As I’m watching your demo on the pump filter I kept seeing the sponge filter going in the back. Got an idea of attaching the pump to a sponge filter. Technically should filter the water. I’ll give it a try.
Thank you! This series is helping me a lot. As you know I am just starting the process of setting up a fishroom. Slow going right now. I will be alone this weekend and Monday so maybe I will get a good chunk done.
Great one! Glad I finally found this vid - I am going try a modification that would change the reservoir to a 5 gallon bucket. Thanks for the inspiration 👍
Jason thanks for a closer view of a Dean style fry system. Those trays are way to pricy for my budget so I will try and find a better solution. With plastic sometimes it is better to melt through it than drill cut as it can breaks. The high speed of your dremel and the fine teeth of the diamond bit is likely melting more than cutting. As for "drilling" the holes for the bolts a soldering iron works great and faster than drilling with drill on most plastics. I already have an idea to make the tray from standard shoe box containers but want to try it before spreading it. Thanks again for such a close look at a great system.
Thank you so much. I’ve been trying to get these storage containers forever and couldn’t find them. And you did an amazing job showing your fry setup. Definitely have to try this. It will make my fish room 10x more efficient.
I’m hoping to get some insight here. Is it better to keep a trio of plecos in a 10g and pull the wigglers or is it better to keep a trio in a 20 and let the wigglers grow out there?
I built the same set up for my angel fish fries... it was working out great but now I am starting to loose fries.. lost a few ... what do you think I m doing wrong... plz help
Thanks for your great DYI videos you seem very practical in your approach to fish breeding, and very helpful. I've bred Guppies,Rams and Cardinia Shrimp and used many of your tips, one thing thats slightly confusing is most fish stores have very different demands in the types of fish they want.
Jason I raise my fry in tanks, tubs and we have 20 ponds going in front of my house but my question to you, can you put a fry grow up rack together, determine a price and put one or two complete packages except for the 20 gallon tanks of course and have complete set ups shipped? I have my son who can put what ever you send together but I like buying completebpackagesvwhen possible. I would by two or three from you otherwise I will just use my tubs and ponds. I think the fry racks would be great on my patio set up is all. Hopefully bi could get my outside room cleaned out for a additional fish room. This year.
Great play-by-play on this build. Now for my uninformed questions... Could you use screws at both ends if your container has no lip? Could you have the containers resting on something in the tank? ( like a flowerpot at each end supporting a sheet of plastic) Could you have fishing line running end to end of the tank supporting the containers?
I wished I seen this video before hand as I set up double the tanks (1 for breeders & 1 per fry per species & morphs) so two tanks per each. Once the fry gets old enough, for any that I do not sell prior, goes into the grow tubs when they are old enough to the point that they do not get eaten. But I am thinking by doing your technique a bit, I could expand into a few more species. I will play around with the idea a bit because there is a couple more I want to get including one you produce.
Is it possible to use the dollar tree/Wal-Mart plastic shoe boxes? If so they would only be $.94 to $1 each. They're opaque so maybe you wouldn't have to paint. How is the paint not toxic to the fish? I'm really leaning new Ideas to use for my fish room. Thanks for your help and time.
I've yet to find one that works good, never the right size and takes too much of the tank or just to hard to get it to hang on the tank and not just float. If you come up with something please let me know, thanks
Hey Jason, Love the video. I had so many darn questions when watching the video that Bentley did on Dean’s fry rack. I have two comments though. Why do you need such a large hole? I would think that using many small holes may be the best... Also I notice you kept saying I but didn’t Dean make one first and did basically the same thing? I thought you are just replicating what he did.\\ I am having trouble figuring out what you changed or modified and what you are using from Dean’s fry system. I purchased a bunch of 10 gal tanks to breed shrimp and I want to be able to keep some fish in them. I can’t drive so I figured the 4 10s would be easiest for others to help me pick up. I want to get 2 20s so bad for breeding but don’t know where I can put it right now :-(. Thanks for the video Jason it is really nice to finally know how to make it. Bentley talked about the fry system but didn’t give specifics with Dean so I had a really difficult time figuring out what I would need to do to build it. The plastic ziploc containers that you added to your pump... What is that?
Tell you the truth it's been so long that I can't remember what I've changed from what he did. I know for sure I used a different type of pump. Which hole are you talking about
Lol someone was just at my house filming and ask the same question. Favorite fish right now but changes monthly is gardneri killifish. Favorite to breed is guppy because it takes so little time and effort
The reason all of you are having problems with the paint pealing is because you should sand the surface you are painting before spraying use a 300 or 600 grit wet dry sand paper
Hey Jason hello from Australia. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Looks great, gotta love Dean hey. I am thinking of doing this but am wondering if it could be improved upon by using air lifts to pump water rather than a powerhead. That way it can just run off the main air system. Nice and cheap, easy to adjust flow, built in aeration. This is basically what I mean ruclips.net/video/Iuiy96hWwrk/видео.html. Also if you built it using the matten filter design it would provide for biological and mechanical filtration with the ability to quickly clean. Do you see any potential in this/ any issues?

Thanks I'm glad to see your back!
Your friend that does the painting I would love to use that Angel fish one as my sticker and my background love it

wow it looks like u have more than Dean now!!
His objectives are different than mine so he's focused on breeding his money making species
Where do you get the automatic drippers for the rainbow fry tanks. i didn't see a link for that in the link tree.
They are irrigation drippers from any home depot like store

I love those trays !
Where did you get the T valves, tubing, snd drip valves?
Very nice setup
Cool video and your fish!
Hi, What happens to the additional flow of water that is not utilized by drippers? Does it come back to the pump with back pressure?
How long can we keep the fry in those trays?
What about a batch of 300 or 400 angel fry or rams? Is that enough space for them?
I would split them as they grow. On angels when they start getting their normal shape I move them out
@@JadrenAquaticsThanks. It is my first time breeding angels and questions come out everyday.
Good work, simplest ideas are the best.
This is the exact video i've been looking for!
