom of the hem.
Hi, i have a few questions :) 1: can you use horsehair on satin? i am sewing a "rokokoesh" gown for a show i am doing and want the bottom to be wide, i thought horsehair would be a great idea :), maybe double layerd? :) 2: Can i use the horsehair to give volume to a jersey fabric on the inside and also sew in some plastic boning in as well? :)
Ae you sewing the horsehair and chiffon right sides together creating a 1/4" seam allowance? Do you sew to the raw edge of the chiffon or do you hem it first?
So I just bought a dress with three layers of tulle as the skirt. Would I have to add horse hair to all of the layers or just one (the bottom) to give it more shape?
Great tutorial.. when I sew horse hair my needle sometimes get caught on fibres of horse hair braid and pushes through the garment hence deforming the braid. It happens regularly and so annoying. For that matter I am so unsuccessful in sewing them in to see through fabrics.. Any tips please?
I'm sure you've already finished your project by now, but in case you have another one! To make a skirt extra curly, you might try adding something called a "cone paneling technique" on top for the horsehair braid😄
When using horse hair to get q billow effectively do I need to double my skirt? I added to a skirt recently unmodified and it didn't really give it any volume.
How wide was the horsehair? It should automatically make it billow. I would try using wider horsehair. Also the lighter the fabric the more dramatic the hem will be & the more fabric there is it billows more. If there is not enough drape in your garment it will make it just pop out at the hem with no billow.
I have a lined dress I'd like to do this to. Would I apply this to the wrong side of the lining so it would make a sandwich? So it would be: dress skirt, horsehair braid, lining ? Thanks!
Question : when i try to to tuckin my horse hair it gets curves n also my fabric gets curvy on most of the places.kindly guide m stucked m heming a childs frock
Try not to pull it when you are sewing. It stretches because of how it is woven. I think you might be stretching it. Also try pinning it if you are not. Hope that helps. 🎀
I find the bound edges too bulk. It would have been flatter and cleaner to bind the first edge, leave it unsewn for half an inch and just tuck the last edge of braid underneath. JMPO
Yeah I feel like it gets super sharp & pokey if i don’t bind the end. It feels like a pin if u sit on it. I thought there was a pin stabbing me once & it was just the end of my horsehair popping through! Thanks for watching!
No explanation on the handling of the netting, you in fact fast forward the video through how you handle it. Not informative for anyone needing actual instructions on how to handle this
Such a great look! I love the shape it gives the skirt. And such an adorable dress you have on!💗
Thank you! Yes, I just love how it makes them hem look!

It’s really up to you. 2inches is a great width.
@@SewAnastasia Thank you!!!
Great tutorial! Thank you ❤
Very welcome 🤗 Thank you for watching.
Thank you. Very nice and you explained everything very well
Your very welcome!
Can you do this to a gathered skirt too? Is it necessary or only on circle skirts? Thanks for all your lessons!
I’ve wondered how to do this! I love this look!
Thank you! I just love horsehair too!
Hello 😊thank you for the video.
A quick question, how do I prevent the bubbles once I "tuck" in the horsehair?
Hummm can u send me a photo & I can better answer that. Not sure exactly what u mean.

Hi Kelly, From my experience it is enough to absorb into the circle. It can be a bit tricky so pinning it first can help.
Hi, i have a few questions :)

Can you use horsehair braid on brocade. Also should the skirt be cut in a circle or any skirt cut is acceptable?
That’s exactly what I need to make a skirt. I need a red shear fabrics with a wire edge just like the kind you used in blue. Where can I find that?
Hi, You can try amazon or ebay.
What kind of machine settings do I need to do this? What type of needle? Thanks!
Ae you sewing the horsehair and chiffon right sides together creating a 1/4" seam allowance? Do you sew to the raw edge of the chiffon or do you hem it first?
You can finish the edge of the fabric first before you sew the horsehair on.
Question : Is there a certain horsehair for a velvet trumpet bottom ? I really need it to bellow its a competition evening gown ...thank you
Hi, use the thickest one you can find
So I just bought a dress with three layers of tulle as the skirt. Would I have to add horse hair to all of the layers or just one (the bottom) to give it more shape?
You could add it to just the bottom. If you add it to all 3 it would look fab though.
What sewing machine do you use?
I usually sew on the designer Epic by Viking

Hummmm maybe try a different type of needle
Try a microtex needle.
@@bunnypep55 thank you
What types of skirts do you recommend the hose hair hem? I have a few evening pieces I think it will be right for
Anything with a full hem! Evening would be perfect! Thank you for watching Sew Anastasia & Happy Sewing!
Hi, I was wondering, is the top tension needs to be adjusted? Like your video, thanks.
Not at all, happy sewing! Thank you for watching.
Hi there, what is the impact of different size horse hairs
More stiffness or less stiffness at the bottom.
Can you double the horse hair to make the hem extra curly
You can double it but it’s not necessarily going to make it more curly
I'm sure you've already finished your project by now, but in case you have another one! To make a skirt extra curly, you might try adding something called a "cone paneling technique" on top for the horsehair braid😄

If yiou're doing a much smaller circle, how do you pull in the horsehair so it doesn't make the bottom of the skirt look blocky?
You might want to try a thick nylon thread like fishing line to sew into the hem. Horsehair really makes the hem stiff & pop out!
I have a lined dress I'd like to do this to. Would I apply this to the wrong side of the lining so it would make a sandwich? So it would be: dress skirt, horsehair braid, lining ? Thanks!
Correct!
Thank you💞

Very nice 👍🏻
Thank you 😊
How would this work with a pleated skirt? I'm trying to cosplay sailor scouts and don't understand my pattern instruction.
Yes it will but you will lose your pleats at the bottom.
Can I cut horsehair in half for a narrower width? Will it ruin the effect?
You will need to just buy narrower horsehair. They poly version will just fall apart of you cut it.
@@SewAnastasia thank you for quick response. I’ll do that. Love your channel.
Wouldn’t it have been better to wait and bias the ends at the end overlap?
You can do that too! Totally up to you.

can use this to stop dress from blowing up?
For that you use weights. Just sew a penny or dime coin into the hem.
Won’t an iron melt the horsehair?
It will not if you use the correct setting & use a pressing cloth.
How wide is this horse hair
You can buy it in different widths
