    I bought some ban roll, for trouser waistbands and I am amased at how quickly I learnt to make tiny hems. I gave home made handkerchieves to friends and they were surprised and wondered how the hem could be so small. Thank you.

    You saved my life! This hack is genius and you should get an award! I needed to hem a dress in a hurry and couldn’t find Ban-rol interfacing in my area and ordering it online wouldn’t arrive in time so I went to JoAnn’s and found the next best thing. Dritz iron on mending tape has the stiffness needed and can fray like the Ban-rol interfacing. I gave it a try and it worked like a charm. Thank you for posting this video. Best tutorial out there for rolled hems! I won’t do it any other way now. Bless you, sweet woman, bless you!

      And today, YOU are the lifesaver! At Joann's and they do not have ban-roll. They did not have the dritz you used, either, but based on your experience, I was able to choose something else to try.

    • @hobbyhopper3143
      @hobbyhopper3143 7 месяцев назад

      @@lupebutterfly9161 I don’t know where you are but I got a roll from the internet that is 1” wide. I believe the width matters bc I’m old and it’s easier to hold onto. Also I applied it in a succession of 12-15 inch strips (the hem was easily 70 inches around). I think I got mine from Amazon before I realized you can buy 5’ strips from Etsy. Please try it on a similar fabric before you commit to the target item; just get an eighth of a yard of something close. I wish you the best of luck. It worked great for me. ☺️

    I started sewing in the late 60's. We had a basic sewing machine, chalk, ruler and straight pins. That's about it. We made amazing clothes we thought lol. When the Pfaff 1222e came out with a built in walking foot in the 70's we thought we had it all. Us 3 girls plus mom fought over sewing machine time. Still sewing on same machine plus my Bernina 1230. Still making amazing clothes. You are never to old to learn new things.

      Absolutely, I can certainly do this demonstration. The Brother 1034D is a great serger but I have to check if it’s good for this kind of work. Thanks for the suggestion!

    I see other methods that require pressing, running a seam, folding near the seam, sewing, cutting... But your method is the very best. I did this two years ago, and it was easy! Then I lost track of this video. I'm so happy I found it again. You are an excellent seamstress and teacher. Thank you for posting.

    This is great! Do you have a tip on how to sew neckline with sheer fabric?

      Sorry for the delay, I answered from my phone and the computer ate the answer :-( I see now there is none.
      I have an article about necklines here www.ageberry.com/shaped-facing/ it applies well for sheer fabric too. Contact me please using the contact form on the site if necessary.

    Hi! Thanks for this video. I have a very sheer silk georgette summer slip dress that I'd like to hem. What advice do you have about the thread and the tensions to be used? I see that this is a couple years old so I hope you are able to respond.

    Great idea. Would this work if I was using a stretchy knit fabric. I need to make a tiny hem, which if more like an itty bitty overcast stitch of the raw end on the legs on a pair of pants and I've done a few other pars for my daughter and the fabric ends up very wavy . I've seen the stick on one that looks perfect, and washes off after you wet the, but I don't need it double sided and thought it might clog the needle up sewing directly on the dried glue. And tips!

      It might work on a moderately stretchy fabric. I doubt it would work on stretch fabric at all, I did not try but I suspect the hem will come out more like a lettuce hem, wavy. If you try let us know please?
